Build Overview
Barbarian's Find Item is a unique Skill that allows you to get over 50% (at Skill Level 20 and up) more Item drops from enemies. This singlehandedly makes Barbarian the best farming character you can make, especially in the late game. In the early game (read - without an Enigma), Find Item is still a great Skill that will boost your gains significantly, especially if you stack Magic Find right from the start.
Before you can use Find Item, you have to defeat your enemies. This is where Berserk comes in - it is a very powerful offensive skill that deals high Magic Damage at the cost of lowering your defense to 0. With it and Find Item combined, the featured Build is capable of dispatching Rare and Champion enemies quickly, while getting over 50% more items from them.

Pros | Cons |
Great Utility and good Mobility | Needs Enigma to achieve its full potential |
Extra Loot from Find Item - one of the best MB Builds for Diablo 2 | Power Leveling as a Barb can be rather painful |
High Single-Target Damage | Single-Target-focused |

COMBAT SKILLS |
As far as Combat Skills go, we're mainly interested in Berserk which is our main offensive skill. However, Concentrate and Stun also find their uses as they provide some nice (but somewhat situational) utility. Skills:

WARCRIES |
From here, we'll get some much-needed utility, Berserk Synergies, and one broken loot-generating skill. Skills:

COMBAT MASTERIES |
This Skill Tree contains some great passives - we'll take full advantage of them. Skills:

Items
Firstly, You will want to increase the level of All Skills/Barbarian Skills to the highest level possible. For Barbarians this is an even more important stat because of all the Warcries and Passives that benefit from it - because of this, all other stats and bonuses have a lower priority. The other offensive stat you want to focus on is Increased Attack Speed (you'll need a total of +42% of IAS as it's your final Breakpoint). Secondly, try to avoid Life and Mana Leech as won't work with Berserk and thus are close to useless. Thirdly, don't ever use any item that adds Cold Damage as Cold Damage has a chance of shattering your enemies, making using the Find Item on them impossible (bye, bye Raven Frost). Fourthly, you should stack as much Magic Find as possible because you benefit from it twice as much as other Classes, thanks to the Find Item. | |
HELMETS |
[Early] Lore (Runeword) - This is a great starter Helmet and you won't upgrade it for a long time unless you get very lucky. It gives you everything you might want, except for Magic Find.
[Late] Harlequin Crest (Shako) - This Helmet is a staple of Magic Find builds. It gives you everything you might want for your Barbarian - Skill levels, Mana, Health, Damage taken reduction, attributes, and magic find. |
WEAPONS |
[Early] Spirit Weapon (Runeword) - You can't go wrong with Spirit Weapon and you most likely won't change it for a long time. It is extremely powerful, considering that you can get it on day 1 (if you grind long enough, that is). |
[Late] Grief (Runeword) - This is an ultimate Weapon for the Berserk Skill. It can almost singlehandedly take care of your Increased Attack Speed Breakpoint (if you use Goldwrap, you'll need at least 32% IAS from this one). Moreover, it greatly increases your Damage and nullifies the enemy's defense. |
SHIELDS | |
[Early/Mid] Spirit Shield (Runeword) - A great Runeword that can be used as early as Level 25. It will make leveling much faster by giving you a lot of Resistances, + 1 to All Skills, and +55% Faster Hit Recovery. |
[Mid/Late] Rhyme (Runeword) - This amazing Runeword gives you +25 to all Resistances and provides the most important bonus of them all - Cannot Be Frozen. On top of that, it gives you a high Magic Find bonus, more Gold from monsters, and a +40 Faster Block Rate. |
[Mid/Late] Splendor (Runeword) - A great and inexpensive mid-to-late game alternative to Rhyme. Splendor is worth choosing if you want that +1 All Skills bonus, but don't want to lose Magic Find. |
AMULETS |
[Early] Rare/Magic Amulet with + Barbarian/Combat Skills/Warcries/Combat Masteries would be ideal, but chances of finding these are extremely low. Most likely, you will end up with a Magic Amulet with Magic Find and/or Resistances.
[Late] Mara's Kaleidoscope - In a build that wants +All Skills, this amulet is a must for the end game. It provides a great combination of offensive (+2 to all skills) and defensive (+20-30 to all resistances) properties. |
ARMORS |
[Early] Stealth (Runeword) - This amazing early-game Runeword will make the initial grind much easier (it regenerates mana and gives a substantial boost to the Faster Run/Walk). Everybody is using Stealth at the start and so should you. |
[Mid/Late] Skin of the Vipermagi (Serpentskin Armor) - A nice and relatively cheap upgrade over Stealth. From this, you'll get some Resistances and +1 to All Skills, which is great. |
[Late] Enigma (Runeword) - Arguably, the best item in the entire game. Without it, any character that is not a Sorceress is a mere shadow of itself. Enigma will greatly increase your Magic Find, give you +2 to All Skills, and provide you with Teleport which, as far as mobility goes, can't be matched by anything else. |
RINGS |
[Early] Rare/Magic Rings with Resistances, Magic Find, and Bonuses to Life are what you should be looking for early. You will most likely find tons of these early - just pick the best pair and use them until you find a replacement.
[Late] Wisp Projector - An amazing Ring that not only improves your skills but also gives you a bonus to Magic Find. Ideally, you'll want to run two of these. |
[Late] The Stone of Jordan - One of the most iconic items in Diablo 2. It increases the level of all your Skills and your max Mana. A solid offensive choice. |
GLOVES |
[Early] Rare Gloves with Magic Find, increased Gold from Monsters, and Half Freeze Duration are good early-game options until you find something better. |
[Late] Chance Guards (Chain Gloves) - A top choice when you're after extra Magic Find. Also, Chance Guards increase Attack Rating which is a nice stat to have for this build.
BOOTS |
[Early] Rare/Magic Boots with Faster Run/Walk, Magic Find, increased Gold from Monsters, and extra Attributes are a good early-game option until you find something better.
[Late] War Traveler (Battle Boots) - When you're after Magic Find, these are the only real option. From them, you'll get up to 50% Magic Find, unlimited running (thanks to slower stamina drain), and 25% Faster Run/Walk. |
BELTS |
[Early] Rare/Magic Rings with Faster Hit Recovery, bonuses to Life, and increased Gold from Monsters are a good early-game option until you find something better.
[Late] Goldwrap (Heavy Belt) - An interesting choice for this build; it increases Magic Find and Attack Speed. |

CHARMS |
MERCENARY |
Equipping a mercenary early on can be extremely difficult as finding a 4-Socket Polearm (for Insight Runeword) can take a lot of time, however, if you manage to do that, you should definitely employ a Merc as it will help you on your ventures. Please note that the below-mentioned recommendations can turn out to be quite expensive, especially early on. We recommend picking up Act 2 Defiance Mercenary for extra damage mitigation bonuses. He should be equipped with:
