Summoner Druid Build Guide for PD2
Crush Maps with a Wolf-focused Summoner Druid built around Fenris and the new Season 14 Dire Wolf improvements.Summoner Druid Build
Last Update: September 24, 2026
Introduction
Summoner Druid commands an entire army of Ravens, Wolves, and Grizzlies, letting his minions overwhelm enemies while he focuses on positioning, support, and keeping the pack together. In Project Diablo 2, all major animal summons can fight at the same time, giving the Build excellent safety and making it easy to progress from early leveling into endgame Maps. Ravens provide reliable pressure, Wolves spread across larger packs, while Grizzlies deliver the heavy hits needed against tougher enemies and Bosses.
At higher investment, the Build can specialize in several directions. Fenris supports a more Wolf-focused, Mapping-oriented setup, while Denmother replaces Wolves with additional Grizzlies for a more concentrated playstyle. The traditional full zoo remains the most versatile option for general farming, combining high Summoning Skill Levels, aura support, and frequent repositioning. Season 14 should also make Wolf-heavy variants more attractive, as Dire Wolves gain Physical Pierce from soft points, further improving their endgame scaling.
Recommended Breakpoints
- Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): 39% is a comfortable baseline, while 56% should be treated as your target.
- Faster Cast Rate (FCR): 68% is a very comfortable target for smoother Gust, repositioning, and resummoning. 99% is optional and generally not worth sacrificing Summoning Skill Levels to reach
Stat Allocation
- Strength: Enough to meet gear attribute requirements
- Dexterity: Enough to meet gear attribute requirements
- Vitality: Invest all remaining Points
- Energy: Nothing
Your own attributes contribute very little to minion Damage, while additional Life greatly improves survivability when using Gust to reposition directly onto enemy packs. Strength and Dexterity should therefore only be increased when required by your equipment.
Pros
- Extremely safe progression from early game into Maps
- Different approaches to choose from
- Very strong against bosses once specialized
- Excellent battlefield coverage from multiple simultaneous summons
Cons
- Clear speed is generally lower than top-end caster or projectile Builds
- Minion AI can occasionally reduce Damage uptime against scattered or moving enemies

Skill Trees

The Summoner Druid is one of the easiest Builds to level directly through the Summoning tree, without requiring an early respec. Ravens handle the first levels very well, while Spirit Wolves and later Dire Wolves steadily expand your army. Once Dire Wolves become available, they should become the main focus of progression, especially in Season 14 where their scaling is further improved by the new Physical Pierce from soft Skill Levels.
Prioritize Dire Wolf, Raven, and Spirit Wolf, as these Skills form the core of the Build and directly support your Wolf Damage. Grizzly should be unlocked as soon as possible and eventually maxed, providing a durable frontline and strong single-target pressure against tougher enemies. After the main summons are completed, invest the remaining Points into Heart of Wolverine for additional Physical Damage and Attack Rating.
Take one Point each in Arctic Blast, Cyclone Armor, and Gust. Gust is especially important for Mapping, allowing you to reposition the entire pack and force your Wolves onto priority targets. The recommended setup leaves Heart of Wolverine at around 15 hard Points, but additional Points can be moved into it if you want to maximize offensive scaling, or into utility if you prefer more frequent repositioning.
Gear
Beast is one of the strongest endgame Weapons for the Build, as its Fanaticism Aura greatly improves the attack speed and overall performance of your physical summons. Heart of the Oak is the main alternative, offering additional Skill Levels, Faster Cast Rate, and Resistances, and becomes especially attractive if Fanaticism is already supplied by your Mercenary. For precasting, high-Skill options such as Athena's Wrath can also be kept on switch to summon your army at a higher Skill Level.
For the Shield, Spirit Ward is one of the premier endgame choices, combining up to +2 Class Skills with excellent blocking, Resistances, and Lesser Fade when struck. Lidless Wall offers a more straightforward offensive alternative with additional Skills and easier gearing, while Stormshield is extremely valuable for aggressive telestomping or Hardcore setups where Physical Damage Reduction is more important than maximum Damage.
Fenris is the defining Helmet for this version of the Build. It allows you to summon two additional Spirit Wolves, provides Druid Skills and bonuses to Spirit Wolf and Heart of Wolverine, and also reduces Enemy Physical Resistance. This makes it considerably more attractive than generic +Skill helmets for a Wolf-focused mapper. Spirit Keeper is a more defensive or party-oriented alternative, while Aldur's Stony Gaze remains a solid transitional choice.
For Body Armour, Enigma is the premium Mapping option. Although Druids already have access to Gust, Enigma's Blink lets the Fenris version maintain excellent mobility without investing heavily into Gust, freeing more Skill Points for Heart of Wolverine and the Summoning tree. This is one of the main reasons high-end Fenris setups favor Enigma. Chains of Honor and Arkaine's Valor are strong alternatives before that point.
Trang-Oul's Claws are an excellent Gloves choice when you need Faster Cast Rate and defensive utility. Occultist's or strong Rare/Crafted Gloves can also work well depending on your Resistances and breakpoint requirements.
For the Belt, Arachnid Mesh is the most natural offensive choice thanks to its Skill Level and Faster Cast Rate. Verdungo's Hearty Cord is a strong defensive alternative when you want additional Life and Physical Damage Reduction, particularly for more aggressive telestomping.
Boots are comparatively flexible. Waterwalk, Aldur's Advance, and strong Rare or Crafted Boots are all excellent depending on whether you need Life, Resistances, Faster Run/Walk, or Faster Hit Recovery.
For the Amulet, a strong +3 to Druid Summoning Skills Magic Amulet is one of the best pure Damage options and can be surprisingly affordable early on. Mara's Kaleidoscope provides a more balanced combination of Skills, Attributes, and Resistances, while high-end Rare or Crafted Amulets can eventually combine Skills with FCR and valuable defensive modifiers.
For Rings, Bul-Kathos' Wedding Band and Stone of Jordan are straightforward choices for pushing Skill Levels. Wisp Projector can also be useful depending on the rest of the setup, while high-quality Rare Rings are perfectly viable when additional FCR, Life, or Resistances are needed to complete the character.
Charms
For the Dire Wolf Summoner, Druid Summoning Grand Charms are the clear priority. Most of your Damage comes directly from Skill Levels, and additional Summoning Skills improve your Wolves, Grizzlies, Ravens, and Heart of Wolverine at the same time. A Druid Hellfire Torch and Annihilus should form the foundation of the inventory, followed by as many Summoning Skillers as you can comfortably fit. Current players consistently recommend completing the Skiller package before investing into more expensive luxury upgrades.
Use the remaining slots for Life, Resistances, and Faster Hit Recovery. Small Charms are especially useful for filling resistance gaps created by aggressive +Skill gear, while FHR Charms can help reach the desired breakpoint without sacrificing stronger equipment pieces.
Mercenary
An Act 1 Vigor Mercenary is one of the strongest partners for this version of Summon Druid. Vigor noticeably improves how quickly Wolves move between packs, while an Amplify Damage bow greatly increases the effectiveness of their Physical Damage. The preferred endgame combination is Wrath together with Templar's Might, giving the army access to Amplify Damage, Vigor, and Might while the Druid supplies Fanaticism through Beast. This exact setup continues to be recommended in newer Fenris discussions.
- Wrath in a fast Crossbow (Weapon)
- Andariel's Visage or another durable Mercenary Helmet (Helmet)
- Templar's Might (Armour)
- Lava Gout or durable IAS Gloves (Gloves)
- Razortail if additional Pierce is needed (Belt)
- Rare Boots with Resistances and defensive modifiers (Boots)
Final Thoughts
The Dire Wolf Summoner Druid combines excellent safety with strong physical summon Damage and very comfortable Mapping. Fenris, Heart of Wolverine, and aura support turn the Wolf pack into a fast-moving frontline that can clear most content while the Druid focuses on positioning and support.
With the Season 14 Physical Pierce changes, Dire Wolves should scale even better into endgame Maps. If you enjoy active summon gameplay built around repositioning, auras, and an aggressive pack of minions, this version offers a very satisfying alternative to the traditional full zoo setup.
