Best Starter Builds for Mirage League and Patch 3.28
Our top recommendations for Mirage League Starter buildsThe Best Starter Builds
for the Mirage League
[Patch 3.28]
The upcoming Mirage League contains massive changes and new additions to the core game. It focuses heavily on expanding and upgrading existing Atlas mechanics, while also providing new tools to experiment with. The recently reworked Breach mechanics are now core, allowing them to be further customised by Scarabs and the Atlas Passive Tree. The Mirage encounters provide new challenges and rewards, while also enhancing all other League mechanics existing on your Maps. The Atlas itself also changed a lot, further enriching your experience with the Endgame.
With so many changes to the Endgame systems, it is quite understandable that Skill and Ascendency balance for the League Start didn't change that much. There are not that many changes to the existing Skills and Classes, and most of them are quite light-handed. However, the big addition is the new Exceptional Support Gem system, which replaces the current Awakened Gems. The complete list of them or their accessibility is not yet known, although it seems like they are more than simple numerical upgrades. Some of them may also become Build-defining, such as the Hextoad Gem, which creates exploding Chaos Toads.
There are a lot of changes that carry very important ramifications for the Endgame, but the League Starting strategies remain mostly the same. You will still need to complete the Campaign and unlock all the Maps and additional objectives on the Atlas. With that in mind, we've compiled a list of the best PoE league starter builds for 3.28 that are reliable, tested, and efficient. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or just diving into Path of Exile, these builds will help you breeze through the early content and establish a strong foundation for the Mirage League.
Note: not all the builds are updated for Patch 3.28 but they all are in a state which will allow you to get started while we work on updating them

| Lacerate Gladiator | ||
The Lacerate Bleed Gladiator is one of the best Builds for a League start that once dominated the Starter Meta, and not much changed since then. The Bleeding Ailment is very powerful right from level 1 and can easily carry you through the Campaign and Atlas progression, but it slows down once you start approaching the Uber Pinnacle Bosses' territory, which shouldn't be a big concern for the League start. Thanks to the Gladiator Ascendency, you will easily cap your Lucky Block Chance for both Spells and Attacks, making you very durable for a low cost. This archetype is also very versatile. Although Lacerate of Haemorrhage is the best Skill in terms of Single-target Damage, you can very easily adjust the Build for other Skills, such as Slams or Bladestorm, for their AoE capabilities. You can also later transition to the Bleed Bow variant, which requires better Items to shine, but offers amazing Clear Speed capabilities. | Arakaali's Fang Necromancer
Most Summoners run into one of the two main problems: either your Minions die all the time, or you spend a lot of time constantly resummoning your temporary Minions. The Arakaali's Fang solves both problems, as your Minions are invulnerable to Damage and refresh automatically during the Mapping thanks to the Poison mechanics. Your Spiders tend to spread out, providing excellent AoE coverage, but your Damage against Bosses is also great once all Spiders focus on a single enemy. The Gear progression is also very satisfying, as you will easily notice every new Gear piece you acquire. The Spiders are very powerful right from the start, but you will have to complete the Campaign with the regular Raging Spirit or Absolution Necromancer. Thankfully, the Passive Tree is nearly identical for most Summoners, so you only need to adjust the Gem Setups. The late-game upgrades, such as the Squire or Dark Monarch Helmet, are expensive, but they also literally double your Damage. For the Guide please check: Arakaali's Fang Summoner Necromancer |

| Jiquani's Arc Inquisitor | ||
It is another Build that relies on a specific Unique Item, but can complete the Campaign and early Maps with the most basic Spellcaster Setup, such as adding Damage to your Spells through Energy Blade or Archmage. The Jiquani's Potential takes this concept further by adding even more Lightning Damage to your Spells based on your Intelligence. The Attribute-stacking Builds are expensive to min-max, but they do not require much to start. You only need 200 Intelligence to double the base Damage of your Arc, and you will obtain much more just from your Passive Tree alone. Thanks to the Inquisitor Ascendency, you will have solid Damage scaling through Critical Strikes and ignoring enemy Resistance. Stacking Strength and Intelligence also provides tons of maximum Life and Energy Shield, which you will quickly recover simultaneously, thanks to the Consecrated Ground surrounding you at all times. | Shockwave Cyclone Slayer
The Shockwave Cyclone Slayer is a great option for players who want simple and effective Builds that don't require any adjustment or tinkering with their setups - you will use the Shockwave as soon as you unlock it in Act 2, further streamlined by the Cyclone unlocked a few levels later. The gameplay combines bursty Shockwaves with consistent Cyclone for maximum enjoyment. Pure Physical Attacks are quite easy to scale with Critical Strikes, additional Impales, and general Gear upgrades. The Slayer Ascendency offers excellent AoE Coverage and great Sustain. The defensive capabilities are decent, but not great, especially if you decide to use the Abyssus Helmet for the massive Damage boost. It is a great package that offers a very easy start and powerful late-game possibilities. It is also a great framework to test the new Holy Skills. | Blade Vortex Poison Assassin
The recent Assassin changes made this Ascendency a very powerful pick for Poison Builds, as it grants an absurd amount of Damage for this archetype. It allows you to effectively scale your Poisons with Critical Strikes. They grant 50% extra Damage over time Multiplier for Ailments as a baseline, which you can increase by another 25% with a single Notable on the Passive Tree. The Toxic Delivery grants 20% More Damage on top of that, and greatly prolongs their Duration, which is another very important multiplier for Poisons. Thanks to the very cheap Obliteration Wand, you will gain tons of Damage but also skyrocket your Clear Speed with massive explosions. It is effectively a Melee Build, so you will also need to take care of your defense. The Assassin Ascendency only grants you immunity to Damaging Ailments and a bit of Recoup, but it pairs well with certain Unique Items for a satysfying results. It also makes you Immune to all Reflect modifiers, which can be a big advantage while unlocking the Atlas. Full Guide can be found here: Blade Vortex Poison Assassin |

| Shockwave Totem Hierophant | ||
The Spell Totem Archetype also thrives in the League Start environment, with the Shockwave Totem being one of the best of this kind. At first, it can be quite annoying due to the built-in Knockback, but it will completely change once you acquire the cheap Astral Projector Ring, instantly making it top tier Clearing Skill as your Totems will target Enemies from afar. The new Transfigured Shockwave Totem adds an interesting twist, but it doesn't seem to be worth it. The playstyle is extremely safe due to the Totem nature, further enhanced by Freeze, Knockback, and Taunt. The Damage is very easy to scale as well. It starts a bit slow, but ramps up very quickly with every minor upgrade. The Campaign progression is very easy and effortless, as this playstyle heavily promotes placing down Totems and running to your next objective while the Totems obliterate all nearby Enemies for you. | Kinetic Fusillade Elementalist
The Kinetic Fusillade is currently the top choice for the Wand Attack Skills, overthrowing the famous Kinetic Blast of Clustering, which can no longer ignore the downside of the Runegraft of Refraction. The Kinetic Fusillade is a very fast Attack that automatically aims at nearby targets and Chains through them, dealing lots of Damage. It requires you to stack a bit of Duration reduction to fire faster, which can be obtained via very cheap Unique Rings and an Amulet. The Elementalist Ascendency is slightly weaker now, but it is still very strong thanks to the powerful Exposure and Shock. The Buffs granted by your 4 Golems are still very good and consistent, although if you are unsure about this Ascendency any longer, you can very easily adapt this Build for the Deadeye or Warden Ascendencies. | Dominating Blow Guardian
The new set of Skills and buffs features a Holy theme. It suits the Dominating Blow Guardian perfectly. It is an active Summoner Build that creates an army of Minions by fighting monsters directly. The Dominating Blow can now create Minions on Hit, without relying on the on-kill mechanics. You will also have a completely new mechanic at your disposal, the Hallowing Flame. On top of that, the Sentinel of Radiance is no longer limited by Duration, making it a much more reliable source of Damage Mitigation. What was already a solid Build will now be an exceptionally good Starter that can scale very well into the Endgame. You will have an easy way to scale your Damage, a very good defense thanks to Block and the aforementioned Sentinel, and great mobility. Alternatively, you can later on opt for the Transfigured Dominating Blow of Inspiring, which focuses purely on your personal Damage and can reach over 4000% increased Damage through Minion scaling. Full Guide can be found here: Domination Blow Guardian |

| Impending Doom Poison Guardian | ||
This Build won't be available on day 1, as it requires a specific common Foulborn Helmet to function, and thus is not recommended for completely new players. Your start will be a bit slower, but in return, you will be able to crush the Endgame as soon as you acquire the Helmet. To get around the slower start, you can begin as a generic Summoner, such as the aforementioned Dominating Blow Guardian, and save up your Currency instead of making expensive upgrades for that temporary Build. The cornerstone of this Setup is the Foulborn Doedre's Scorn, which grants you a level 30 Impending Doom, which is almost 4 times as strong as its regular level 20 counterpart. It can easily be scaled by Poison, allowing you to invest heavily into defense through high Energy Shield, Block, and massive Recovery. Full Guide can be found here: Impending Doom Poison Guardian |

| Wintertide Brand Elementalist | ||
The Cold Damage over Time Archetype is famous for being a simple and solid League Starting option. The Wintertide Brand is arguably the strongest option among them, but it is very easy to swap your Gems around to focus on a different Skill if you prefer its style more, with the new Siphoning Trap of Pain being added to the pool. The reduced effectiveness of Golem Buffs now blurs the difference between Elementalist and Occultist Ascendency even more than before, but it barely affects the Build itself, and it often comes down to your preferences. This Build has a bit of everything: solid Damage against Bosses, decent Clear Speed, and good survivability. The Campaign progression is very easy, as this archetype has a lot of support on the Passive Tree now. The limiting factor is the limited growth options for your Damage against Uber Pinnacle Bosses.
