Build Overview

Bleeding Damage is one of the core Barbarian mechanics. It's Physical Damage dealt over time. To make the most use of it, use Rend - a Core Skill, and combine it with other supplementary abilities like Shouts. Steel Grasp is used to pull enemies closer, which yields many bonuses to clear speed, Shouts effectiveness, or passives like Pit Fighter. Enemies will be nearly constantly Slowed and Vulnerable, making them easier to slay. The character is quite durable as it can easily Fortify itself. The build has superb Fury Generation with Furious Rend, Tactical Rallying Cry, and Aspect of Echoing Fury.

Please keep in mind, that the following Guide explains the basic variant of the build, without diving into all alternative variants that may utilize different utility skills for various benefits. This will be obviously updated as we have a chance to test out this build properly in the actual game.

Skills

REND [5/5]

Deals relatively low damage to all enemies in front of you, but inflicts a powerful Bleeding Damage which lasts 5 seconds. It's a Core Skill and the main DPS source.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced Rend [1/1] - Damaging hits extend the Vulnerability duration on the target by 2 seconds.
  2. Furious Rend [1/1] - Hits with Rend grant 4 Fury per enemy, capping at 5 enemies. If you have good enough Fury Generation, get the other mod - Violent Rend, for more damage.

FLAY [1/5]

It's very similar to Rend - it causes Bleeding for 5 seconds but has less damage and can only target one enemy. It will be used to weaken opponents, use it every 3 seconds.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced Flay [1/1] - The skill has now a 10% Chance to cause Vulnerability for 2 seconds. 20% if you're using a 2-hand weapon. Use it to apply this debuff when Steel Grasp is on Cooldown.
  2. Battle Flay [1/1] - Hits with Flay will cause the target to take x10% increased Bleeding Damage for the next 3 seconds.

RALLYING CRY [5/5]

For the next 6 seconds after using this Skill, your Movement Speed is increased by +30%, and Resource Generation by x56%. It affects allies but only for 2 seconds.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced Rallying Cry [1/1] - The Skill also grants Unstoppable during its effect.
  2. Tactical Rallying Cry [1/1] - It instantly Generates 20 Fury and increases Resource Generation by x20%. If you have good Resource Generation even without it, use Strategic Rallying Cry. It Fortifies you.

CHALLENGING SHOUT [1/5]

Taunts enemies nearby, and grants 40% Damage Reduction for 6 seconds. Use it defensively or to get more Fury.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced Challenging Shout [1/1] - Your Maximum Life is increased by x20% when under the effect of this Skill.
  2. Tactical Challenging Shout [1/1] - Each time you take damage during the Skill's duration you gain 3 Fury.

WAR CRY [1/5]

It simply increases your damage by x15% for 6 seconds. 3 seconds for allies.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced War Cry [1/1] - It also grants Berserking for 4 seconds.
  2. Power War Cry [1/1] - The damage bonus gets increased to x25% if there were at least 6 enemies when the Skill was used.

STEEL GRASP [1/5]

Pulls 3 enemies to you so it's great with Rend or War Cry. It has an 11-second Cooldown and deals little to no damage.

Modifiers:

  1. Enhanced Steel Grasp [1/1] - Pulled enemies are Vulnerable for 2.5 seconds.
  2. Fighter's Steel Grasp [1/1] - You can store an additional charge of this Skill.

IRON MAELSTORM [1/1]

The Ultimate Skill which uses three of your Weapons (requires Full Arsenal) and has to be activated three times. First, your 2-h Bludgeoning Weapon Stuns the enemies, then your 2-h Slashing Weapon inflicts Bleeding, and then your Dual-Wiled Weapon spin around you dealing damage.

Modifiers:

  1. Prime Iron Maelstorm [1/1] - Increases Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage.
  2. Supreme Iron Maelstorm [1/1] - Swapping Weapons and dealing damage with them reduces the Cooldown of this Skill by one second.

Passive Skills

BOOMING VOICE [3/3]

All Shouts' Skill Effect Duration is increased by x24%. These are War Cry, Challenging Shout, and Rallying Cry.

RAID LEADER [3/3]

Shouts also Heal allies for 3% of their Maximum Life a second.

PIT FIGHTER [3/3]

You deal x9% increased Damage to Close enemies, and take x6% Reduced Damage from Distant sources.

NO MERCY [3/3]

It grants +9% increased Crit Chance against Slowed, Stunned, or Immobilized enemies. Slow is applied with Hamstring.

HAMSTRING [1/3]

Bleeding you inflict on enemies makes them Slower by 10%.

CUT TO THE BONE [3/3]

The Bleeding deals x18% increased damage to Vulnerable enemies, so pretty much always.

THICK SKIN [3/3]

Taking damage Fortifies you for 1.2% of Maximum Life. It's good with Enhanced Challenging Shout.

DEFENSIVE STANCE [3/3]

Damage Reduction gained while Fortified is increased by +6%.

COUNTEROFFENSIVE [3/3]

If you're Fortified for over half of your Maximum Life, you deal x12% increased damage.

HEAVY HANDED [3/3]

Critical Strike Damage is increased by x12% while wielding a 2-hand weapon. Use such a weapon.

Key Passive

GUSHING WOUNDS

It's the best Key Passive for Bleeding builds. It makes the Crit Damage Bonus affect your Bleed Damage by an equal amount, and your Crit Chance affects the Chance of this effect occurring. Overpowering an already Bleeding enemy causes an explosion that inflicts Bleeding.

Technique

Two-Handed Sword Expertise

It causes you to deal x15% increased Damage to Vulnerable enemies. You have many reliable ways to cause Vulnerability.

Items

Here's the stat priority list. This build takes advantage mostly of Bleed-type of damage, but also Critical Strike Chance and Damage due to the Gushing Wounds Key Passive. Enemies will be Slowed and Vulnerable most of the time. For survivability focus on damage reduction. The main damaging ability, Rend, is a Core Skill.

  1. 2-Hand - Core Skill DMG → % Crit DMG → % DMG to Close
  2. Helm - % CDR
  3. Chest Armor - % DMG Reduction from Close → % DMG Reduction → % Physical DMG
  4. Gloves - % Crit DMG → Rend → % Crit Chance → Bleed Damage
  5. Pants - % DMG Reduction → % Max Life → % DMG Reduction
  6. Boots - % Move Speed → All Stat → % Elemental Res
  7. Amulet - % CDR → % Resource Cost Reduction
  8. Rings - % Crit Chance → % Crit DMG

In the Sockets use Amethyst Gem in a Weapon slot for more Damage over Time, which includes Bleeding. Use Sapphire Gem in your Armor for damage reduction while you're Fortified, which you are after taking damage. For the Jewelry, choose Skull for the extra Armor, or Diamond for Resistance if you need them.

Legendary Aspects

Mandatory/Heavily recommended Aspects

  1. Aspect of the Expectant can be useful. Using a Basic Skill (Flay) will increase the Damage of the next Core Skill (Rend). You should use both of them regularly anyway.

Optional Aspects

  1. Aspect of the Protector is good if you struggle with Elites - it grants a Barrier when you hit them, but has a 30-second "cooldown".
  2. Edgemaster's Aspect makes you deal increased Damage the more Fury you have at the time you cast a Skill. If you're at full Fury, it's 20% increased Damage.
  3. Aspect of Echoing Fury grants your Shouts Fury Generation, up to 4 a second per active Shout.
  4. Bold Chieftain's Aspect. Using a Shout reduces its Cooldown per nearby enemy. You can reduce its Cooldown by up to 6 seconds this way. It's great when combined with Steel Grasp.
  5. Wind Strikes Aspect is good if your Crit Chance is high. It grants Movement Speed on Critical Strike.

Paragon

1st Board - Starting Board

Nodes - Pick up Willpower around the Glyph Socket.

Glyphs - Disembowel increases Bleeding Damage. It also grants you a 10% chance to reduce Cooldowns by 1 second when killing Bleeding enemies.

2nd Board - Blood Rage Board

Nodes - Pick up Dexterity around the Glyph Socket. Allocate the Legendary node for a 10% chance to gain Berserking on kill.

Glyphs - Bloodfeeder increases Critical Strike Chance and regular Damage against Bleeding enemies.

3rd Board - Decimator Board

Nodes - Pick up Strength around the Glyph Socket. Decimator's Legendary node is great if you're using a Slashing weapon, which you have to. It's another way to make enemies Vulnerable on hit.

Glyphs - Cleaver increases Damage while wielding an Axe, which you should be. It also increases Critical Damage - it's great with Gushing Wounds.

4th Board - Warbringer Board

Nodes - Pick up Dexterity around the Glyph Socket. Warbringer node will grant you 20% of your Maximum Life as Fortify for every 75 Fury spent.

Glyphs - Exploit is a must-have. It increases the damage you deal to Vulnerable targets, the secondary bonus is also quite good, but not really needed.

5th Board - Hemmorhage Board

Nodes - Pick up Willpower around the Glyph Socket. The Legendary node increases your damage by 15% against enemies which were Bleeding for at least 3 seconds.

Glyphs - Dominate is used to Overpower bosses - it's again, excellent with Gushing Wounds Passive. It also increases Overpower Damage.
