Lightning/Chain Lightning Sorceress Build for Diablo 2 Resurrected

Lightning/Chain Lightning
End-game Sorceress Build

For Diablo 2 Resurrected

Build Overview

Lightning is the Sorceress' most versatile specialization with the best end-game capabilities. It's not advised for leveling and early Ladder because of very high gear requirements, and its initial struggle with the ubiquitous Lightning immune monster's on Hell difficulty. But when you get all the equipment, it's simply one of the best end-game farming builds in the game with insane mobility and clear speed. It allows you to kill most of the enemies with ease, break immunities with Griffon's Eye and Infinity Merc while keeping the Magic Find stat at a respectable level without having to sacrifice too much of your performance.

In this guide, we have included most of the viable end-game Items. We have not included low-level and leveling Items for this build, as simply the following setup is now advised for leveling up as a character below level 80 or so - for that phase, it's simply better to use other Sorceress builds like Blizzard/Frozen Orb/Meteor and their corresponding sets of equipment.

You can also check our other  Diablo 2 Resurrected Builds

 Pros  Cons
Insane mobility and clear speed  Not viable for leveling/low-level characters
Very high sustained Boss DPS   Expensive to gear up
Efficiently breaks Lightning immunities when fully geared   Wide DPS range
Top Tier end-game builds for the Sorceress class

Skills

ATTRIBUTES
  1. Strength - barely enough points to equip all the desired equipment. Please note that some of the gear can provide Strength on its own when equipped, which is best to be calculated before allocating points here. You can get the stats needed on Charms for example, and then after equipping the Item with the correlating stat, you will be able to replace those Charms with your actual ones
  2. Dexterity - same as with Strength; you only need enough Dexterity to meet gear requirements
  3. Vitality - this is your primary stat which should have all the remaining points allocated
  4. Energy - do not add any points to Energy
COLD SPELLS

The only Cold Spell that you should invest 1 point into is the Frozen Armor, which is the core defensive buff for the Sorceress class. Just 1 point is enough, as it will be increased globally by your equipment and provide sufficient defensive bonuses for your character that way

Skills:

  1. Frozen Armor [1/20] - grants a solid defensive boost and freezes melee attackers that hit you

LIGHTNING SPELLS

This is the core Skill Tree for this pure Lightning Sorceress build. You are going to take pretty much all the Skills in here with the exception of Energy Shield (though it could still find some uses in alternative versions of this build). Whether you pick up Teleport or not, will also depend on whether you are using Enigma or not. Other than that you want to max out all Lightning DPS Skills that you are going to use: Lightning and Chain Lightning and all of its synergy skills that boost its damage

Skills:

  1. Static Field [1/20] - reduces the life of all enemies in its' radius. It's a great utility skill when it comes to taking down tougher enemies, simply by instantly
  2. Telekinesis [1/20] - Prerequisite for Teleport
  3. Teleport [1/20] - the best mobility Spell in Diablo 2 Resurrected. It instantly moves you to a destination within your line of sight. If you are using Enigma, you can skip allocating that single point in here
  4. Charged Bolt [20/20] - mainly for the DPS synergy offered to Lightning and Chain Lightning, you are not exactly going to use it directly to kill anything (unless you really want to)
  5. Lightning [20/20] - one of the primary DPS spells used in this build. It's mainly used to take down Bosses because of the higher concentrated DPS it offers when compared to Chain Lightning
  6. Chain Lightning [20/20] - the second DPS spell that you are going to use. It offers a much wider AoE and is better at clearing big packs of enemies that are spread around your screen
  7. Nova [20/20] - an AoE lightning spell that casts powerful Nova around your character. However, actually using it is up to your personal preferences, as we mainly recommend taking it for the synergies it offers to your other Skills and as a prerequisite to Thunder Storm
  8. Thunder Storm [1/20] - it's a buff that affects your character for a certain duration and causes nearby enemies to get struck by Lightning. Just 1 point here is enough as it's not going to be your primary source of DPS, but with maxed out Lightning Mastery and all the increases to All Skills from your gear, it will actually be a very efficient addition to your build for just 1 point
  9. Lightning Master [20/20] - a mandatory Passive from this Skill Tree that boosts your Lightning Spell Damage directly
FIRE SPELLS

We want just a single Skill from this one for increased Mana Recovery. Just like with Frozen Armor, 1 point is enough here. Any excess points after level 94 can be allocated in it as well

Skills:

  1. Warmth [1/20] - a passive skill that increases your Mana Regeneration rate. Warmth is always worth taking and thus you'll see it in pretty much every Sorceress build regardless of its core specialization

Items

You should primarily try to plan your build so that you get to the 117% Faster Cast Rate - it shouldn't be hard, you can get it from HoTO, Griffon's, Spirit, and Arachnid Mesh, all quite a standard set of equipment for Sorceress. Then you aim to maximize the level of your All and then Lightning Skills, Faster Hit Recovery (getting Spirit Monarch should suffice), and all kinds of added Lightning Damage to Spells. If you want to deal with Lightning Immune monsters, getting Infinity Merc and Griffon's Eye is strongly advised

HELMETS

Griffon's Eye (Diadem) - the BiS item for this build which grants increases to All Skills, high FCR, and what's most important, high Lightning Resistance Penetration. Top Tier pick in terms of DPS

Harlequin Crest (Shako) - another great pick, however, it's mainly recommended for its' MF stat if you are looking to maximize Loot when farming mid-Tier content. You will be lacking some DPS and Lightning immune monster's will be more troublesome

WEAPONS

Spirit Weapon (Runeword) - a very powerful Rune Word, though for this build it should be treated as a budget alternative to your end-game weapons like HoTO and well-rolled Eschuta

[MF] The Oculus (Swirling Crystal) - This is a great end-game choice if you're after extra Magic Find (Oculus gives a whooping +50% MF). The Oculus

    • 50% Better Chance Of Getting Magic Items

Eschuta's Temper (Eldritch Orb) - a well-rolled one can be one of the best Weapons for this build. It should boost your Skills by 3 levels and offer high Lightning DPS boost, other than that you may be better off with some of the Weapons listed above

Eschuta's Temper

  • One-Hand Damage: 18 To 50
  • Required Level: 72

WEAPON SWAP

Call to Arms (Runeword) - assuming you are playing solo or without a Barbarin on your team, it's recommended to use Call to Arms Runewords on your weapon swap for the extra bonuses from Warcries. You are also looking to get any Shield with +2 to All Skills on the secondary slot to increase their effectiveness. When the buffs are active simply switch to your main weapons and proceed with the destruction. It consists of Amn Ral Mal Ist and Ohm Runes, which should be socketed in a low stat requirement item

It grants a lot of extra Skill levels, Faster Run/Walk that even further boost your mobility, and a high MF stat that's always good to have. Socket the required Jah, Ith, and Ber Runes in a Mage Plate preferably, for a low strength requirements

    • All Resistances +20-35 (varies)

Ormus' Robes (Dusk Shroud) - maybe a little less popular, but still a very viable option. If you roll it properly with +3 to Lightning Skills and high bonus Lightning Skill Damage, it can be a very solid piece of gear on your character

Ormus' Robe

    • Maximum Mana to 25%
    • Adds 1-12 Lightning Damage
    • +20 to Mana

GLOVES

Chance Guards (Chain Gloves) - one of the best pairs for this build. They are used solely for the Magic Find and Gold Find stats, but since you should be easily able to reach the desired 117% FCR breakpoint, you may well use such a pair in this slot

War Traveler (Battle Boots) - our top recommendation for this slot. War Travelers grant the highest Magic Find stat any on pair of boots in the game (if rolled properly). They also offer bonus STR, VIT, and high protection against Stamina drain, making them one of the best boots in the game for pretty much all the classes

 War Traveler

  • Assassin Kick Damage: 37-64

BELTS

Verdungo's Hearty Cord (Mithril Coil) - this Belt provides insane bonus to Life and Damage reduction, making it one of the best options here.

Verdungo's Hearty Cord

  • Defense: 125-158
  • Required Level: 63
  • Required Strength: 106
  • Durability: 16
  • 16 Potion Boxes
    • +90-140% Enhanced Defense
    • 10% Faster Hit Recovery
    • +30-40 To Vitality
    • Replenish Life +10-13
    • +100-120 Maximum Stamina
    • Damage Reduced By 10-15%

[BIS] Arachnid Mesh (Spiderweb Sash) - our top recommendation for this build. After all, you are a Sorceress, and dealing damage is what Sorceress does best so you should also aim at miximing it. Arachnid Mesh grants extra FCR and increase to All Skills making it one of the most popular caster belts in the game

Arachnid Mesh

  • Defense: 119-138
  • Potion Slots: 16
  • Required Level: 80
  • Required Strength: 50
  • Durability: 12

    • +1 To All Skills
    • 20% Faster Cast Rate
    • Maximum Mana 5%
    • Level 3 Venom (11 Charges)

CHARMS

  1. Annihilus - the best Small Char in the game, make sure to get one for your character as it's simply irreplacable
  2. Hellfire Torch -  just like Annihilus, a must-have Large Charm for any character
  3. Gheed's Fortune - you wouldn't be a true Sorc if you didn't aim at getting the best out of slain monster's so you should add some Magic Find to your equipment. Gheed's Fortune grants up to 40% bonus Magic Find
  4. Grand Charms -  all should come with +1 to Lightning Skills and Maximum Life
  5. Small Charms - make sure to get all the missing Resistnaces here, and possibly extra Life and MF

MERCENARY

This build heavily relies on Act 2 Mercenary with equipped Infinity to break immunity on Monsters (or simply increase your Lightning DPS). You should also pick one with the Might Aura, it will boost your Merc's Physical Damage and allow him to deal extra damage to enemies (including ones with higher Lightning Resistance)

  1. Ifinity Rune Word in Elite Polearm - this is a must-have for Lightning Sorceresses because of the Conviction Aura it provides. The Aura reduces monster's Elemental Resistances allowing you to break immunities as well
  2. Fortitude Rune Word in Armor - the best possible armor for the Act 2 Merceray which boosts his defensive capabilities
  3. Andariel's Visage - the best Helmet. It offers high IAS and Life steal which are both extremely important for your Merc
