The Locus Mine Support is a bit of a special Gem for the Mine archetype that only works with Bows and Wands. Its Damage penalty is only 10%, which is massively better than the usual 50% compared to other Mine-converting Supports. It also Throws 3 Mines by default, so you don't have to use the Minefield Support. Those two properties make it roughly 3 times better than the other Mines, but there is also a catch. The Projectiles are fired at your direction instead, and Mines can't be activated if they are too close to you. For most Skills in the game, this playstyle is very unpractical and hard to enjoy, but the Power Siphon specifically targets the nearby Enemies, ignoring the Locus Mine penalty. With the Automation constantly triggering the Mines at any given time, the minimum range for activation is barely noticeable.
The Power Siphon is a Wand-specific Attack that is a fairly simple Projectile Attack without secondary effects, but it has many interesting properties. It has a built-in Culling Strike, automatically targets 7 nearby Enemies, benefits from the Spell Damage modifiers at 150% effectiveness, and gets a lot of extra Critical Strike Chance and Multiplier per Power Charge you have. It will be trivial to reach a 100% Critical Strike Chance with no additional investments.
This interaction of Skills makes up a great foundation for many possible Builds, although the Power Charge Stacking variant undoubtedly offers the most Damage and Speed possible for many reasons. It is a well-established Setup that uses certain Unique Items and Passives to raise your maximum Power Charge limit and apply it to the Frenzy Charges as well. The Mines are not affected by your Attack Speed, only the Mine Throwing Speed is important here. It is a great way to improve your Damage, but also to make the Build much more enjoyable to play. There are only a few sources of this modifier, the Charged Mines Support is the most impactful one as it grants 10% Throwing Speed per Frenzy Charge. The Attack Speed those Charges provide is not wasted either, as it will make your main Movement Skill much faster. Each Power Charge will also increase your Spell Damage, which applies to your Attacks at a 150% rate. It uses a lot of Unique Items, which makes it very easy to replicate. It is also very expensive, as the Power Charge Stacking archetype is widely recognized as the strongest way to scale your Damage and ultimate goal for many players.

You will Throw Mines that automatically Trigger and aim at nearby Enemies. Against Bosses use Bear Trap and Arcanist Brand that Casts Sniper Mark, Tornado, and Flame Wall for you. For mobility use Shield Charge and Frostblink.

PROS |
|
CONS |
|
For leveling you should use the Kinetic Bolt until you can start using the Power Siphon with Locus Mine. The Power Charge version requires End-game Unique Items, but you will have plenty of Notables on the Passive Tree to supplement your Damage. You can also use regular Trap or Mine Spells, as they are easier to set up during the campaign. You can check out our Shadow Leveling Guide using Traps in PoE to see more tips!
Bandits:
Kill all Bandits to get an additional Passive Tree Skill Point. Helping Alira to get the bonus Resistance is also a good option.
Leveling Skill Trees:
42 Points Passive Tree
Pick up increases to your Elemental and Mine Damage. A bit of maximum Life is also important.
76 Points Passive Tree
Take Wand and Accuracy Notables. Start patching towards Spell Suppression, Elemental Damage, and maximum Life Notables.
Final Skill Tree:
107 Points Final Passive Tree (Without Cluster and Unique Jewels)
121 Points Path of Building (PoB) link (Mageblood version)
121 Points Path of Building (PoB) link (Without Mageblood)
Ascendancy points:
Preferably in this order:
Pantheon:
Major God: Soul of Arakaali: 10% reduced Damage taken from Damage Over Time; +40% Chaos Resistance against Damage Over Time
Minor God: Soul of Shakari: 50% less Duration of Poisons on You, You cannot be Poisoned while there are at least 3 Poisons on you
[DPS] Power Siphon setup
Power Siphon - a Wand Attack that releases 7 Projectiles automatically targeting nearby Enemies.
Locus Mine Support - turns your Skill into a Mine, which triggers linked Skill for you. This Mine cannot activate while you are nearby.
Charged Mines Support - improves your Throwing Speed and Critical Strike Chance based on the amount of Power and Frenzy Charges you have.
Volatility Support - improves your maximum Damage and lowers your minimum Damage, which works very well with the Lightning Damage.
Added Lightning Damage Support - adds a large amount of Lightning Damage to your Attacks.
Power Charge on Critical Support - improves your Damage for each Power Charge you have. |
[DPS] Automation setup
Automation - automatically triggers linked Skills as soon as it is possible to do so.
Detonate Mines - triggers your Mines. The Power Siphon requires a target to activate, so you can prepare your Mines before the combat starts. |
[UTILITY] Aura setup | |
Wrath - an offensive Aura that grants a large amount of Lightning Damage for your Attacks.
Summon Skitterbots - summons helpful Minions that apply Chill and Shock to nearby Enemies, as well as boost your Damage with Mines.
Discipline - a defensive Aura that improves your Energy Shield. You can also use the Arctic Armour to reduce the incoming Physical and Fire Damage.
Enlighten Support - lowers the Mana Reservation cost of linked Auras.
Herald of Thunder - adds a decent amount of Lightning Damage to your Attacks. Use it only if you have a relevant Circle of Regret Ring. |
[UTILITY] Arcanist Brand setup
Arcanist Brand - summons a Brand that Casts all other linked Spells in quick succession.
Sniper's Mark - your main Curse Skill that greatly increases the Damage your Enemies take from Projectiles.
Tornado - creates a Tornado that duplicates a portion of your Projectile's Damage.
Flame Wall - Projectiles that pass through the flames will deal additional Fire Damage. |
[UTILITY] Movement setup
Shield Charge - the best Movement Skill for you is the Shield Charge. It can't cross terrain gaps but has no Cooldown.
Faster Attacks Support - makes your shield Charge faster to use. |
[UTILITY] Arrogance setup
Precision - improves your Accuracy and Critical Strike Chance. Try to keep it at the lowest level possible without falling below 100% Chance to Hit.
Clarity - improves your Mana Regeneration rate, here it is used only to enable the Watcher's Eye modifier. Keep it at level 1.
Arrogance Support - causes linked Auras to Reserve Life instead of Mana. |
[UTILITY] Other utility setups
Frostblink - a secondary Movement Skill used to cross terrain gaps or instantly dodge incoming attacks.
Bear Trap - Enemies caught by this Trap take more Damage from your Mines. |
|
This Setup heavily focuses on stacking Power Charges and extending their benefits. It uses mostly Unique Items, making it very easy to replicate. To get more Power Charges you will need a Corrupted Implicit on your Helmet and a Synthesised Implicit on the Ring, usually duplicated by the Kalandra's Touch. It will heavily rely on the Mageblood Belt to cover your defenses and Immunities. Those Items are very powerful for this Build, but also very expensive, so you can also use simple Rare Rings and Belt instead. On the few Rare Items at your disposal, you should look for maximum Life, Spell Suppression, Evasion, Energy Shield, and Accuracy. Thanks to the Spell Damage scaling you can use the Void Battery as your main Weapon, although a proper Rare Wand will be eventually better.
Stat priorities on items:
|
(Armour) Replica Hyrri's Ire - provides a great amount of Lightning Damage for your Attacks, as well as high Spell Suppression Chance and Evasion Rating.
(140-220)% increased Evasion Rating (12-18) to (231-347) Added Lightning Damage with Wand Attacks 25% increased Shock Duration on Enemies +(40-50) to Intelligence +30% chance to Suppress Spell Damage |
|
(Armour) Rare Armour - a more defensive approach is to use a Rare Armour with tons of Evasion and Energy Shield. You will also need Spell Suppression and a bit of Resistance. You can skip the Life modifiers to benefit from the Life Mastery.
Min. requirements: +2000 Evasion Rating +400 Energy Shield 20% chance to Suppress Spell Damage Optional affixes: Attributes Physical Damage taken as Elemental Chaos Resistance |
|
(Helmet) Willclash - you can use any Unique Helmet with Corrupted Implicit that grants you extra Power Charge, but the Willclash is the best option as it also grants you tons of Spell Block Chance and a bit of Damage.
(350-400)% increased Evasion and Energy Shield +5% Chance to Block Spell Damage per Power Charge (3-5)% increased Elemental Damage per Power charge Gain a Power Charge every Second if you haven't lost Power Charges Recently Lose all Power Charges when you Block Corrupted Implicit: +1 to Maximum Power Charges |

Min. requirements: +60 to maximum Life +1 to Maximum Power Charges Optional affixes: Chaos Resistance Chance to Suppress Spell Damage Accuracy Rating |
|

Min. requirements: Adds 1 to 200 Lightning Damage 80% increased Spell Damage Optional affixes: #% increased Mine Throwing Speed Attacks with this Weapon Penetrate #% Elemental Resistances #% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier |
|

|
(Belt) Mageblood - is arguably the best Belt in the game that makes your Magic Flasks always active, so you can enhance their effects by 95% without losing uptime. It provides tons of flexibility, but it is not necessary to enjoy this Build.

Min. requirements: +30 to maximum Life Optional affixes: Corrupted Blood cannot be inflicted on you Added Lightning Damage to Attacks Accuracy Attributes Resistances |
|
(Boots) Ralakesh's Impatience - your Shield removes the Power Charges upon reaching the limit, so you need those Boots to always have the maximum effect of your Charges.
+(15-25)% to Cold Resistance +(15-25)% to Chaos Resistance Count as having maximum number of Endurance Charges Count as having maximum number of Frenzy Charges Count as having maximum number of Power Charges |
|
(Gloves) Rare Gloves - look for maximum Life, Spell Suppression, Accuracy Rating, and Resistance. Use Eldritch Influence to inflict Lightning Exposure and improve your Throwing Speed. You can add a +1 Pierce limit for your Projectiles via Crafting Bench.
Min. requirements: +100 to maximum Life +400 to Accuracy Rating +10% chance to Suppress Spell Damage Optional affixes: Projectiles Pierce an additional Target Elemental or Chaos Resistance % increased Mine Throwing Speed Inflict Lightning Exposure on Hit |

+(16-24) to Dexterity and Intelligence (7-10)% increased Cooldown Recovery Rate of Travel Skills per Frenzy Charge (7-10)% increased Effect of Elusive on you per Power Charge (20-25)% chance to lose a Frenzy Charge when you use a Travel Skill (20-25)% chance to lose a Power Charge when you gain Elusive Your Maximum Frenzy Charges is equal to your Maximum Power Charges |
|
(Ring) Circle of Regret - the Synthesized Rings are usually the cheapest source of additional Power Charge Implicit out there, but it is still expensive. Look for one that affects the Herald of Thunder or Herald of Ice.
+(20-30) to Intelligence Adds 1 to (48-60) Lightning Damage +(20-30)% to Lightning Resistance Recommended modifiers: +1 to maximum Power Charge Herald of Thunder has (30-40)% increased Mana Reservation Efficiency Herald of Thunder has (40-60)% increased Buff Effect (40-60)% increased Lightning Damage while affected by Herald of Thunder |
|
(Ring) Rare Ring - the much cheaper option will be a simple Rare Ring with tons of maximum Life and Resistance. To improve your Damage look for added flat Lightning Damage, increased Elemental Damage with Attacks, or Critical Strike Multiplier. Use the Crafting Bench to lower the Mana Costs of your Skills. It is also possible to get an additional Power Charge on a Rare Ring, but it is very expensive.
Min. requirements: +100 to maximum Life +80% total Elemental or Chaos Resistance Optional affixes: Adds # Lightning Damage to Attacks % increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills Accuracy Attributes Non-Channelling Skills have -7 to Total Mana Cost +1 to maximum Power Charge |
|
(Jewel) Large Cluster Jewel - aim for a Jewel that grants you the Scintillating Idea and Storm Drinker Notables for the Lightning Penetration. The 3rd Notable is not as impactful, but it still should be present on the Jewel.
Recommended affixes: 1 Added Passive Skill is Disorienting Display 1 Added Passive Skill is Scintillating Idea 1 Added Passive Skill is Storm Drinker 1 Added Passive Skill is Doryani's Lesson 1 Added Passive Skill is Widespread Destruction |
|
(Jewel) Medium Cluster Jewel - the Guerilla Tactics Notable is another great source of Mine Throwing Speed. The Surprise Sabotage is also very good, as it grants you Elemental Penetration. You can use 2 such Jewels if you value Speed over survivability.
Recommended affixes: 1 Added Passive Skill is Guerilla Tactics 1 Added Passive Skill is Surprise Sabotage |
|
(Jewel) Impossible Escape - thanks to this Jewel you can pick up Notables in a radius of the Ghost Reaver Keystone and save up a few Passive Points.
Passive in Radius of Ghost Reaver can be Allocated without being connected to your tree
(Jewel) The Light of Meaning - all Passives Skills in large radius will also grant you Chaos Resistances. When socketed near the Infused Notable it grants you over 50% Chaos Resistance, which is a great value.
Passive Skills in Radius also grant 4% Chaos Resistance
(Jewel) Watcher's Eye - you will use a lot of Auras, so there are plenty of possible modifiers to pick from. If you use Unique Rings you will need the Clarity modifier to lower the Mana Cost of your Skills, which is necessary to lower the Reservation Cost of your Mines.
(4-6)% increased maximum Energy Shield (4-6)% increased maximum Life (4-6)% increased maximum Mana Recommended Aura modifiers: Non-Channelling Skills have -(10-5) to Total Mana Cost while affected by Clarity Damage Penetrates (10-15)% Lightning Resistance while affected by Wrath +(20-30)% to Critical Strike Multiplier while affected by Precision |

|
(Jewel) Forbidden Flesh&Flame - if you have a matching set you can get a single Ascendency Notable from any other Shadow's Ascendencies. The Assassin's Unstable Infusion can grant you additional Power Charge, but you can also opt for the Born in the Shadows for better survivability.
Allocates <Random Ascendancy Notable> if you have the matching modifier on Forbidden Flesh/Flame
(Flask) Bottled Faith - the Critical Strike Chance won't be necessary to cap the Critical Strike Chance, but it is still the best offensive Flask for this Build. The Consecrated Ground is also useful for Life Regeneration and Curse Effect Reduction.
(30-15)% reduced Duration Consecrated Ground created by this Flask has Tripled Radius Consecrated Ground created during Effect applies (7-10)% increased Damage taken to Enemies (100-150)% increased Critical Strike Chance against Enemies on Consecrated Ground during Effect |
|

|
|
