A comprehensive Tier List for popular Builds for each Class in the newest Project Diablo 2 - updated for Season 14

Project Diablo 2 Build Tier List
Best Builds for Season 14

Last Update: September 28, 2026 [S14]

Introduction

Project Diablo 2 enters Season 14 with another round of balance changes, mechanical adjustments, and quality-of-life improvements that reshape how many builds perform across progression and endgame content. Some setups benefit from direct buffs, others from changes to skill behavior or itemization, and a few simply become more practical because long-standing limitations have been reduced.

PD2 aims to keep a very wide range of Skills and archetypes viable, but endgame performance still varies significantly between builds. Once you move beyond basic progression, factors such as Map clear speed, bossing potential, survivability, gear scaling, consistency, and access to key breakpoints or mechanics start to matter much more than how comfortable a build feels while leveling.

For that reason, this is not a pure leveling tier list. It is a hybrid ranking that considers both progression and endgame strength. The builds placed higher are generally those that either: transition smoothly from early progression into Mapping and endgame farming, or scale so strongly in high-tier content that a slower or more gear-dependent start is justified.

The builds included here are among the more effective and recognizable options for Mapping, bossing, farming efficiency, and general season progression. At the same time, the ranking takes into account how realistically each setup can reach its full potential during a fresh ladder, rather than judging every build only at maximum gear.
Each tier therefore reflects a combination of clear speed, survivability, gear requirements, scaling, consistency, and progression difficulty. The goal is to give a practical overview of which builds are most likely to remain effective throughout Season 14, from early progression to fully developed endgame setups.

It is important to note that Season 14 changes are still being revealed and tested, so this tier list should be treated as a living ranking rather than a final verdict. New balance adjustments, mechanical changes, and beta results may significantly affect individual builds, especially those that have recently received reworks or quality-of-life improvements. We will continue updating this tier list as new information, patch notes, and real Season 14 performance data become available.

Detailed explanation

S-Tier represents the builds that currently combine the highest level of Mapping efficiency, survivability, scaling, and overall consistency. These are the setups that can maintain very high clear speed without relying too heavily on favorable layouts or niche mechanics, and they generally continue to perform extremely well once pushed into high-end gear.

A large part of this tier is made up of builds that already proved themselves in previous seasons and remain extremely difficult to displace. Lightning Fury Amazon continues to excel because of its enormous area coverage and very strong scaling against dense packs, while Whirlwind Barbarian remains one of the most efficient melee builds thanks to the combination of mobility and constant physical Damage. Wake of Fire Assassin follows a similar philosophy from the caster side, covering large portions of the screen with very little downtime and maintaining excellent pace through Maps.

The strong presence of Necromancer in S-Tier is also notable. Poison Strike and Poison Nova approach endgame content very differently, but both take advantage of strong Poison scaling and excellent mobility. Poison Nova favors continuous movement and large-area clearing, while Poison Strike is more aggressive and closer to a melee playstyle. Bone Skills offer another strong alternative by relying on Magic Damage, which gives it a very different resistance profile and makes it more consistent across a wide variety of content.

The Sorceress also remains one of the strongest classes in the game at the top end. Nova has exceptional Mapping potential once the character reaches the required level of gear, particularly because Teleport allows it to maintain an extremely high tempo between packs. It is one of the more demanding S-Tier builds to fully optimize, but the payoff is equally high. Frozen Orb, on the other hand, offers a smoother and more forgiving approach while still delivering excellent coverage and reliable endgame performance.

Strafe Amazon is another build that benefits heavily from high-end physical scaling. Strong Weapon Damage, Attack Speed, Deadly Strike, and supporting auras can push its clear speed to very high levels, particularly on open Maps where its projectiles can take full advantage of their range. Compared to many caster builds, however, the quality of the Weapon and supporting gear has a much larger influence on how quickly the build reaches its full potential.

Within the A-Tier, most builds are only a small step behind the very top. Their Damage can often compete with S-Tier setups, but they tend to have a more noticeable weakness, whether that is heavier gear dependence, less consistent Map coverage, narrower damage types, or a slower transition into the endgame.

This is where builds such as Double Throw, Phoenix Strike, Rabies, Fire Claws, Dark Pact, and Chain Lightning fit particularly well. Each of them can become extremely powerful, but they usually demand more specific conditions than the builds above. Double Throw, for example, has excellent physical scaling and very high burst potential, but strong throwing weapons are critical to making the build feel complete. Phoenix Strike has outstanding elemental flexibility, but requires more active positioning and charge management than a simple ranged caster. Rabies can spread Damage extremely efficiently through dense packs, although its performance depends more heavily on monster density and Poison scaling.

Blessed Hammer is one of the most important builds to watch in Season 14. The change allowing Hammers to travel through terrain removes one of its most persistent practical weaknesses. In previous seasons, tight corridors, doorways, and environmental objects could cause a significant portion of your casts to disappear before completing their rotation. That did not reduce the theoretical Damage of the build, but it often reduced how much of that Damage actually reached enemies. With this limitation removed, Hammerdin should feel substantially more consistent in enclosed Maps and should waste far fewer casts during normal progression.

The Summoner Druid also has meaningful potential to improve in Season 14. Dire Wolves are planned to gain Physical Pierce from soft Skill Points, which gives Wolf-focused setups another scaling tool against resistant targets. This is especially relevant in endgame Mapping, where Physical Resistance can noticeably slow down summon-based builds. The Druid was already one of the safer and more comfortable progression characters, so additional Physical Pierce has the potential to improve its late-game ceiling without changing the fundamental playstyle.

Summon-based builds in general sit in an interesting position around A-Tier. They are usually safer and more forgiving than aggressive melee or close-range caster setups, but their maximum clear speed is often limited by minion targeting and movement. Valkyrie/Decoy Amazon and Summon Druid both benefit from excellent safety and smooth progression, while more direct builds can often clear faster once fully optimized.

The line between A-Tier and B-Tier is where differences in consistency become much more noticeable. Builds in B-Tier are still very capable of farming Maps and completing endgame content, but they tend to have one limitation that is difficult to completely remove with gear. Zeal, for example, has excellent sustain, strong single-target Damage, and very reliable defenses through Holy Shield, but it remains a short-range melee build. Even with high-end equipment, it cannot cover as much ground per attack as the strongest ranged or large-area setups.

A similar issue applies to several Assassin builds. Chain Lightning Sentry and Claws of Thunder are both strong enough to clear difficult content, but they generally require more effort to achieve the same level of efficiency as Wake of Fire or the strongest Martial Arts setups. Blade Fury is highly gear-dependent but can scale very well with the right Weapon, while Shockwave Bear offers excellent control and survivability at the cost of somewhat lower overall pace.

The B-Tier also contains several builds that are excellent in specific situations but less dominant as universal Mappers. Hydra Sorceress remains a very safe choice for bossing because much of its Damage can be dealt while repositioning, but that advantage matters less when clearing large Maps where immediate area coverage is more valuable. Skeleton Summoner follows a similar pattern: it is safe, steady, and reliable, but minion movement and target acquisition prevent it from matching the fastest builds in raw clear speed.

Holy Bolt is another build that deserves attention in Season 14 because of the changes to Fist of the Heavens. Holy Bolts generated by the Skill can now damage multiple enemies they pass through rather than stopping after the first target. This should noticeably improve its ability to clear dense packs and makes the interaction between FoH and Holy Bolt significantly more valuable in Mapping. It is a meaningful improvement, although the build still needs to prove how much that translates into overall endgame efficiency compared to the stronger options above.

Within the C-Tier, builds tend to demand more investment, stronger gear, or more favorable content before they can approach the efficiency of higher-tier options. These builds are generally more specialized, more dependent on favorable content, or simply slower in environments where area coverage and mobility matter most.

Leap Attack Barbarian is a good example. It can still produce strong hits and has excellent mobility built directly into its main Skill, but its pacing is less fluid than Whirlwind and its Damage delivery is more dependent on positioning. Magic Arrow and Fend can both be developed into effective physical Amazon setups, but they do not offer the same combination of range, coverage, and scaling that makes Lightning Fury or Strafe so efficient.

Several C-Tier builds are also much stronger against bosses than they are in regular Maps. Smite is the clearest example. Season 14 improves the Skill by allowing it to benefit from Life and Mana Steal, while also addressing some of its synchronization problems. Those changes significantly improve sustain and general usability, particularly during prolonged single-target fights. Smite is still fundamentally specialized around close-range single-target combat, however, so its strengths do not translate as well into large-scale Mapping.

Pure Revive, Clay Golem, Thorns, and other niche setups follow the same general pattern. They can absolutely complete endgame content with good gear and careful planning, but they either lack the clear speed, flexibility, or scaling efficiency of the builds placed higher.

The important distinction between the tiers is therefore not simple viability. Project Diablo 2 allows a very wide range of builds to function successfully, and player knowledge can easily compensate for some mechanical weaknesses. The higher tiers simply represent builds that reach strong results more consistently, with fewer compromises in clear speed, survivability, gearing, mobility, and endgame scaling.

Final Thoughts
