Quill Volley Spiritborn Build for Diablo 4

Quill Volley Spiritborn Build for Diablo 4

One full Vigor bar, one deadly volley. Learn how Kepeleke and Midnight Sun turn Quill Volley into a nonstop barrage.

Quill Volley Spiritborn Build

Last Update: November 2, 2026

Introduction

The Quill Volley Spiritborn can make an entire corridor disappear beneath a fan of razor-sharp feathers. Each cast pierces the first line of enemies, spreads through the pack, and leaves you ready to fire again almost immediately. With Quill Command, the feathers converge on a selected target and hit much harder on Critical Strikes. Against a boss, stepping closer allows several feathers to connect at once. It is a surprisingly satisfying mix of ranged clearing and close-range precision.

The real engine is Rod of Kepeleke. It makes Quill Volley both a Core and Basic Skill and removes its regular Vigor cost. When your Vigor is full, however, the Rod spends the entire pool for a guaranteed Critical Strike with a powerful damage bonus. Ring of the Midnight Sun returns some of that spent Vigor after the hit. Alongside Vigor Generation from your support skills, it creates a rhythm of full-resource shots that can become extremely fast once your equipment is ready.

The supporting package makes those volleys considerably more dangerous. Harmony of Ebewaka adds the Jaguar tag through your secondary Spirit Hall choice, allowing Quill Volley to benefit from Rezoka's Rage. Its Prowess stacks reward repeated direct hits, while Ferocious Aspect and Ravager let you build a larger Ferocity pool. The feathers keep moving, Critical Strikes keep landing, and the damage rises noticeably once the fight has been going for a few seconds.

This setup also gives the Spiritborn enough protection to fight near dangerous packs. Armored Hide provides an emergency Block window, Scourge poisons and controls enemies, and The Protector offers a safe area for harder encounters. There is one catch: missing full Vigor before a shot costs you the Rod's guaranteed Critical Strike, so resource recovery is just as important as damage. Once that part works, Quill Volley handles packed dungeons and tough targets with a crisp, fast-paced combat loop.

Pros

  • Strong AoE Damage
  • Excellent Critical Strikes
  • Good Boss Damage
  • Reliable Defensive Skills

Cons

  • Needs Key Unique Items
  • Strict Vigor Management
  • Positioning Matters

Equipment

Rod of Kepeleke comes first. Before obtaining it, Quill Volley still spends Vigor normally and cannot deliver the repeated full-resource Critical Strikes that define this build. The Rod adds the Basic tag and makes every ordinary cast free; when you have full Vigor, it instead consumes that resource for a much stronger attack. Your first serious upgrades should therefore focus on Maximum Vigor and enough Vigor Generation to recover between casts. A Greater Affix on Core Skill Ranks is especially valuable.

Ring of the Midnight Sun is the second required Unique. Its refund is tied to Vigor spent recently and is triggered by your Critical Strikes. The Rod guarantees a Critical Strike only when you cast from full Vigor, so the two items work together as long as your regeneration fills the gap left by the Ring. A higher refund roll is valuable, but it does not automatically cover the entire cost. Keep improving Resource Generation on Legendary equipment until your next Quill Volley consistently starts from a full bar.

Harmony of Ebewaka occupies the Helm slot. Choose Gorilla as your Primary Spirit Hall and Jaguar as your Secondary. Your Quill Volley then benefits from Gorilla and Jaguar tagging alongside its Eagle identity. This makes the Helm especially effective with Rezoka's Rage, which provides strong bonuses to Jaguar Skills. The Helm has a lower damage bonus than earlier versions of the item, but the additional skill tags remain highly valuable for this configuration.

The remaining equipment supports that fast Critical Strike loop. Ferocious Aspect on Gloves raises the maximum number of Ferocity stacks, while Aspect of the Moonrise on Ring 2 grants Attack Speed and Basic Skill damage. Moonrise works because Kepeleke makes Quill Volley a Basic Skill. Aspect of Redirected Force on the Amulet converts your Block Chance into Critical Strike Damage. Combined with Aspect of Interdiction on Boots and Resolve from your defensive skills, this gives the attack another damage boost.

Two defensive aspects complete the equipment. Aspect of Glynn's Anvil goes on Pants for additional Maximum Resolve and Damage Reduction, while Aspect of Debilitating Toxins belongs on Chest Armor. Scourge and Toxic Skin can keep enemies Poisoned, allowing you to benefit from the Chest aspect while standing close enough to land multiple feathers. These defenses are especially useful when using The Protector to hold your ground during dangerous Elite fights.

Complete the Rezoka's Rage Talisman set with five different Set Charms. Use Ring of the Midday Hunt as the sixth Charm once you can craft or obtain it in Charm form. Its Maximum Vigor bonus creates a much larger potential Critical Strike with Kepeleke, although it also raises the amount of Vigor you must recover before the next cast. For ordinary Legendary affixes, prioritize Maximum Vigor, Resource Generation, Critical Strike Damage, Attack Speed, Dexterity, Maximum Life and Resistance to All Elements. Greater Affixes on Core Skill Ranks and useful resource stats are particularly good investments.

Rezoka's Rage

  • Berú of Rezoka's Rage
  • Fer of Rezoka's Rage
  • Linta of Rezoka's Rage
  • Mlor of Rezoka's Rage
  • Phoba of Rezoka's Rage

  • (2) Set: Dealing direct damage to enemies 65 times grants Prowess for 5 seconds, stacking up to 5 times, but does not refresh at 5 stacks. Jaguar Skills gain 5%[+] Cast Speed and 10%[x] Critical Strike Damage per stack.
  • (3) Set: Gain 5% Dodge Chance and 5% Damage Reduction per stack of Prowess.
  • (5) Set: Prowess lasts 8 seconds, can be refreshed, and its bonuses are increased by 25%. At 5 stacks of Prowess, Ferocity is overfilled by 2 and Jaguar Skills deal 25%[x] increased damage per Ferocity stack.

Rod of Kepeleke

Unique Quarterstaff - Two-Handed Weapon
  • Ranks to Core Skills

Your Core Skills are also Basic Skills and free to cast. When cast at Maximum Vigor, they consume all Vigor, cast at their largest Size and become guaranteed Critical Strikes, with [1.00 - 1.20]%[x] increased Critical Strike Damage for every point of Vigor spent.

Spiritborn

Ring of the Midnight Sun

Unique Ring - Ring 1
  • Critical Strike Chance

When you Critically Strike, regain [40 - 50]%[+] of the Vigor spent in the last 2 seconds. Gain Counterattack's Passive Effect.

Spiritborn

Harmony of Ebewaka

Unique Helm
  • Maximum Life

Based on your Secondary Spirit Hall choice, your Skills are additionally Jaguar, Eagle, Gorilla, or Centipede Skills. Your Skills deal [20 - 25]%[x] increased damage per Spirit type they have.

Spiritborn

Ring of the Midday Hunt

Unique Talisman Charm - Sixth Slot

Maximum Vigor is increased by 50%, and killing an enemy grants [7 - 10] Vigor. While you have Ferocity, new Poisoning effects last 33% longer.

Spiritborn

The Legendary Aspects below use six separate slots: Debilitating Toxins on Chest Armor, Ferocious on Gloves, Glynn's Anvil on Pants, Interdiction on Boots, Redirected Force on Amulet and Moonrise on Ring 2. The Helm, Ring 1 and two-handed Weapon are occupied by their required Uniques. Every listed Aspect is compatible with its assigned slot.

Aspect of Debilitating Toxins

Gain 30% Damage Reduction. Poisoned enemies deal 15% less damage to you.

Amulet, Chest Armor, Helm, Pants

Ferocious Aspect

Maximum Ferocity stacks are increased by 6.

Two-Handed Bludgeoning, Two-Handed Slashing, Amulet, Gloves, Main Hand, Off-Hand, Ring 1, Ring 2

Aspect of Glynn's Anvil

Maximum Resolve is increased by 2. Each Resolve stack grants [2.5 - 4.0]% Damage Reduction, up to [25 - 40]%.

Amulet, Chest Armor, Helm, Main Hand, Off-Hand, Pants

Aspect of Interdiction

Gain 3.0%[+] Block Chance for each stack of Resolve.

Amulet, Boots, Chest Armor, Gloves, Helm, Main Hand, Off-Hand, Pants

Aspect of Redirected Force

Gain increased Critical Strike Damage equal to 60%[x] of your Block Chance. Blocking doubles this bonus for 10 seconds.

Two-Handed Weapon, Amulet (+50%), Gloves, Main Hand, Off-Hand, Ring 1, Ring 2

Aspect of the Moonrise

Damaging an enemy with a Basic Skill grants 4%[+] Attack Speed for 10 seconds, up to 5 stacks. At maximum stacks, gain Vampiric Bloodrage for 10 seconds, increasing Basic Skill damage by [40 - 60]%[x] and Movement Speed by 15%.

Two-Handed Weapon, Amulet, Gloves, Main Hand, Off-Hand, Ring 1, Ring 2

Do not neglect the Vigor refill check as the gear improves. A larger Maximum Vigor pool increases Kepeleke's potential damage, but the Ring of the Midnight Sun refunds only a percentage of recently spent Vigor. Test the rotation on a single tough target and raise Resource Generation if Quill Volley fails to return to maximum between casts.

Skills

15/15
Quill Volley

Primary DPS: Quill Volley sends a spread of piercing feathers through enemies. With Kepeleke, full-Vigor casts become guaranteed Critical Strikes; close-range shots can hit one tough enemy with several feathers, while wider positioning covers entire packs.

Max out Quill Volley and choose Quill Command, Bonus Feathers and Vulnerable Damage. Quill Command extends the feathers' reach and makes them converge on your target, increasing Critical Strike Damage. Bonus Feathers improves coverage, while the Vulnerable upgrade helps prepare the next burst.

15/15
Ravager

Offense/Resource: Ravager adds an extra strike to your attacks and helps maintain Ferocity. With frequent Quill Volley casts, its active effect contributes a steady stream of direct hits, building Prowess for Rezoka's Rage. The Vigor bonus is extremely useful during boss fights when you need every shot to start from full resource.

Choose Flurry of Claws, Vigor Generation and Ferocity Maximum. Flurry of Claws provides Cooldown Rate while Ravager is active. Refresh the skill before a difficult pack or a long single-target damage window.

10/15
Armored Hide

Defense/Resource: Armored Hide is your emergency button when you must fight close enough for several feathers to hit. Its Block Chance works with Redirected Force and provides a way to trigger the larger Critical Strike Damage bonus after a successful Block. Passive Resolve generation also feeds Interdiction and Glynn's Anvil.

Choose Force of Nature, Barrier and Duration. Force of Nature restores Vigor and grants Unstoppable while active. The Barrier and Duration upgrades help you hold position for another Quill Volley burst.

1/15
Scourge

Control/Defense: Scourge frightens and slows nearby enemies, applies Poisoning and gives you a safer opening for the next volley. Its Poisoning helps activate Debilitating Toxins, while the Vulnerable upgrade makes the target more receptive to Quill Volley damage.

Select Hive Mind, Vulnerable and Vigor Generation. Hive Mind keeps Scourge affecting nearby enemies and adds Damage Reduction. Use it as you enter an Elite pack, then release Quill Volley while enemies are still close together.

1/15
Toxic Skin

Mobility/Resource: Toxic Skin coats enemies in Poison while letting you move freely through dangerous ground effects. It works well when you need to leave a crowded pack, reposition for the next spread of feathers and retain enough Vigor to continue attacking.

Take Skuttle Bug, Vigor Generation and Healing. Skuttle Bug lowers the Cooldown, Weakens enemies and improves Armor while Toxic Skin is active. Its additional Vigor and healing make resource-heavy encounters more forgiving.

1/15
The Protector

Ultimate/Defense: The Protector creates a guarded area where the Gorilla Spirit repeatedly smashes enemies and supplies Barrier. It is particularly useful against dangerous bosses and Elite packs where standing close enough to overlap several feathers would otherwise be risky.

Choose Canopy Shelter, Resolve Generation and Barrier. Canopy Shelter extends the area and grants Unstoppable inside it. The Resolve upgrade reinforces the defensive Aspects, while Barrier keeps you in position during your longest damage window.

Core Rotation

Activate Ravager and Toxic Skin before entering a difficult pack. Use Scourge to poison, slow and make enemies Vulnerable, then fire Quill Volley through the middle of the group. Try to begin each cast with full Vigor. The Rod spends the pool for a guaranteed Critical Strike, and Ring of the Midnight Sun helps fill it again. Continue casting as the feathers build Prowess and your Ferocity stacks improve the damage.

Against Elites and bosses, activate Armored Hide when you need to fight in close range, and drop The Protector when a longer dangerous damage window begins. The closer you can safely stand, the easier it is to land several converging feathers on a single target. Watch the Vigor bar between shots: when recovery is insufficient, refresh Ravager or use your defensive skills to gain more Vigor before committing to another heavy cast. The most valuable improvement is keeping the guaranteed Critical Strikes consistent.

Miscellaneous

Paragon Board

Start with Prodigy's Tempo. Its Cooldown interactions are useful for frequently refreshed support Skills, helping you cycle Ravager, Scourge and Armored Hide more comfortably. Next, attach In-Fighter for stronger damage while fighting near enemies. This is where the build begins to reward close positioning, especially against a boss that can take several feathers from each volley.

Continue with Convergence and Viscous Shield. Convergence supports damage scaling from the Spiritborn's mixed Spirit tags, while Viscous Shield offers additional value from the Barrier uptime provided by Gorilla, Armored Hide and The Protector. Use Starter, Prodigy's Tempo, In-Fighter, Convergence and Viscous Shield as the five-board route, prioritizing their Legendary Nodes and efficient Glyph sockets before taking distant secondary clusters.

Useful Glyphs include Menagerist, Spirit, Canny, Colossal and Talon. Focus on bonuses to Spirit Skills, direct damage, Dexterity, Maximum Life and Vulnerable targets. Talon also benefits from its Legendary Vulnerable Damage bonus. Meet each Glyph's nearby attribute requirement and prioritize efficient paths toward useful Rare nodes as your Paragon level increases.

Spirit Hall

Choose Gorilla as the Primary Spirit and Jaguar as the Secondary. Gorilla adds its Spirit tag to your Skills and provides Barrier when Gorilla Skills strike enemies. Jaguar grants extra Maximum Ferocity and helps generate stacks during kills and boss attacks. With Harmony of Ebewaka, Quill Volley gains Jaguar tagging as well, allowing the Eagle attack to benefit from Rezoka's Rage. Keep these two Hall choices consistent with the Helm and Talisman setup.

Runes

Use Yul + Tzic to invoke Concussive Stomp after spending Offering from Skills with Cooldowns. The additional Knockdown helps during close fights. For the second pair, use Zan + Kry: casting your Ultimate generates Offering toward an automatic Vortex that groups enemies for a cleaner Quill Volley. Put each Runeword pair into a valid two-socket item; they are separate activations and do not need Skill Bar slots.

Talisman

Rezoka's Rage is the preferred five-piece set. Every series of direct hits builds Prowess, increasing Cast Speed and Critical Strike Damage for Jaguar Skills. The three-piece bonus adds Dodge Chance and Damage Reduction, while the five-piece bonus extends and refreshes Prowess, improves its effects and gives Jaguar Skills stronger scaling through Ferocity. The many Quill Volley feathers and Ravager hits help keep these bonuses active in crowded fights.

Equip Berú, Fer, Linta, Mlor and Phoba of Rezoka's Rage. Add Ring of the Midday Hunt in the sixth Charm slot for a much larger Maximum Vigor pool. Favor Maximum Vigor, Ranks to Core or Jaguar Skills, Critical Strike Damage, Dexterity and defensive bonuses on individual Charms. The larger resource pool must be supported by enough Vigor Generation to keep Kepeleke's full-resource Critical Strike available.

Mercenary

Use Raheir as the hired Mercenary with Ground Slam, Raheir's Aegis, Bastion and Inspiration. His defenses make it easier to remain near bosses and land overlapping feathers. Choose Aldkin as Reinforcement with Field of Languish assigned to Quill Volley to slow dangerous enemies and reduce the damage they deal.

Final Thoughts

The Quill Volley Spiritborn becomes remarkably fluid once its three core Uniques and Vigor Generation are in place. Kepeleke and Midnight Sun provide the Critical Strike loop, while Harmony of Ebewaka, Rezoka's Rage and Resolve-based defense allow you to keep firing near dangerous enemies. It asks for careful gearing, but rewards it with fast clearing, reliable boss damage and a satisfyingly aggressive rhythm.
