Guide notes |
June 1, 2018 -Build created June 6, 2018 -Added gameplay video September 4, 2018 -Updated to Patch 3.4 |
Traps are back with Patch 3.3! A lot of new both Active and Support Gems related to Traps have been introduced, and Shadow's part of the Skill Tree has also been slightly reworked to grant Trap bonuses on earlier levels. All this makes Traps an entirely viable choice for the Incursion League and Patch 3.3. We have decided not to focus on any of the newly added skill Gems, even though they are all reasonably powerful. Rather than that, we stick to old and proven powerful solutions, which are now even better to get along with.
This Trapper/Saboteur build is capable of clearing all the content in the game with proper gear investments; it also scales exceptionally well with end-game high Crit. gear.
You can find our other Path of Exile builds right over here Odealo's Crafty Guides - Full List
As a Trapper, your core DPS comes from Traps. Trap Support Gems allows you to throw traps that will use pretty much any supported skill or spell. When an enemy triggers such trap, the supported skill will be used. Since you can throw multiple traps at a time, and up to 11 traps can be active at once, this build provides insane burst damage. Also, Blast Rain Traps offer perfect AoE and are perfect for fighting end-game Bosses with transitions between different phases. The short pauses give you enough time to plant all your Traps which will deal insane damage when the battle continues. Also as a Trapper, you can benefit from both Point Blank and Chin Sol's unique affix, which will significantly increase the DPS at close-range, as you throw Traps directly under your enemies, personally staying in a safe distant spot.

PROS |
|
CONS |
|
Since the introduction of Patch 3.3, leveling a Trapper character is much easier. You can use Fire Trap as early as level 1 and with Trap Damage nodes available right from the start. You can switch to Explosive Trap after you reach level 12 for better radius and higher damage, and rely on powerful Trap Passives to provide high damage bonuses.
Suggested leveling Gem setups:

Fire Trap - grants decent Fire Damage to enemies in the radius. Also, Patch 3.3 has removed the internal cooldown of Fire Trap | |
