In Path of Exile 2, Spears play the role of melee and ranged martial weapons simultaneously. One can use them with Spear skills, many of which are either ranged or melee. Spears occupy only one hand slot, but using them with other martial weapons is prohibited - they can be combined with Shields, Foci, or, more commonly, Bucklers and Sceptres. They require a lot of Dexterity with a bit of Strength.
Spears are best suited for classes like Ranger, due to their synergy with projectile attacks, elemental damage, accuracy, and Dexterity. Regular Spears are some of the most popular weapons, but when it comes to the Unique ones, only a selected few are currently considered valuable; mostly due to their lack of damage, which is crucial on martial weapons.
Spears may possess very unique characteristics to them, and given the fact they occupy only one hand, they're often used in some specific builds. Tangletongue or Skysliver are especially popular since they're used in builds that don't need a high-DPS weapon, or introduce a merit that makes it easy to overlook this disadvantage.
