Build Overview

Poison Nova Necromancer is in a Tier on its own when it comes to clearing high monster density areas. It's simply godly if you want to do some serious Item grinding and melt packs of enemies all around your screen. This build revolves around Poison Nova and Corpse Explosion, two skills with wide AoE that deal three different types of damage: Physical, Poison, and Fire. Combined with Necromancer's Curses, Amplify Damage, and Conviction Aura from your Mercenary, you can completely ignore Monster immunities and just rush through zones like no other class in the game. If you end up getting Enigma for better mobility, you will get yourself the very best speed farming character in the game.

Our featured Poison Nova Necromancer guide is the most balanced end-game version, optimized for the best clear speed and decent Magic Find stat to boost your Loot yield - after all, that's what most Poison Nova Necromancers should aim for.

You can also check our other  Diablo 2 Resurrected Builds

 Pros  Cons
GOD Tier when it comes to AoE and clear speed  Unable to kill end-game Bosses
Can completely ignore monsters' immunities  Investment in gear is required to reach full potential
The fast-paced playstyle makes it extremely enjoyable to play
Good team utility with various Curses and debuffs

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - just enough for all the gear you plan to use. You should have all the Strength required from Enigma (if you plan to use it) so if you use an alternative set of gear with STR so that you can equip it, you should be fine without any additional points here
  2. Dexterity - same as Strength - you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements
  3. Vitality - you should put all your remaining points here - this is your primary stat that boosts your survivability
  4. Energy - do not add any points into Energy. You should have enough Mana from Death's Web and Insight Aura on your Iron Golem
SUMMONING TREE

Even though you will find most of the skills allocated from this Tree, you are actually interested in just one of the Iron Golem. It's supposed to provide you with Insight Aura for increased Mana Regen and all the other Skills here are related to increasing his survivability and effectiveness

Skills:

  1. Raise Skeleton [1/20] - allows you to summon Skeletons to fight for you, however, you are going to treat is as a prerequisite only
  2. Skeleton Mastery [1/20] - increases the life of your revived minions. If you are going to use those to tank some of the damage, it's worth spending 1 point here
  3. Clay Golem [1/20] - prerequisite only
  4. Golem Mastery [1/20] - boosts the Life and Speed of your Golems. It's a must-have skill that boosts your Iron Golem's survivability
  5. Summon Resist [1/20] - just like above. Passively increases Resistances of your summons, making them much more durable, so that you don't risk losing your Insight that often if your Iron Golem dies
  6. Raise Skeletal Mage [1/20] - prerequisite only
  7. Summon Resist [1/20] - Increases the Resists of your Summoned Minions. This makes your summons rare much better against elemental attacks, traps, or even simple fires.
  8. Blood Golem [1/20] - prerequisite only
  9. Iron Golem [1/20] - creates a Golem from an item on the ground, which in this case should be Insight Runeword. It will then grant you the Meditation Aura for an increased Mana Regeneration Rate. Make sure to summon your Golem with Insight after you have obtained all the corresponding Passives and a bunch of extra Skill levels from your gear, or you may end up losing the Item if the Golem dies
  10. Revive [1/20] - resurrects slain monsters to fight for you. Revived monsters are a great way to stop incoming enemies, projectiles, and generally take some of the damage

CURSES TREE

This Tree contains various utility skills that can be used to debuff enemies with various effects. When playing solo, you are mainly going to use Amplify Damage or Lower Resists to increases your DPS but this can vary if you are playing in a team and other Curses may have better overall effectiveness

Skills:

  1. Amplify Damage [1/20] - lowers the enemies' Resistance to physical damage greatly boosting your DPS output with Corpse Explosion
  2. Weaken [1/20] - Prerequisite. Decreases the damage dealt by enemies caught inside the curse. You can use this curse to increase your survivability, but relying on the Bone Prison is a much safer option
  3. Iron Maiden [1/20] - A curse that makes enemies receive whatever pain they inflict upon others. At level 1, this Curse reflects 200% of damage dealt back to the affected enemy. This is especially effective in the early game, so you should invest a point in it early. Later on, just treat is as a prerequisite to other skills only
  4. Terror [1/20] - Causes monsters to run away in fear. Monsters run in the opposite direction of where Terror was cast. This can help you escape difficult situations but in most cases it's just a prerequisite to Decrepify and Lower Resist
  5. Decrepify [1/20] - A crippling curse that halves enemy units' speed, damage, and physical resistances. Decrepify will help you to neutralize and effectively deal with though enemies by combining the effects of Weaken and Amplify Damage
  6. Lower Resist [1/20] - reduces enemies' resistance that boots the Poison Damage of your Poison Nova and Fire portion of Corpse Explosion's damage, making it the primary Curse for this build
POISON AND BONE TREE

This is the core Skill Tree for this Necromancer build. It contains your primary DPS Skills: Poison Nova and Corpse Explosion, and primary defensive buff: Bone Armor. Obviously, you are also going to allocate all of their synergy skills that boost their effectiveness

Skills:

  1. Teeth [1/20] - Prerequisite. It is a spell that fires several projectiles that fly at enemies dealing magic damage. You can use it during your first few levels, but as soon as you get Corpse Explosions, it simply deals a lot more damage
  2. Bone Armor [1/20] - the core defensive skill on the Necromancer. It creates a shield around your character that absorbs incoming damage. Just spend one point here, which should be later increased by all your gear
  3. Corpse Explosion [20/20] - one of the core DPS spells used in this build which causes corpses to explode dealing massive Fire/Physical Damage to enemies around it. It's an amazing skill for leveling, one of the main damage-dealing abilities in this build
  4. Bone Wall [1/20] - Prerequisite. Used only to increases the Life absorbed by Bone Armor
  5. Bone Spear [1/20] - Prerequisite only
  6. Bone Prison [1/20] - Bone Armor's synergy skill that increases the amount of Life absorbed by Bone Armor, so make sure to allocate 1 point here
  7. Poison Dagger [20/20] - a must-have prerequisite skill that also boosts the damage of your Poison Nova
  8. Poison Explosion [20/20] - just like Poison Dagger, it's a prerequisite to Poison Nova and its' synergy skill
  9. Poison Nova [20/20] - the core ability used in this build. It fires a ring of poison that expands in all directions obliterating enemies all over your screen. It's one of the best  AoE farming skills in the entire Diablo 2 Resurrected

Items

You want to get as many Skill Levels (Necromancer/Poison and Bone Skills) as it's the best way to scale non-attack ability damage in Diablo 2 Resurrected. You should also aim to reach the 125% Faster Cast Rate breakpoint, even when it costs you some defenses - after all, it's a speed farming build and when you aren't dealing with the toughest Bosses, you should be fine. Other than that, look to increase your Maximum Life, Faster Hit Recovery is always good to have, Poison Skill Damage, Poison Damage Penetration (via Poison Rainbow Facets), and some extra Magic Find is always good to have

MERCENARY

We recommend picking up Act 2 Might Mercenary which offers the highest DPS for a Merc and helps you deal with Poison Resistant enemies quickly. You should equip him with Infinity as soon as you can afford, for its' Conviction Aura, which boosts your overall DPS output significantly (mainly your Merc's and Corpse Explosion, but the increase is truly significant)

  1. Infinity Rune Word in Ethereal Elite Polearm - This provides the Conviction Aura that increases your Corpse Explosion's and Mercenary's DPS significantly. It also has very high base damage on its own
  2. Fortitude Rune Word in Armor - the best armor for your Mercenary defense-wise
  3. Vampire Gaze or Andariel's Visage for extra Life Steal and boosting his survivability
