Build Overview
Poison Nova Necromancer is in a Tier on its own when it comes to clearing high monster density areas. It's simply godly if you want to do some serious Item grinding and melt packs of enemies all around your screen. This build revolves around Poison Nova and Corpse Explosion, two skills with wide AoE that deal three different types of damage: Physical, Poison, and Fire. Combined with Necromancer's Curses, Amplify Damage, and Conviction Aura from your Mercenary, you can completely ignore Monster immunities and just rush through zones like no other class in the game. If you end up getting Enigma for better mobility, you will get yourself the very best speed farming character in the game.
Our featured Poison Nova Necromancer guide is the most balanced end-game version, optimized for the best clear speed and decent Magic Find stat to boost your Loot yield - after all, that's what most Poison Nova Necromancers should aim for.

Pros | Cons |
GOD Tier when it comes to AoE and clear speed | Unable to kill end-game Bosses |
Can completely ignore monsters' immunities | Investment in gear is required to reach full potential |
The fast-paced playstyle makes it extremely enjoyable to play
Good team utility with various Curses and debuffs |
Skills
ATTRIBUTES |
SUMMONING TREE |
Even though you will find most of the skills allocated from this Tree, you are actually interested in just one of the Iron Golem. It's supposed to provide you with Insight Aura for increased Mana Regen and all the other Skills here are related to increasing his survivability and effectiveness Skills:
CURSES TREE |
This Tree contains various utility skills that can be used to debuff enemies with various effects. When playing solo, you are mainly going to use Amplify Damage or Lower Resists to increases your DPS but this can vary if you are playing in a team and other Curses may have better overall effectiveness Skills:
POISON AND BONE TREE |
This is the core Skill Tree for this Necromancer build. It contains your primary DPS Skills: Poison Nova and Corpse Explosion, and primary defensive buff: Bone Armor. Obviously, you are also going to allocate all of their synergy skills that boost their effectiveness Skills:
Items
You want to get as many Skill Levels (Necromancer/Poison and Bone Skills) as it's the best way to scale non-attack ability damage in Diablo 2 Resurrected. You should also aim to reach the 125% Faster Cast Rate breakpoint, even when it costs you some defenses - after all, it's a speed farming build and when you aren't dealing with the toughest Bosses, you should be fine. Other than that, look to increase your Maximum Life, Faster Hit Recovery is always good to have, Poison Skill Damage, Poison Damage Penetration (via Poison Rainbow Facets), and some extra Magic Find is always good to have
HELMETS |
Rare Circlet - aim to get +2 to Necromancer Skills, additional Faster Cast Rate, and possibly other valuable stats like Life, Mana, and extra Sockets for 5/5 Poison Rainbow Facets Jewels
Crown of Ages (Corona) - a great more-defensive option which grants +1 to all Skills, high FHR, Damage Reduction, Resistances, and has 1-2 Sockets which should be filled with 5/5 Poison Facets |
Harlequin Crest (Shako) - Harlequin Crest is a great pick for this slot, especially if you want some extra Magic Find without sacrificing offensive power. You'll get +2 to All Skills, +50% Magic Find, and a lot of Attributes from it |
WEAPONS |
Death's Web (Unearthed Wand) - the BiS weapon for this build. It grants up to +4 Poison and Bone Spells in total and reduces Enemy Poison Resistance by up to 50%. You also get Mana After each kill, allowing you to spam your Spells effortlessly, making it an irreplaceable piece in this build |
Spirit Weapon (Runeword) - a very solid Runeword for a Poison Necro (in both weapon and shield). It gives you everything you might need - Skill Levels, Faster Cast Rate, Life Leech, Bonus Mana, Extra Life, and Faster Hit Recovery. You should replace it eventually with class-specific Necro Wands at some point, but initially, Spirit should be much easier to obtain early in the Ladder |
Heart of the Oak (Runeword) - another extremely powerful Runeword for caster builds. It grants a whopping +3 to All Skill and 40% FCR which makes it much easier to reach the desired breakpoints. You also get extra Mana, Resistances and other valuable bonuses |
White (Runeword) - should be considered a budget alternative for the previously mentioned Weapons. If you socket your Dol and Io Runes in a base white Wand with +2/3 to Poison Nova it's a very viable weapon for this build |
SHIELDS | |
Trang'Oul's Wings (Cantor Trophy) - a very strong shield for this build with a bunch of defensive stats and attributes. Sadly, it doesn't grant any FCR, but if you are using any of the other Trang'Oul's pieces, you will benefit from it greatly |
Set bonuses:
Spirit Shield (Runeword) - This Runeword offers a great balance of offensive and defensive power. You will need a 4 open socket Monarch for it, though. |
Homunculus (Hierophant Trophy) - defensively, a very strong off-hand item that boosts your Chance of Blocking and increases your Block Rate. Also grants tons of Resistances and Mana Regen, while increasing the level of your Necromancer Skills and Curses |
WEAPON SWAP | |
Call to Arms (Runeword) - if you are playing solo or just don't have a Barbarian on your team, it's great to have Call to Arms in your Weapon Swap for the powerful Warcries that boost your stats. Just equip it with a random off-hand that boosts your FCR and all Skill levels by 2 to get the best out of it (Spirit Runeword for example) |
AMULETS |
Rare/Magic Amulet with + Necromancer/Poison and Bone Spells with additional stats like Life/MF/FCR is simply perfect for this build. But as always, the better the price the more expensive or harder to find it gets
Mara's Kaleidoscope - This powerful Amulet will give you +2 to all Skills and a lot of Resistances. It's expensive but worth its price |
ARMORS |
Bramble (Runeword) - one of the best armors in terms of raw DPS. Not using Enigma though may hurt your mobility unless you find a Crafted Amulet or Diadem with Teleport Charges |
Skin of the Vipermagi (Serpentskin Armor) - one of the best caster armors in Diablo 2 Resurrected which grants bonus to all Skills and Faster Cast Rate which is quite unique in this slot |
[BIS] Enigma (Runeword) - our top recommendation for this slot. It takes your mobility to a completely different level, adds 2 bonus Skills and boosts your Magic Find stat - simply a piece impossible to replace |
RINGS |
Magic Crafted Rings with Faster Cast Rate, Resistances, Magic Find, and Bonuses to Life is what you should be looking for early
Raven Frost - You should get this Ring as it's one of just a few items in the game that give Freeze Immunity |
The Stone of Jordan - a great late-game ring that will make you more powerful in almost all respects by increasing the level of all your Skills and Maximum Mana |
GLOVES |
[BIS] Trang'Ouls Claws (Heavy Bracers) - from these, you will get a 20% Increased Faster Cast Rate, a nice boost to Poison Skill Damage, and extra Curse levels. Simply no other pair in the game gets close to it
BOOTS |
[BIS] War Traveler (Battle Boots) - the top recommendation for the Boosts slot. War Travelers offer the highest Magic Find stat you can find on Boots, and extra Attributes, Faster Run/Walk Speed, and prevent Stamina drain |
Aldur's Advance (Battle Boots) - a great pair in terms of defenses. It offers very high bonus Life, Attributes, and Fire Resistance, so you will surely be able to add other stats on your Charms and other gear |
BELTS |
Arachnid Mesh (Spiderweb Sash) - This belt is ideal for a summon Necromancer as it gives +1 to All Skills, which is its most important stat by far. |
Trang'Oul's Girth (Troll Belt) - a very strong Belt, which is highly recommended for the Freeze immunity (allows you to get an extra +to Skills Ring in place of Raven Frost) and also very strong defensive bonuses which include extra Life and Resistances |
Set bonuses:
CHARMS |
MERCENARY |
We recommend picking up Act 2 Might Mercenary which offers the highest DPS for a Merc and helps you deal with Poison Resistant enemies quickly. You should equip him with Infinity as soon as you can afford, for its' Conviction Aura, which boosts your overall DPS output significantly (mainly your Merc's and Corpse Explosion, but the increase is truly significant)
