Build Overview

Poison Javazon is a very powerful early-to-mid-game Build that has close to no competition up to level ~50, however, it falls a bit out of favor in the late game. This happens for two reasons; 1 - Poison and Plague Javelins are very powerful and scale very well with additional Skill Points, which makes them perfect for leveling, but they deal mostly Poison Damage and thus have problems with enemies immune to it. 2 - They only synergize with each other, and thus builds that use them don't transition too well into the end-game, as they simply lack synergies (in the eyes of the community, at least).

The featured build fixes Poison Javazon's late-game problems by mixing it up with Valkyrie. As a result, it has a powerful personal tank that soaks up most of the incoming damage and gives Plague Jav's poison enough time to melt down the opposition. Our version of Poison Javazon is still a great starter build; we've just added a late-game component to it, for those of you who like the playstyle and want to play it beyond level ~50 or so.

 Pros  Cons
Great Starter Build   Relies mostly on one type of damage - Poison, so enemies resistant to it can cause problems
Relatively High Damage Output, even without high-end gear   Amazon's Poison Skills lack synergies which makes them scale into the late game a bit worse than other similar skills
Can easily be run on a tight budget   You will need a lot of +Skills to see this build's full end-game potential

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - All you want, in terms of Strength, is enough of it to equip everything you will want to use on your character.
  2. Dexterity - Same as Strength - you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements... unless you're going for max block; then, spend enough points here to achieve it.
  3. Vitality - You should put all your remaining points here - main stat.
  4. Energy - Adding points to Energy is an extreme waste - don't do it.
JAVELIN AND SPEAR SKILLS

This is the core Skill Tree of this Build. It provides you with your main offensive ability - Plague Javelin that deals solid initial damage and finishes off enemies with an extremely powerful poison effect.

Skills:

  1. Jab [1/20] - A skill that makes you perform a rapid burst of stabbing attacks with a Javelin or a Spear. Jab requires a lot of Attack Rating to work well, but you want to invest some points into Penetrate anyway. With some soft points from gear, this should become a potent backup melee skill.
  2. Poison Javelin [20/20] - A thrown Javelin that deals poison damage and leaves a trail of poison clouds behind it. This is your main synergy skill (it increases Plague Javelin's poison Damage by 12% per level). You will also use it as your main offensive skill before you unlock Plague Javelin.
  3. Lightning Bolt [1/20] - Prerequisite. Leaves a trail of lightning and does lightning damage.
  4. Plague Javelin [20/20] - A thrown Javelin that deals poison damage and leaves a trail of poison clouds behind it. This one also explodes in a vast cloud of poison after it connects with its Target. It has 4 seconds Cooldown (use the downtime to run around or Jab some closeby monsters). Unlike Poison Javelin, Plague Javelin also deals increased Physical Damage, so it benefits more from Critical Strike. This is your main offensive ability - you should max it out.
  5. Lightning Fury [X/20] - Optional. Creates a powerful lightning bolt that releases multiple subsequent bolts of lightning from the target it impacts. Lightning Fury has a very strong synergy with Pierce - the second release of bolts can occur if another monster or wall lies behind the original target. Maxing this out in a Poison Javazon Build is an old-school way of doing things; if you like the skill, you can do it - just remember that Lightning Fury is much less effective without maxed synergies (thus, we'd recommend investing in Valkyrie and its synergies instead of using it). You could also spend 1 point on this and use it as backup (Javelin thrown by Lightning Fury will always hit its target, so it's very reliable).

PASSIVE AND MAGIC SKILLS

This skill tree offers great utility skills - both passive and active ones. For this build, we take full advantage of it as we have a lot of spare points (you only need 42 points for the recommended Javelin and Spear Skills).

Skills:

  1. Critical Strike [5/20] - Grants a chance to do double physical damage with your attacks. A large portion of your Damage comes from Poison, moreover, Critical Strike suffers from heavy diminishing returns, so just a few points spent here are enough. You should unlock this at the very beginning.
  2. Inner Sight [1/20] - Prerequisite. Illuminates monsters and decreases their ability to defend themselves.
  3. Dodge [1/20] - Grants a chance to move out of the way of a melee attack while standing still. Dodge is great when you get surrounded by monsters. It suffers from diminishing returns, so spending 1 point on it is enough (on level 4, it grants 34% Dodge; on level 20, it grants only 56%...).
  4. Avoid [1/20] - Grants a chance to move out of the way of a missile attack while standing still. Same idea as with Dodge - spend 1 point here, no more, because of diminishing returns.
  5. Slow Missiles [1/20] - Prerequisite. Slows the missiles of nearby enemies.
  6. Penetrate [X/20] - Increases Attack Rating. Unlike the previous passives, Penetrate does not suffer from diminishing returns (it grants 10% to Attack Rating for every skill point, except the first one which gives 35%). Penetrate synergizes with Valkyrie by giving it a +40 Attack Rating per level; consider spending some additional points here if you feel like your Valk is not effective enough.
  7. Evade [1/20] - Grants a chance to escape any attack while moving. Same idea as earlier - invest 1 point for a nice passive boost and avoid spending more because of diminishing returns.
  8. Decoy [X/20] - Creates a duplicate image to distract enemies. Every point invested in this skill increases Valkyrie's life by 20%, so you should consider investing some of your remaining points in it.
  9. Pierce [X/20] - A chance that your missile will continue through its victim. This gives you a solid chance of hitting multiple enemies with a single javelin, which is nice. You should spend enough points here to achieve 100% Pierce Chance (the exact number will depend on your gear).
  10. Valkyrie [20/20] - Summons a powerful Valkyrie warrior to fight by your side. Boosting up your Valk is a good and simple way to invest your remaining points - if you decide to do so, max it out and dump some points in its synergies - Penetrate and Decoy.
BOW AND CROSSBOW SKILLS

This build focuses on Javelins, so we skip this entire skill tree.

  1. none

Items

For this Poison Javazon Build, you want to get as many Skill levels (Amazon/Javelin and Spear Skills) as possible to increase the build's overall power level. Increased Attack Speed is not that important as Plague Javelin has a cooldown, however, it will allow you to attack faster with your other Skills (just remember to check your breakpoints or you might over/underinvest in it). Resistances are also important, but they should never come before the offensive power. Defensive stats, like faster hit recovery and life leech/life on each kill, are a nice addition but they should come naturally - don't choose gear because it has these on it.

WEAPONS

[Starter] Magic Javelins with +3 to Javelin and Spear Skills or Rare Javelins with +2 to Amazon Skills - These are not that hard to get and they offer a very solid early power boost. You can get Increased Attack Speed on these as well. If you're extremely lucky, you can even find a Javelin that gives +6 to Javelin and Spear Skills (but a Jav like that is worth more than most end-game items available in Diablo 2 Resurrected).

Also, it replenishes itself, so it's less problematic to use than other Javelins.

If you prefer extra mobility over extra damage, consider Enigma over Bramble (we'd go for Bramble, though). CHARMS

  1. Annihilus - This fabled Charm boosts your Skills, Stats, and Resistances. It's the best Unique Small Charm, and it's limited to just 1 in your equipment.
  2. Gheed's Fortune - The secret to Gheed's wealth and prosperity. Pretty much a must-have if you're after the best available charms. It adds 80-160% extra gold from monsters, reduces vendor prices by up to 15%, and gives up to 40% better magic find.
  3. Hellfire Torch - The BiS Unique Large Charm that increases your Vitality, Skills, and more. You should, of course, go for one that gives +1 to Amazon Skills.
  4. Grand Charms - These should have +Javelin and Spear Skills (mandatory) and +Life/+Faster Run/Walk Speed.
  5. Small Charms - With these, you should get your desired Resistances, bonuses to Life, or bonuses to Magic Find - whatever suits your needs, basically.

MERCENARY

We recommend picking up Act 2 Defiance Mercenary for extra damage mitigation bonuses. He should be equipped with:

  1. Infinity Rune Word in Ethereal Spear - This provides Conviction Aura, which reduces the defenses and resistances of nearby enemies and offers very high bonus damage. A top (and expensive) choice for any Act2 merc build. It will greatly increase your own Damage, as lowering enemy resistances is very beneficial for DPS.
  2. Fortitude Rune Word in Armor - This will ensure that your merc doesn't die (it will make him almost immortal).
  3. Andariel's Visage - An extremely solid and versatile headgear that will make your merc better in all respects.
