Lightning Sorceress Magic Find Build for Diablo 2 Resurrected

Magic Find build for the Lightning Sorceress Class in D2R

Lightning Sorceress
Magic Finding Build

For Diablo 2 Resurrected

Build Overview

Lightning Spells are among the most versatile and devastating abilities in the entire game. With proper gear, a Sorceress that utilizes them can breeze through any content Diablo 2 Resurrected has to offer, even if it features hordes of lightning-immune mobs (again, with proper gear). High-health enemies and hordes of monsters are of no concern for her, as she can easily dodge them with teleport and bury them under a barrage of Lightning bolts. Because of this, a Lightning Sorc is a clear candidate for a top-level end-game Magic Finding build.

The following Lightning Sorceress Magic Finding build was designed for efficient farming in any of the level 85 areas on high /Players difficulty settings. It is capable of dealing extremely high single-target damage that allows it to quickly defeat Bosses and Uniques, and its AoE is potent enough to obliterate packs of regular monsters in just a few casts. While the build's overall Magic Find is relatively low in comparison to some other MF builds, it more than makes up for it with its high dynamics.

 Pros  Cons
Efficiently breaks Lightning immunities when fully geared - can Magic Find anywhere   High RNG when it comes to DPS because of the nature of Lightning Spells
Great DPS and clear speeds   Not viable for early ladder/leveling - the build relies on high-end gear that is very expensive
Extremely high mobility   Sacrifices some of its offensive power to stack more Magic Find

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - All you want, in terms of Strength, is enough of it to equip everything you will want to use on your character.
  2. Dexterity - Same as with Strength; you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements.
  3. Vitality - You should put all your remaining points here - main stat.
  4. Energy - Adding points to Energy is an extreme waste - don't do it.
LIGHTNING SPELLS

This is the core Skill Tree for our Magic Finding Lightning Sorceress Build and you're going to spend almost all of your points on it. You will want to take most of the skills from it, with the exception of Energy Shield (this build is not tailored for it) and Thunder Storm (this one is optional and you may pick it up if you really want it). As for Teleport, you can skip it if you're going to use the Enigma.

Skills:

  1. Charged Bolt [20/20] - Creates multiple bolts of electricity that electrocute anything they touch. We max this one out for its synergies.
  2. Telekinesis [1/20] - Prerequisite.
  3. Static Field [1/20] - All enemies in a given radius lose 1/4 of their health. Every point invested into Static Field increases its area of influence. This skill is extremely helpful as it effectively deals 25% of enemies' health as damage to them. Use it for softening tougher enemies.
  4. Lightning [20/20] - Creates a lightning bolt that travels in a straight line and pierces through monsters. This should be your spell of choice for dealing with Bosses and other high-health enemies. Its damage spread is massive, but it can potentially deal astronomic amounts of damage in a single hit.
  5. Nova [20/20] - Creates an expanding ring of electricity that damages any monster it touches. It can be useful when you get surrounded by enemies, but then it's much safer to teleport out and use Chain Lightning to deal with them. In this build, Nova is mainly taken for its synergy.
  6. Chain Lightning [20/20] - Creates a bolt of lightning that jumps through multiple targets. While this deals less damage than the regular Lightning, the fact that it can hit multiple enemies makes it extremely powerful against big packs of enemies that are spread around your screen. Also, this is a Lightning synergy spell.
  7. Teleport [1/20] - The best mobility Spell in Diablo 2 Resurrected. It instantly moves you to a destination within your line of sight.
  8. Lightning Mastery [20/20] - A Passive Skill that increases the damage of your Lightning-based Spells. Maxing this out is going to increase your DPS significantly
COLD SPELLS

As far as Cold Spells go, we just need a single Skill that will boost our defense a bit.

Skills:

  1. Frozen Armor [1/20] - provides a bonus to Defense and Freezes any melee attacker that manages to hit you. 1 point is definitely worth spending here, especially when you have a lot of + skills from gear.
FIRE SPELLS

From here, we'll get some extra mana regen, which is nice.

Skills:

  1. Warmth [1/20] - A passive skill that increases your Mana Regeneration rate. Warmth is always worth taking and thus you'll see it in pretty much every Sorceress build regardless of its core specialization.

Items

With this build, you should focus your gear around extra Magic Find that is going to make farming much more efficient, +Skills which are going to help with clear speeds, and Lightning Damage/-Enemy Lightning Resistance. Reaching 117% FCR Breakpointis also recommended (Lightning Spells actually have different breakpoints than other Sorc spells, so 105% FCR is not enough to reach 12 FCR frames with them). Moreover, faster Run/Walk and extra Stamina/Stamina Regen are very useful to have as they will boost your overall mobility.

HELMETS

Harlequin Crest (Shako) - You can't go wrong with Shako in a Magic-Finding build and thus it's the first item we'd recommend for this Lightning Sorceress. It will give you a nice boost to survivability, MF, and damage.

Harlequin Crest

  • Defense: 98 to 141
  • Required Level: 62
  • Required Strength: 50
  • Durability: 20
    • +2 to All Skills
    • +1-148 to Life (+1.5 per Character Level)
    • +1-148 to Mana (+1.5 per Character Level)
    • Damage Reduced By 10%
    • 50% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
    • +2 to All Attributes

Griffon's Eye (Diadem) - This is one of those items that make stacking Magic Find on a Lightning Sorc quite difficult - it's just hard to pass up on Lightning Resistance Penetration, FCR, Lightning Skill Damage, and Skills.

Griffon's Eye

  • Defense: 150-260
  • Required Level: 76
  • Durability: 20
    • +100-200 Defense
    • +1 To All Skills
    • +25% Faster Cast Rate
    • -15-20% To Enemy Lightning Resistance
    • +10-15% To Lightning Skill Damage

WEAPONS

The Oculus (Swirling Crystal) - This amazing Class weapon provides +3 to Sorc Skill Levels, a lot of FCR, some Resistances, and Attributes, but, most importantly, it boasts a +50% Chance of Getting Magic Items. If you want more MF on your MF Sorc (and you do, most likely), this should be your first choice.

The Oculus

  • Damage: 18 to 42
  • Required Level: 42
  • Required Dexterity:
  • Required Strength:
  • Durability: 50
    • +3 To Sorceress Skill Levels

    • All Resistances +20
    • 25% Chance To Cast Level 1 Teleport When Struck
    • +30% Faster Cast Rate
    • +20 To Vitality
    • +20 Energy
    • +20% Enhanced Defense
    • 50% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items

Eschuta's Temper (Eldritch Orb) - This is an amazing weapon for a Lightning Sorceress. It gives everything you need to increase your damage output - Skill Levels, Lightning Skill Damage, and Faster Cast Rate. Just keep in mind that a high-rolled Eschuta's Temper is going to cost you a lot.

Eschuta's Temper

  • One-Hand Damage: 18 To 50
  • Required Level: 72
  • Durability: 30
  • Staff Class - Fast Attack Speed
  • (Sorceress Only)
    • +1-3 To Sorceress Skill Levels
    • +40% Faster Cast Rate
    • +10-20% To Fire Skill Damage
    • +10-20% To Lightning Skill Damage
    • +20-30 To Energy

Crescent Moon (Runeword) - This is a very interesting choice for the build. Pretty much the only worthwhile stat it gives is the Lightning Resistance Penetration, but it gives -35% of it! With Crescent Moon, lightning-immune enemies won't bother you anymore and you will be able to Magic Find anywhere without losing efficiency.

Crescent Moon

    • +[9-11] Magic Absorb (varies)
    • +2 to Mana after each Kill
    • Level 18 Summon Spirit Wolf (30 Charges)

Heart of the Oak (Runeword) - You can't go wrong with this classic either, especially if you need some extra Resistances and FCR. HotO is almost a perfect weapon for a Lightning Sorceress, however, it does not offer any Lightning Pen or Magic Find which makes it a bit worse for this particular variation of the build.

Heart of the Oak

    • Level 14 Raven (60 Charges)
SHIELDS

Spirit Shield (Runeword) - A solid choice if you're lacking Resistances, Faster Cast Rate, and Survivability. Also, it's also very cheap to make and gives you +2 to all skills.

Rhyme

  • Defense: Depends on base Shield
  • Required Level: 25
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Shield
  • Durability: Depends on base Shield
  • Tal + Thul + Ort + Amn

    • Cold Resist +35%
    • Lightning Resist +35%
    • Poison Resist +35%
    • +3-8 Magic Absorb
    • Attacker Takes Damage of 14

Splendor (Rune Word) - A nice and inexpensive Magic Finding Shield Runeword. It lacks defense but makes up for it with its +1 to all Skills, FCR, Mana Regen, and Magic Find.

Splendor

  • Defense: Depends on base Shield
  • Required Level: 37
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Shield
  • Durability: Depends on base Shield

    • 50% Extra Gold From Monsters
    • 20% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
    • +3 To Light Radius

A 4-Socketed Monarch - If you really want to go all-in, you can take a Monarch with 4 open sockets and put 4 Ist Runes into it. Doing so would result in a WShield boasting + 100% Magic Find, but nothing else.

Monarch

  • Defense:  133-148
  • Required Level: 54
  • Required Dexterity: -
  • Required Strength: 156
  • Durability: 86
  • Ist + Ist + Ist + Ist
    • 100% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
WEAPON SWAP

Call to Arms (Runeword) - This powerful Runeword will allow you to pre-buff yourself up with Warcries (buffs persist through weapon swap). You should combine this with a Shield that gives +2 to All Skills for the best effect.

Call to Arms

  • Defense: Depends on base Weapon
  • Required Level: 57
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Weapon
  • Durability: Depends on base Weapon
  • Amn • Ral • Mal • Ist

    • +1-4 To Battle Cry
    • Prevent Monster Heal
    • Replenish Life +12
    • 30% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items

AMULETS

A Magic/Rare Amulet with + Magic Find Affixes -  If you can afford one of these, go for it; Magic Amulets can have up to 50% MF (these are more expensive), and Rares can roll up to 35%, which makes them a bit cheaper.

Rare Amulet Magic Amulet

  • In Magic Amulets, look for:
    • Magic Find
    • + to lightning Spells
    • Resistances
  • In Rare Amulets, look for:
    • Magic Find
    • + to Sorceress Skills
    • Resistances
    • Attributes

Mara's Kaleidoscope - In a build that wants +All Skills, this amulet is a must for the end game. It provides a great combination of offensive (+2 to all skills) and defensive (+20-30 to all resistances) properties.

Mara's Kaleidoscope

  • Required Level: 67
    • +2 To All Skills
    • All Resistances +30
    • +5 To All Attributes

ARMORS

Chains of Honor (Runeword) - As far as Armors go, CoH is a great all-rounder. It greatly improves your defenses by granting you physical damage reduction and +65 to all Resistances (this is spatially important as it allows you to stack MF Small Charms without sacrificing Resistances to do it). It improves your DPS by giving you +2 to All Skills. It makes it easier to equip heavy gear by providing +20 Strength (this also boosts your survivability indirectly as it allows you to spend more points on Vitality). And it also makes you a bit better at Magic Finding.

Chains of Honor

  • Defense: Depends on base Armor
  • Required Level: 63
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Armor
  • Durability: Depends on base Armor
  • Dol + Um + Ber + Ist
    • +2 To All Skills
    • +200% Damage to Demons
    • +100% Damage to Undead
    • 8% Life Stolen per Hit
    • +70% Enhanced Defense
    • +20 to Strength
    • Replenish Life +7
    • All Resistances +65
    • Physical Damage Taken Reduced by 8%
    • 25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

Enigma (Runeword) - Recommending Enigma for a Sorceress feels a bit wrong, but we have to remember that this Armor is not only about the Teleport. It's also about + Skills, Faster Run/Walk, Damage Reduction, and very high Magic Find. You can't go wrong with it, even on a Sorceress.

Enigma

  • Defense: Depends on base Armor
  • Required Level: 65
  • Required Strength: Depends on base Armor
  • Durability: Depends on base Armor
  • Jah + Ith + Ber
    • +2 To All Skills
    • +45% Faster Run/Walk
    • +1 To Teleport
    • +750-775 Defense (varies)
    • +(0.75*Clvl) To Strength (Based On Character Level)
    • Increase Maximum Life 5%
    • Damage Reduced By 8%
    • +14 Life After Each Kill
    • 15% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
    • (1*Clvl)% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (Based On Character Level)

Skullder's Ire (Russet Armor) - This relatively cheap armor is going to give you quite a lot of defense, some offensive utility with +1 to All Skills, and up to 125% Magic Find. If you plan on running a Magic Finding Lightning Sorceress on a budget, it might be worth your consideration.

Skullder's Ire

  • Defense: 634-732
  • Required Level: 42
  • Required Strength: 97
  • Durability: 90
    • +1 to All Skills
    • +[160-200]% Enhanced Defense (varies)
    • Magic Damage Taken Reduced by 10
    • [1-123]% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (1.25% per Character Level)
    • Repairs 1 Durability in 5 Seconds
    • +60 Durability

RINGS

The Stone of Jordan - You can't go wrong with double SoJ in this build. A pair of these will give you 50% extra mana and a nice boost to DPS.

The Stone of Jordan

  • Required Level: 29
    • +1 to All Skills
    • Increase Maximum Mana by 25%
    • Adds 1-12 Lightning Damage
    • +20 to Mana

Nagelring - This ring can give you up to 30% extra Magic Find and some damage taken reduction. Other than that, it's rather mediocre for a caster, thus you should use it only if you feel like you can afford to sacrifice other stats to gain some MF.

Nagelring

  • Required Level: 7
    • +[50-75] to Attack Rating (varies)
    • Magic Damage Taken Reduced by 3
    • Attacker Takes Damage of 3
    • [15-30]% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (varies)

A Magic Ring with MF Affixes - Rings like these can have up to 50% MF, which is Best in Slot. They are extremely rare, however, and their price is likely to scare you off even if you manage to find one for sale.

Magic Ring

  • In Magic Rings, look for:
    • Magic Find

GLOVES

Chance Guards (Chain Gloves) - These Gloves offer up to 40% MF and a nice bonus to gold drop, and are generally the best Magic Finding choice for this slot.

Chance Guards

  • Defense: 67-74
  • Required Level: 45
  • Required Strength: 58
  • Durability: 16
    • +20-30% Enhanced Defense (varies)
    • +15 Defense
    • +25 to Attack Rating
    • 25-40% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (varies)
    • 200% Extra Gold From Monsters
    • +2 to Light Radius

Magefist (Light Gauntlets) - Using Magefist over Chance Guards is going to lower your Magic Find by a bit but, in return, you'll get a nice boost to mana regen and +20 FCR, both of which are great bonuses for a Sorceress.

Magefist

Defense: 24 - 25
Required Strength: 45
Durability: 18
Required Level: 23
  • +20-30% Enhanced Defense (varies)
  • +10 Defense
  • +1 To Fire Skills
  • 20% Faster Cast Rate
  • Regenerate Mana 25%
  • Adds 1-6 Fire Damage

BOOTS

War Traveler (Battle Boots) - These boots are the only Magic Finding option you have for the slot. From them, you'll get up to 50% MF and a high reduction of stamina drain when running, which is going to allow you to run infinitely.

War Traveler

  • Defense: 120-139
  • Required Level: 42
  • Required Strength: 95
  • Kick Damage: 37-64
  • Durability: 48
    • +150-190% Enhanced Defense
    • 25% Faster Run/Walk
    • +10 to Vitality
    • +10 to Strength
    • Adds 15-25 Damage
    • +40% Slower Stamina Drain
    • Attacker Takes Damage Of 5-10
    • 30-50% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

BELTS

Goldwrap (Heavy Belt) - While this is the only belt that offers extra Magic Find, we can't really recommend it unless you feel like you don't need any other useful stats from this slot.

Goldwrap

  • Defense: 34-36
  • Potion Slots: 12
  • Required Level: 27
  • Required Strength: 45
  • Durability: 18
    • +40-60% Enhanced Defense (varies)
    • +25 Defense
    • 10% Increased Attack Speed
    • 30% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items
    • 50-80% Extra Gold From Monsters (varies)
    • +2 To Light Radius

Arachnid Mesh (Spiderweb Sash) - Picking up this belt over Goldwrap will allow you to be a bit more liberal with gear choices for other slots. This is because Arachnid Mesh is amazing for any caster build.

Arachnid Mesh

  • Defense: 119-138
  • Required Level: 80
  • Required Strength: 50
  • Durability: 12
  • 16 Potion Boxes
    • +90-120% Enhanced Defense
    • Slows Target By 10%
    • +1 To All Skills
    • +20% Faster Cast Rate
    • Increases Maximum Mana 5%
    • Level 3 Venom (11 Charges)

CHARMS

  1. Gheed's Fortune -  The secret to Gheed's wealth and prosperity. Pretty much a must-have if you're after the best available charms. It adds 80-160% extra gold from monsters, reduces vendor prices by up to 15%, and gives up to 40% better magic find.
  2. Grand Charms - You can boost your DPS by getting a couple of these with + Lightning Skills.
  3. Large Charms -  Using Large Charms in D2R is not recommended, with the exception of Hellfire Torch.
  4. Small Charms - With these, you should get as much Magic Find as you can. Small Charms give up to 7 MF each, so getting a full inventory of them is going to significantly boost your Magic Finding capabilities. 7-percenters are quite expensive, but you can get 5 and 6-percenters relatively cheaply.

MERCENARY

We recommend picking up Act 2 Might Mercenary for extra damage bonuses. He should be equipped with:

  1. Infinity Rune Word in Elite Polearm - This is a must-have for Lightning Sorceresses because of the Conviction Aura it provides. The Aura reduces the monster's Elemental Resistances allowing you to break immunities and increase your overall DPS.
  2. Fortitude Rune Word in Armor - This will ensure that your merc doesn't die (it will make him almost immortal).
  3. Andariel's Visage - An extremely solid and versatile headgear that will make your merc better in all respects.
