Dread Claws Warlock Build for Diablo 4
A giant demon on one side, you on the other, and Dread Claws everywhere. Learn how to turn Shadowform into a storm of slashes.Dread Claws Warlock Build
Last Update: November 4, 2026
Introduction
A few shadowy claws are bad news for demons. A dozen of them tearing through the same pack is something else entirely. The Dread Claws Warlock fights at close range, ripping through enemies with rapid bursts of Abyss damage. With Enveloping Terror, the claws also erupt around your summoned Abyssal Titan. Position the demon on one side of a group and step into the other, and the same cast can threaten enemies from both directions. It is a lively, aggressive playstyle with plenty of movement between attacks.
The most important piece of equipment is Litany of Sable. It strengthens Dread Claws and fires additional claws when you gain Shadowform stacks. Multiple stacks gained at once can also produce a complete extra Dread Claws cast. Metamorphosis with Terror Demon continually grants Shadowform during its active window, while Footfalls of the Waning World turns Evade into Nether Step. Moving into the next pack therefore restores the resource needed to place another circle of claws around your Titan.
The supporting skills have practical jobs. Command Fallen summons grunts that generate Wrath, letting you continue casting after the opening burst. Profane Sentinel makes tough enemies Vulnerable, and Summon Laalish activates the powerful bonuses of Chains of Horazon. The Mastermind Shard supplies Laalish and helps your Rampage recasts apply Hex, giving Aspect of Calamity a reliable target during long fights. This combination keeps the attack focused on enemies that can actually survive several rounds of claws.
There are two things to watch in harder content: your Wrath and the distance between you and the Titan. Emptying the resource bar before Fallen grunts establish themselves interrupts your damage, and fighting too far away from the demon wastes Enveloping Terror. Bosses are especially demanding because you cannot rely on easy kills for Dread Claws cost reduction. The build becomes considerably more comfortable once Litany of Sable, Footfalls and steady Wrath recovery are available.
Pros
- Excellent Pack Damage
- Fast Movement
- Strong Critical Strikes
- Several Defensive Tools
Cons
- Needs Key Uniques
- Wrath and Positioning

Equipment
Litany of Sable is the item to obtain first. Its damage bonus applies directly to Dread Claws, and its additional casts reward frequent Shadowform generation. Prioritize the Unique effect and Ranks to Dread Claws, especially when chasing Greater Affixes. Equip it as your one-handed Main Hand weapon so a Legendary Off-Hand remains available. The weapon also gives Metamorphosis a more important offensive role: its Shadowform stacks can trigger further claw attacks while you keep casting your main skill.
Footfalls of the Waning World are next. They transform Evade into Nether Step and reduce Evade Cooldown whenever you lose or consume Shadowform. You no longer need a separate Nether Step button on your Skill Bar, freeing that slot for Command Fallen. The Shadow Recall upgrade remains valuable because Nether Step brings your Abyss summons with you. When an Elite moves away from your Titan, Evade toward it to reposition the demon before the next wave of Dread Claws.
Use Night Terror on the Amulet. Its Abyss Skill bonus scales with your Shadowform stacks and grows substantially while Stealthed, which suits Terror Demon Metamorphosis. Seed of Horazon is an optional Amulet focused on Demonology damage based on available Wrath. It can reward a larger resource pool, but frequent Dread Claws casts make that resource fluctuate. For the main setup, Night Terror provides the more direct connection between Shadowform and damage.
Three Legendary armor pieces handle the defensive problems. Aspect of Scorn goes on the Helm, providing Damage Reduction and allowing your Lesser Demons to absorb dangerous hits. Its protection has a cost: those grunts can die while shielding you, so resummon them when your Wrath income drops. Aspect of Deeper Shadows belongs on Chest Armor, increasing maximum Shadowform and Shadow Resistance. Aspect of Might goes on Pants, where Command Fallen can refresh its Damage Reduction because it is a Basic Skill.
The four remaining Aspects enhance the short-range damage pattern. Aggressive Aspect on Gloves builds damage while moving and refreshes it when you hit Close enemies. Aspect of Fathomless Dark on Ring 1 turns Shadow Resistance Damage Reduction into extra Abyss damage. Aspect of Calamity on Ring 2 raises Critical Strike Chance against Hexed enemies, while Demonic Aspect on the Off-Hand rewards the repeated Demonology hits from Dread Claws. These effects fit around all three Uniques with no overlapping equipment slots.
Look for Critical Strike Chance, Critical Strike Damage, Willpower, Maximum Life and Wrath Regeneration on suitable Legendary pieces. Shadow and Vulnerable Damage Multipliers help the core attack, while Armor and Elemental Resistances keep the close-range playstyle viable. The most valuable Greater Affixes are Ranks to Dread Claws, offensive multipliers on your weapon and off-hand, and the defensive stats needed to survive while standing beside the Titan.
Chains of Horazon
- Berú of Horazon's Chains
- Fer of Horazon's Chains
- Linta of Horazon's Chains
- Mlor of Horazon's Chains
- Phoba of Horazon's Chains
- (2) Set: Gain a bonus for each active Soul Shard demon: Ae'grom increases damage per Greater Demon Summon; Abodian grants Movement and Attack Speed; Laalish allows attacks to Execute; Valloch improves Dominance Generation.
- (3) Set: Gain 8.5% Damage Reduction for each active Soul Shard demon.
- (5) Set: Gain all Soul Shard demons and deal 200%[x] increased damage for 20 seconds after casting a Soul Shard Skill. Soul Shard Skill costs are reduced by 35%.
Litany of Sable
- Ranks to Dread Claws
Dread Claws deals [100 - 120]%[x] increased damage and additional claws fire when you gain a stack of Shadowform. Gaining more than one stack at once also casts a full Dread Claws.
Footfalls of the Waning World
- Movement Speed
Your Evade is now Nether Step and Evade Cooldown is reduced by [0.60 - 1.00] seconds when you lose or consume Shadowform stacks.
Night Terror
- Ranks to Abyss Skills
Your Abyss Skills deal [9.0 - 12.0]%[x] increased damage per Shadowform stack. This bonus is increased by 100% while you have Stealth.
Seed of Horazon
- Ranks to Demonology Skills
Your Demonology Skills deal [0.40 - 0.50]%[x] increased damage per point of Wrath available. You take [0.13 - 0.17]%[+] reduced damage per point of Dominance available.
Anathema of the Primes
Hitting enemies with a Core Skill increases the damage they take from you by [15 - 20]%[x] per Skill, up to [45 - 60]%[x]. Archfiend Demonform variants become Core Skills and cost Wrath.
For Legendary Aspects, use Scorn on Helm, Deeper Shadows on Chest Armor, Aggressive on Gloves, Might on Pants, Fathomless Dark on Ring 1, Calamity on Ring 2 and Demonic on the Off-Hand. Boots, Amulet and Main Hand are reserved for their Uniques. This layout preserves a complete set of offensive and defensive effects without competing for the same item slot.
Aspect of Scorn
Gain 15% Damage Reduction. When you would lose at least 10% of Maximum Life, Lesser Demons die to absorb up to [6 - 10]% of Maximum Life in damage each.
Aspect of Deeper Shadows
Maximum Shadowform stacks increased by [2 - 6]. Your Shadow Resistance is increased by 50%[+].
Aggressive Aspect
While moving, gain 12%[x] increased damage for 2 seconds, up to 60%[x]. Hitting Close enemies refreshes the duration.
Aspect of Might
Basic Skills grant 30% Damage Reduction for 4 seconds.
Aspect of Fathomless Dark
Your Abyss Skills deal increased damage equal to 85% of your Shadow Resistance Damage Reduction.
Aspect of Calamity
Hex increases your Critical Strike Chance against an enemy by 20%[+] per stack.
Demonic Aspect
Each hit with Demonology Skills increases the damage you deal with Demonology Skills by 3.3%[x] for 10 seconds, up to 65%[x].
A Legendary Off-Hand with Critical Strike Chance and offensive multipliers is especially useful because the repeated claw strikes build Demonic Aspect quickly. On defensive pieces, prioritize Maximum Life, Armor and Resistances over minor damage affixes. Keep Wrath Generation and Evade recovery comfortable before replacing a practical defensive roll with a small offensive improvement.
Skills
15/15Main Damage: Dread Claws with Enveloping Terror surrounds you with Abyss claws. Each cast can consume a Shadowform stack to create a second set around your most recent Greater Demon summon. Position yourself close enough to the Titan for both circles to hit the same Elite, or split the two circles across adjacent packs when clearing.
Maximize the skill and take Enveloping Terror, Ambush and Cost Reduction. Ambush improves the first hit on each enemy and can affect every claw from Stealth. Cost Reduction helps sustain packs with frequent kills; against bosses, use Command Fallen to rebuild Wrath between volleys.
1/15Resource/Defense: Command Fallen is the Basic Skill that keeps your Wrath flowing. Its Fallen Rush variant summons up to three Fallen Grunts that attack for you and generate Wrath on hit. It also triggers Aspect of Might when you cast it, providing a dependable defensive button before you enter melee range.
Choose Fallen Rush, Wrath and Dominance. Refresh your grunts when they die or when Aspect of Scorn consumes them to absorb a heavy hit. Use Command Fallen between Dread Claws casts whenever the Wrath bar is running low.
1/15Greater Demon: Rampage with Abyssal Titan provides the Greater Demon required for the additional Enveloping Terror claws. Summon it where you expect to fight, then use its Recast to move the brute under a new group or a Boss that has shifted position. The demon also benefits from the stronger automatic smashes in its Abyssal Titan variant.
Choose Abyssal Titan, Elite Hit Chance and Killstreak Damage. Rampage is a positioning tool in this configuration; Dread Claws receives the heavier skill-rank investment. Recast the Titan onto Hex targets so Aspect of Calamity is ready for the next burst.
15/15Shadowform/Burst: Metamorphosis with Terror Demon turns you into Demonform while leaving your regular Skill Bar available. During its active window, it grants several Shadowform stacks each second and allows Abyss Skills to preserve Stealth. Those multiple-stack gains are particularly valuable with Litany of Sable.
Prioritize Terror Demon, Damage Scaling and Maximum Life. Use Metamorphosis before sustained Dread Claws damage on Elites or Bosses. The Damage Scaling upgrade benefits eligible Greater Demon Skills, so it is particularly valuable when your main attack has that tag.
1/15Vulnerable/Control: Profane Sentinel places a demonic eye near the target, dealing damage and applying Vulnerable. Set it beside your Titan before attacking a stubborn Elite or Boss. The eye continues working as you reposition for the overlapping Dread Claws circles, and it helps maintain Vulnerable when enemies survive the initial hit.
Take Sentry, Single Target Damage and Wide Beam. Sentry allows several eyes at once, though you lose the ability to redirect them. Against Bosses, place fresh eyes as the fight moves so that Vulnerable remains active during your larger Shadowform windows.
1/15Soul Shard: Summon Laalish is granted through the Mastermind Shard. Its strongest purpose here is activating Chains of Horazon, which gives a large damage bonus after casting a Soul Shard Skill. Laalish also provides a separate area of control, useful when the Titan and your claws are concentrated on a dangerous pack.
Select the Blasphemous Fragment for the Mastermind setup so Recast Skills apply Hex. Refresh Laalish to maintain the Talisman damage window, then recast Rampage into the affected enemies for Hex and improved Critical Strike Chance through Calamity.
Core Rotation
Begin by summoning Fallen Grunts with Command Fallen, then place Profane Sentinel where the next Elite pack will stand. Summon Abyssal Titan into the group and cast Summon Laalish to activate Chains of Horazon. Use the Titan Recast to apply Hex and bring enemies within striking range, then activate Terror Demon Metamorphosis. Move close enough for both Dread Claws circles to connect and spend Wrath on rapid attacks while Shadowform stacks continue building.
Keep using Evade to trigger Nether Step through Footfalls of the Waning World. Its Shadowform generation feeds Litany of Sable, and Shadow Recall brings the Titan along when you cross a room. Refresh Command Fallen if your Wrath drops or your grunts disappear. During Boss fights, maintain the Vulnerable beam from Profane Sentinel, avoid walking too far from the Titan and save enough Wrath for the next Metamorphosis window. You can also stop attacking briefly to move the Titan when the target leaves both claw circles.
Miscellaneous
Paragon Board
Begin with the Starting Board and the Abyssal Glyph, then move toward Greater Hex. Its bonuses work with the Hex applied by the Mastermind Recast setup and the Vulnerable provided by Profane Sentinel. Prioritize efficient Willpower, Critical Strike Damage and Maximum Life nodes on the way to the Legendary Node. Avoid long detours for minor additive bonuses while important Glyph sockets remain unclaimed.
Take Overmind next. It rewards Abyss damage against Crowd Controlled enemies and Elites, and its stronger Elite interaction helps restore Dominance while Dread Claws are landing repeatedly. Continue with Dominion to support the Dominance spending from Rampage and your Demonology resource costs. Finish with Demonic Spicules for additional Demon-focused damage after the core Glyph routes are established.
For the five Glyphs, use Abyssal, Unbound, Demonologist, Destruction and Mastermind. Match them to efficient sockets on Starting, Greater Hex, Overmind, Dominion and Demonic Spicules according to available attribute nodes. Meet each Glyph threshold with nearby Willpower and other required stats, then spend remaining points on Critical Strike, Maximum Life and defenses suited to close-range Boss encounters.
Soul Shards
Use Mastermind Shard with Blasphemous Fragment. This grants access to Laalish and causes Recast Skills to Hex enemies. Hex raises the Critical Strike Chance provided by Aspect of Calamity, while the fragment also reduces Recast costs and cooldowns. Its bonus damage against Hexed enemies applies to Abyss Summon Skills, including your Abyssal Titan; the main Dread Claws damage is improved separately through Calamity, Shadowform and Demonology bonuses.
Runes
Igni + Lac provides an automatic Challenging Shout after sufficient Offering has accumulated from Non-Basic casts. It draws attention away from your vulnerable moments and reduces incoming damage. Cir + Que grants Earthen Bulwark, providing a Barrier during the longer battles where Fallen grunts may be lost. Que requires 500 Offering and Lac requires 600, so neither Runeword should be expected to activate after only a handful of casts. Put the pairs into separate compatible two-socket items.
Talisman
Chains of Horazon is the preferred set. The two-piece bonus gives individual benefits from your active Soul Shard demons, while the three-piece bonus adds Damage Reduction per demon. Its five-piece bonus grants all Soul Shard demons and a major damage bonus for 20 seconds after you cast a Soul Shard Skill. This is why Summon Laalish belongs in the regular rotation even when a pack would otherwise fall to Dread Claws alone.
Equip Berú, Fer, Linta, Mlor and Phoba of Horazon's Chains. In the sixth Charm slot, use Anathema of the Primes to increase the damage enemies take after being struck by Core Skills. Prioritize Abyss and Demonology Ranks, Willpower, Maximum Life and defensive affixes on individual Charms. Keep the five-piece set intact unless another complete Charm arrangement provides an equally reliable damage window.
Mercenary
Hire Raheir with Shield Charge, Raheir's Guard, Provoke and Mocking Lure. He helps hold dangerous enemies while you remain close to the Titan for overlapping claws. Choose Varyana as Reinforcement with Bloodthirst, triggered by an Ultimate Skill cast, to improve attack tempo during Metamorphosis.
Final Thoughts
The Dread Claws Warlock gets its best results by keeping three things together: Shadowform stacks, a steady Wrath supply and a Greater Demon close enough to share the target. Litany of Sable rewards Shadowform gains with extra claws, Command Fallen maintains casting resources, and Footfalls of the Waning World repositions the Titan as enemies move.
