Split Throw Amazon Build Guide for PD2
Turn newly introduced Jealousy into a deadly physical mapper with our Project Diablo 2 Split Throw Amazon Build.Split Throw Amazon Build
Last Update: October 13, 2026
Introduction
The Split Throw Amazon is one of the most interesting new physical builds introduced for Project Diablo 2 Season 14: Alliance. Its entire identity comes from the new Jealousy Runeword, which grants +12 to Split Throw on Amazon throwing weapons and finally gives the class access to a proper screen-clearing physical Javelin attack. Each throw divides into several projectiles and then returns toward the Amazon, creating strong coverage through packs and surprisingly good overlap against larger targets.
Season 14 also improved the mechanic around Split Throw itself. Knockback, Blind, Freeze Target, Open Wounds, Crushing Blow, and Slow now apply to every attack-based projectile created by multishot-style skills, including Split Throw. This gives physical utility gear much more value across the full spread and makes items such as Giant Skull and Gore Rider particularly attractive. Returning projectiles also retain the strong Split Throw behavior introduced in Season 13: they always Pierce, can overlap on the same target, and deal a portion of your Weapon Damage on the way back.
The Build scales through Javelin and Spear Mastery, Critical Strike, Penetrate, Pierce, Weapon Damage, Deadly Strike, Physical Resistance reduction, and attack speed. It also keeps a Shield equipped, giving the Amazon significantly more defensive flexibility than many conventional two-handed physical ranged setups.
Recommended Breakpoints
- Faster Hit Recovery (FHR): 32% is a comfortable baseline, while 52% is a strong general target
- Chance to Pierce: Aim for at least 90% during progression and push toward 100% for the smoothest Mapping
- Increased Attack Speed (IAS): Matriarchal Javelins use a fast base and the exact Split Throw breakpoint changes with your total IAS and Fanaticism support. Check the in-game Attack Speed Calculator in Advanced Stats and gear toward the next reachable breakpoint
- Attack Rating: Keep hit chance reliable through Javelin and Spear Mastery, Jealousy's Bonus to Attack Rating, Dexterity, and Maximum Damage/Attack Rating Charms
Stat Allocation
- Strength: Enough to meet gear requirements
- Dexterity: Enough to meet gear requirements; defensive variants can invest further for higher Block
- Vitality: Invest all remaining Points
- Energy: Nothing
The current physical setup gains most of its Damage from the Weapon, off-weapon Enhanced Damage, Critical Strike, Deadly Strike, and Physical Resistance reduction. A Vitality-heavy allocation therefore gives the best general balance for Mapping. Players building around a high-block Shield can move additional Points into Dexterity once their final equipment is established.
Pros
- Strong screen coverage with returning projectiles and high Pierce
- Excellent physical scaling through Amazon passives and Jealousy
- Can use a Shield for Block, Resistances, Amplify Damage, or extra utility
- CB, Open Wounds, Slow, Freeze, Blind, and Knockback work across the full projectile spread
Cons
- Jealousy requires Lo and Gul, so the final Build starts later than a normal league starter
- Positioning matters because much of the Build's extra pressure comes from the returning projectile path

Skill Trees

The Split Throw Amazon is best treated as a later transition because Split Throw comes directly from Jealousy, which requires Level 59 and a Lo Rune. For a fresh Season start, we recommend leveling as a Summazon and respeccing once Jealousy and the first pieces of physical gear are ready. Players who prefer a more active progression can also level through Power Strike and Lightning Strike, especially since both fit naturally into the Javelin side of the class.
After the respec, max Javelin and Spear Mastery and Penetrate first. These provide most of the Build's core physical scaling, Critical Strike Multiplier, and Physical Resistance reduction. Next, develop Critical Strike and invest into Pierce until your total chance reaches close to 100% with equipment.
Once the offensive core is complete, max Evade for additional defense and movement speed, then place the remaining Points into Dodge. A finished setup usually aims for 20 Javelin and Spear Mastery, 20 Penetrate, 20 Critical Strike, 20 Evade, enough Pierce for 100% total Pierce, and the rest in Dodge.
Soft Skill Levels still matter because Split Throw gains another projectile every five Skill Levels and caps at seven projectiles. +All Skills from gear can therefore push the Build through useful projectile breakpoints.
Gear
Jealousy is the defining Weapon and should be made in an Ethereal Matriarchal Javelin with +3 to Javelin and Spear Skills whenever possible. The Runeword supplies +12 Split Throw, strong Enhanced Damage, Deadly Strike, Bonus Attack Rating, +2 Passive and Magic Skills, and useful sustain. The Matriarchal Javelin itself can now reach three sockets in Season 14, which is the base change that makes the Runeword possible.
For the Shield, Head Hunter's Glory is one of the best offensive all-rounders. Its high-level Amplify Damage proc greatly improves physical Mapping and the 1-3 sockets can be used for Resistances or other defensive needs. Lance Guard pushes Deadly Strike and its multiplier, while the new Warriv's Warder offers Faster Run/Walk, Crushing Blow, Dodge, and excellent Blocking for a more defensive setup.
Giant Skull is a natural Helmet for the Build because Enhanced Damage, Crushing Blow, Knockback, Pierce, and sockets all support Split Throw directly. Veil of Steel offers a more balanced high-end package with +1 All Skills, Enhanced Damage, Attributes, and Resistances. That +1 All Skills is particularly useful when it moves Split Throw into another projectile threshold. Deception is the new inexpensive Season 14 alternative and combines Critical Strike Chance with Critical Strike Multiplier.
For Body Armour, Fortitude is the safest recommendation for raw physical output. Its large Enhanced Damage bonus scales every successful projectile hit. Wraithskin becomes a compelling high-end alternative once your Deadly Strike chance is strong because its Deadly Strike Multiplier adds another layer to the physical setup. Tyrael's Might trades some universal raw Damage for superb movement, Resistances, Cannot Be Frozen, and heavy bonuses against Demons and Undead.
For Gloves, Soul Drainer provides Physical Resistance reduction together with Life and Mana Leech. Steelrend gives a large amount of Enhanced Damage and Crushing Blow, while Laying of Hands remains excellent for IAS and Demon-heavy Maps. Strong Rare or Crafted Gloves with IAS, Enhanced Damage, Leech, Attributes, and Resistances can also solve several requirements at once.
Razortail is the best Belt while you are still building toward 90-100% Pierce. Once Pierce is solved through Skills, Giant Skull, corruptions, or other equipment, Nosferatu's Coil becomes a stronger offensive choice through IAS, Deadly Strike, and sustain. String of Ears and Siggard's Stealth are comfortable defensive alternatives.
Gore Rider is the default offensive Boots choice. Deadly Strike, Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, and its added Open Wounds Damage all fit the Season 14 projectile changes extremely well. War Traveler remains excellent for pure hit Damage because its flat Damage scales with the Build's large Enhanced Damage pool.
Highlord's Wrath is the strongest general Amulet thanks to IAS, Deadly Strike, and +1 All Skills. The Skill Level is unusually valuable here because it also advances Split Throw toward the next projectile threshold. Atma's Scarab is an alternative source of Amplify Damage when your Shield setup provides more raw Damage or defense.
For Rings, Raven Frost provides Cannot Be Frozen, Dexterity, and Attack Rating. The second slot can use Bul-Kathos' Death Band for Enhanced Damage and protection or a strong Rare/Crafted Ring with Life or Mana Leech, Attack Rating, Attributes, and Resistances.
Charms
A physical Split Throw setup gains the most consistent offensive value from Maximum Damage / Attack Rating Charms. Start with an Amazon Hellfire Torch and Annihilus, then use strong Damage Charms with Maximum Damage, Attack Rating, and Life. Annihilus is especially useful because +1 All Skills also raises Split Throw itself.
Passive and Magic Skill Grand Charms improve Critical Strike, Pierce, Dodge, and Evade, but they leave Javelin and Spear Mastery and Split Throw untouched. Once the important Passive breakpoints are covered, direct physical Damage Charms usually provide better endgame scaling. Use the remaining slots for Life, Resistances, Faster Hit Recovery, and Attack Rating.
What About the Poison Hybrid?
Jealousy includes -[12-16]% to Enemy Poison Resistance, which has created plenty of discussion around mixing Split Throw with Poison or Plague Javelin. The concept has potential: Poison Javelin can establish a strong Damage-over-Time effect while Split Throw keeps dealing physical Damage during the poison duration, and Season 14 also lets Open Wounds spread much more effectively across Split Throw's projectiles.
Beta testing showed significantly stronger results for the pure Physical version, which consistently performed as the most stable and reliable setup throughout testing. Poison investment altered Skills, Charms, and several key gear priorities at the same time, making optimization considerably more complex. Early testing suggested that the hybrid approach had potential, but the available data was not extensive enough to determine the optimal balance between Poison scaling and Physical Damage with confidence.
Mercenary
An Act 1 Vigor Mercenary with Faith is the strongest general support choice for the physical Split Throw Amazon. Vigor improves the constant repositioning that makes the returning projectile pattern work, while Fanaticism adds Damage and Attack Speed and makes the upper Split Throw breakpoints much easier to reach.
A cheaper physical progression option is the Act 4 Dark Mercenary, whose Amplify Damage helps against resistant enemies and can break many Physical Immunities. This is particularly useful before Head Hunter's Glory or premium aura support becomes available.
- Faith (Weapon)
- Vampire Gaze or Andariel's Visage (Helmet)
- Templar's Might, Fortitude, or another durable Mercenary Armour (Armour)
- Strong Rare/Crafted Gloves with IAS and sustain (Gloves)
- String of Ears or Verdungo's Hearty Cord (Belt)
- Rare Boots with Resistances and defensive modifiers (Boots)
Final Thoughts
The Split Throw Amazon already feels like more than a novelty build. Jealousy gives the class a physical Javelin attack with excellent coverage, while Javelin and Spear Mastery, Critical Strike, Penetrate, and the Amazon's defensive passives give it a very different identity from the Barbarian version.
Its best moments come once high Pierce and good positioning work together. A clean throw travels through the pack, turns around, and sends several projectiles back through the same fight while Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, Knockback, and other physical utility spread across the volley. Add a Shield, strong movement speed, and Fanaticism support, and the result is a fast physical Mapper with plenty of room for optimization.
