Clash Paladin Build for Diablo 4

Clash Paladin Build for Diablo 4

The Clash Paladin is a top-tier Setup that achieves nearly total invincibility and massive amounts of Damage by stacking Resolve.

Clash Paladin Build

Last Update: May 20, 2026

Introduction

The Clash is the Paladin's most basic Skill. It strikes enemies ahead of you with your weapon. On its own, it's quite weak, as most Basic generator Skills are. However, by stacking bonuses for Basic Skills and Resolve stacks, it becomes the hardest-hitting ability in the holy Paladin's arsenal. By stacking Resolve, you will also greatly improve your survivability. In the end, you will reduce the incoming damage by 95%, which allows you to survive even the most lethal Uber Mephisto's attacks.

This setup revolves entirely around Resolve. Each stack grants you 4% all Damage Reduction, 3% chance to Block, 25% increased Armor, and x13.5% Damage for the Clash ability. By default, you can have only 8 maximum stacks, but in the final version, you will be able to reach over 70 stacks, making those bonuses absolutely insane. Another interaction with Resolve is the Juggernaut Oath, empowered by the Mantle of the Grey. It causes you to consume your Resolve to gain a massive Damage boost in return. However, to keep up those stacks, you will need a permanent uptime on the Fortress ability due to its Free Cast upgrade and rapid Resolve generation. Without it, you consume more Resolve stacks than you are able to generate. For this reason, this Build is not suitable for leveling, as it requires multiple endgame Gear pieces to play smoothly. The maximum Resolve can be increased by the special Tempered modifier, but to make it truly powerful, you will need to make it Greater through Masterworking, which can only happen on Ancestral Items. You also have to raise the Rank of your Fortress and get plenty of Cooldown Reduction

It is a lot to set up, but the results are worth it. The Clash Paladin is currently the strongest Build for this new and exciting class that can deal insane Damage and tank anything in the game, which is ideal for players who enjoy carefree gameplay. The main drawback here is the rather low mobility and poor visuals (you are using Basic attack after all!).

Pros

  • Great Damage
  • Insane survivability
  • Effortless gameplay
  • Lots of room for optimization

Cons

  • Low mobility
  • High Gear dependence

Equipment

The Shard of Verathiel doubles the Damage of your Clash but also adds quite a high Faith Cost to it. Fortunately, Clash generates a lot of Faith to counter it, and it will be free to use within the Fortress windows anyway. Another massive Damage bonus comes from the Paingorger's Gauntlets, but to activate it, you will need a source of passive non-Basic damage, such as Spirit Wolf Companion or Holy Light Aura. The Heir of Perdition is a Mythic Unique that suits almost every Build, including this one. There is no reason to use any other Helmet.

The Mantle of the Grey greatly increases the AoE granted by Juggernaut Oath, and consumes your Resolve Stacks in order to improve your Damage. The consumption is quite high, but it should be easily offset by the Fortress passive generation.

Thanks to the insane Damage Reduction from the Resolve, you can easily use the Blood-mad Idol, ideally as a Charm. If you dislike the additional Burning Damage, you can use Griswold's Opus instead.

For the Charm Set, Cathan's Righteous Will is the only viable choice. It raises your Resolve limit even further, and the Set Bonus is extremely easy to trigger for a massive Damage bonus. Try to get additional Juggernaut Skills Ranks on each Charm.

Cathan's Righteous Will

  • Phoba of the Righteous Will
  • Fer of the Righteous Will
  • Mlor of the Righteous Will
  • Linta of the Righteous Will
  • Berú of the Righteous Will

  • (3) Set: You reflect Stun and Knockback effects. Your Minimum Resolve is increased by 2 and Maximum Resolve is increased by 2 and you gain +10% Damage Reduction for each Minimum Resolve you have.
  • (5) Set: When you try to Crowd Control a worthy enemy, one that can't be Crowd Controlled, you rise to the occasion gaining 500% increased damage for 10 seconds.

Heir of Perdition

Paingorger's Gauntlets

Unique Gloves

Damaging enemies with a Non-Basic Skill cast marks them for 3 seconds. When a Basic Skill first hits a marked enemy, the Basic Skill's damage is echoed to all marked enemies, dealing x[100 - 125%] increased damage.

Shard of Verathiel

Unique 1h Sword

Basic Skills deal x [70 - 100%] increased damage but additionally cost 25 Primary Resource.

The Glynn's Anvil recently received a fix, making it the best defensive Aspect in the game. It raises your maximum Resolve and grants additional Damage Reduction for each stack. The Interdiction Aspect is also very powerful in that regard, but grants Block Chance instead. Your DPS can benefit from it, too, thanks to the Aspect of Redirected Force.

The Vanguard's Aspect offers a massive boost for your Juggernaut Skills, although it applies only to the first 3 Enemies you Hit, which is still plenty. The Juggernaut's Covenant offers a slightly lower Damage bonus, although it will be active for all your Hits regardless of the monsters hit. Finally, the Aspect of the Moonrise will increase your Attack Speed, Movement Speed, and Damage, but requires a bit of ramp-up time.

Aspect of Glynn's Anvil

Your maximum Resolve is increased by 2 and you gain [3 - 4%] Damage Reduction per Resolve.

Helm, Chest, Pants, Shield, Amulet (+50%)

Aspect of Interdiction

Gain [2 - 3%] Block Chance per Resolve stack.

Helm, Chest, Gloves, Boots, Shield, Amulet (+50%)

Aspect of Redirected Force

Gain increased Critical Strike Damage equal to x[40 - 60%] of your Block Chance. Blocking doubles this bonus for 10 seconds.

Gloves, Offhand, Shield, 1H Weapon, 2H Weapon (+100%), Ring, Amulet (+50%)

Vanguard's Aspect

Juggernaut Skills deal x[100 - 140%] increased damage to the first 3 enemies hit.

Gloves, Offhand, Shield, 1H Weapon, 2H Weapon (+100%), Ring, Amulet (+50%)

Aspect of the Juggernaut's Covenant

Consuming Resolve stacks with Juggernaut Oath grants an additional x[60 - 100%] damage.

Helm, Chest, Gloves, Boots, Shield, Amulet (+50%)

Aspect of the Moonrise

Damaging an enemy with a Basic Skill grants you +4% Attack Speed for 10 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. Upon reaching maximum stacks, you enter a Vampiric Bloodrage, gaining x[40 - 60%] Basic Skill damage and 15% Movement Speed for 10 seconds.

Gloves, Offhand, Shield, 1H Weapon, 2H Weapon (+100%), Ring, Amulet (+50%)

The crucial modifier for this Build is the Tempered Maximum Resolve, ideally Masterworked into Greater Affix on Ancestral Items, which allows it to reach 12 Maximum stacks each. It is the best affix for both offence and defense. You will also need plenty of Cooldown Reduction, roughly 40% to reach high uptime on the Fortress ability.

For raw DPS, you should prioritise Critical Strike Chance and Critical Strike Damage Multiplier. After that, focus on Attack Speed, Physical Damage Multiplier, and Vulnerable Damage Multiplier. Strength and additional Ranks for your Skills are also very good. It is important to have high Movement Speed on your Boots, as this Setup has rather poor mobility options.

Your survivability is solved by the Aspect of Glynn's Anvil alone; you don't really need any extra Armour or Resistance modifiers on your gear. To improve your defenses, you should prioritise high Maximum Life and its Recovery options. If you, for some reason, lack sustain for your Skills, try to get a bit of Faith Regeneration

Skills

Clash 15/15
Clash

Primary DPS: Clash is a very simple attack that swings your sword and shield at the enemy. It is a Basic Skill used to generate Faith, but in this setup, it also deals tons of Damage.

The Seize Them is the Build-enabling upgrade that grants x8% Damage per resolve, which ends up raising your damage 6 times. It also Pulls Enemies for better Clear Speed. The Resolve upgrade helps sustain your stacks, while the Damage upgrade simply improves your Damage.

Fortress  15/15
Fortress

Utility/Offence: The Fortress is the Build-enabling Ultimate Skill that generates tons of Resolve, up to 20 Stacks per 0.5 second, depending on the Skill Ranks. It also makes you Immune to Damage for 3 seconds. You should have it active at all times.

Pick the Rampart of Thorns or skip the upgrade completely. You might be tempted by the Barricade upgrade, since it prolongs the duration of the Fortress, but in practice, it hurts your uptime, as the Cooldown doesn't start recovering until the initial effect ends. The Free Cast and Resolve Damage upgrades are very impactful for your DPS.

Fanaticism  15/15
Fanaticism

Utility/Offence: The Fanaticism Aura improves your Attack Speed and Critical Strikes passively. Activating it causes all nearby enemies to Weaken.

The Rite of Veangence provides even more DPS for your Critical Strikes. The Extra Passive Stacks and Potency improve the effects further.

Defiance 1/15
Defiance

Utility/Def: The Defiance Aura is seemingly a defensive Aura, but thanks to its upgrade it also provides a decent boost for your offense.

The Rite of Might grants you x10% Damage at all times. The Maximum Life and Healing Bonus improve your survivability significantly, although you can also pick the Unstopable for automatic application.

Holy Light 1/15
Holy Light

Utility: The Holy Light is useful just to trigger the Paingorger's Gauntlets' unique effect, but it also restores plenty of your maximum Life upon use after a short delay.

The Rite of Mercy is a good source of Fortify. The remaining upgrades are optional. Additional Bounce is usually more useful than Additional Target, but the difference is minimal.

Consecration 1/15
Consecration

Utility/Def: The Consecration creates a healing zone around you, which also damages nearby Enemies, triggering the Paingorger's Gauntlets effect. Spend your remaining points here.

The Hallowed Ground contributes a small bonus for your Damage. The Duration improves its uptime, while the Fortify improves your defense even more.

Core Rotation

Start by placing down the Fortress, and start reducing its Cooldown with Auras via Resplendence Glyph. After that, you can simply start using Clash on any nearby enemy. For longer fights, use Consecration to ramp up your Damage some more and get passive Healing. The Paingorger's Gauntlets require weaving Damage sources, but in this setup, it is done completely automatically, so you don't have to worry about it too much. Try to move a step every two seconds, even when fighting stationary enemies, to trigger the Relentless Paragon Node.

Miscellaneous

Paragon Board

The most important Node here is the Relentless, which grants a massive bonus for your Damage and Cooldown Recovery, but requires slight movement every 2 seconds. It might be a bit annoying during longer fights, but it is very easy to upkeep during regular gameplay in practice. You will easily cap your Block Chance with the Aspect of Interdiction, so the Shield Bearer offers lots of Damage in return. Similarly, the Castle offers massive Damage based on your Armor mitigation. Thanks to the Resolve, you will have tons of Armor, and thus gain even more Damage from this stat. The Beacon offers a massive amount of Damage as well for the simple fact of running Aura, which you will use 3 of in this Build.

The Resplendence Glyph is vital for your Ultimate uptime. Remember to use your Auras only after placing down the Fortress. Another very important Glyph is the Sentinel, which grants a massive amount of Damage based on your Resolve stacks. The Honed ensures you will always have full Faith. Lastly, the Spirit and Outmatch provide the most Damage from all the remaining glyphs.

Runes

The Igni + Ceh Runeword is your only source of Vulnerable, but the wolf's attacks also trigger the Paingorger's Gauntlets effect.

The Cir + Vex is a very straightforward upgrade that grants additional Ranks for all your Skills, which is very useful for both utility and your DPS. Alternatively, you can use Que to generate Barrier for even more survivability, but it is hardly needed.

Oath

The Juggernaut is the only choice that matters here. It empowers your Damage by consuming the Resolve stacks every 5 seconds. The Mantle of the Grey makes this Oath even stronger. Thanks to the Fortress, you will have a nearly infinite amount of Resolve stacks to spend anyway.

Mercenary.

The Seeker ability used by Subo is usually the best pick, as it makes navigating through content even easier. The Cover Fire with the Opening Fire upgrade provides a decent boost for your damage output as well.

For the Reinforcements, pick the Raheir with its Bastion ability triggered by being Injured, which offers a great defensive boon in critical situations.

Final Thoughts

The Clash is easily the strongest ability in the Paladin arsenal thanks to the powerful boons granted by Resolve stacks. It is very simple, straightforward, and powerful. Obtaining DPS through stacking defense is the easiest recipe for an enjoyable Build.
