Build Overview

Sorcerer is a Class specializing in Fire, Cold, or Lightning Damage and it usually relies on Ward mechanics for defense. Static Orb Skill received a massive rework in 0.8.3 and is now one of the best Lightning Skills in the game. You cast Lightning Spheres, and by taking Orbital Fulmination these projectiles will orbit you for 5 seconds before exploding keeping you safe against enemies approaching from all directions. With Scatter Blast your AoE will cover the entire screen with high-damage orbs. The rest of your Skills are used to increase your defenses, grant mobility, and provide Mana regeneration. Use Focus to regenerate Mana and Ward, Flame Ward to Gain a lot of Ward, and Teleport for relocating and to gain powerful Buffs.

You can also view the full build on the Last Epoch planner here: Static Orb Sorcerer Build

For the defenses, this build utilizes:

  1. Ward, Elemental Damage Reduction, and Health Regen from Focus;
  2. Armor, less Hit damage taken, Ward, and Elemental Damage Reduction from Flame Ward;
  3. Armor, Resistances, and Stun avoidance from Teleport;
  4. Frozen Monolith, Armour, and Resistances from Snap Freeze;

Passive Skill Trees

mage
Mage Skill Tree (31 Points)

Notable Passives:

  1. Knowledge of Destruction [10/10] - Critical Strike is important to increase the damage you're dealing

sorcerer
Sorcerer Skill Tree (82 Points)

Notable Passives:

  1. Arcane Momentum [5/5] - grants you Arcane Momentum for more Cast Speed
  2. Distant Spark [5/5] - as you will be hitting enemies from far away with Lightning Damage this passive will be a perfect choice
  3. Rift Bolt [5/5] - Lightning Damage Leech and Lightning Penetration are a highly valuable asset

You can find a lot of Lightning Damage passives on Sorcerer Skil Tree and some general Elementalist ones on the Mage Skill Tree. Intelligence will increase the damage of your Static Orb, so it's good to have as much of it as you can afford. Lightning Spell Damage and Critical Strike are the main sources of damage, these can be found generally at the bottom of Sorcerer Skill Tree. You can consider Taking Afterglow and Lost Knowledge if your Skill costs more than 40 Mana, but it will require you to take Manacharged in Static Orb Skill Tree.

Skills

Note: Left-Clicking on any of the ability trees below will open the full-size version in a new window.

Summon Storm Crows

Static Orb - Orbital Fulmination and Scatter Blast are very important to get the orbs to orbit you, the small ones too. Static Armor is fundamental as it gives you Lightning Aegis, later needed to increase your damage with the right Idols. Open Circuit and Volatile Outburst increase the damage. You can now have up to five Orbs around you, creating a sixth or waiting for one to expire will cause it to explode dealing a lot of damage, you can time it to deal a lot of damage in a specific location by tracking the movement of your projectiles.

Static Orb

Focus

Focus - use Focus to regenerate Mana, Health, gain Armor, Ward, Haste, and Less Damage Taken. If you have already a lot of Resistances, change Prismatic Stance for Mind Shell - it will grant you more Ward. There is a lot of room to swap some passives for different ones depending on your Maximum Mana and Mana Regeneration.

Focus

Flame Ward

Flame Ward - Focus on the defensive part of this skill - the one which grants you Ward. You can find them on the right side of this Skill Tree. This setup is highly aimed for low Mana consumption, less Elemental Damage, and Damage taken from Hits, but feel free to experiment with it.

Flame Ward

Teleport

Teleport - Unexpected Copy and Decoy Position will Taunt enemies as you change your location keeping you safe if there's a group of enemies chasing you. Resonant Plasma and Crystaline Passage are defensive Buffs you gain as you use Teleport, Elemental Affinity increases your Damage, and Time Dilation makes these Buffs last longer.

Teleport

Snap Freeze

Snap Freeze - Snap Freeze is not really that important and will be rarely used, mostly to Chill and Freeze Bosses, it reduces their movement speed, attack speed, and cast speed. If you take Frozen Monolith you will be Frozen and completely immune to damage so it's a good idea to use it when you know there's an attack that you cannot dodge.

Items

Stat priority:

Intelligence, Lightning, and Spell Damage are the lines to look for for the raw damage increase. Crit Chance and Crit Multiplier are other stats that will elevate your DPS since this build relies heavily on Critical Hits. Health and Ward are used for defense, look for Endurance and Vitality. Cast Speed is great to have, with it you can cause orbs to explode faster. 300 Mana will be needed to increase your Lightning Damage from Idols. Adorned Arcane Idols of the 2x2 size granting you increased Lightning Damage while under the effect of Lightning Aegis, and doubled Lightning Damage bonus while your Mana Pool is larger than 300 are a necessity.

  1. Lightning Damage/Spell Damage
  2. Crit Chance and Crit Multiplier
  3. Health
  4. Maximum Mana - at least 300
  5. Resistances
  6. Intelligence
  7. Cast Speed
  8. Ward
  9. Armor
  10. Critical Strike Avoidance

Recommended Unique Items:

Orian's Eye

Orian's Eye - With this Amulet you won't need any Void Resistance - all the Void Damage you now take as Fire Damage, it gives you a lot of Fire Protection, 100 Mana, and up to +150% Increased Duration of Stun Immunity After Being Stunned. It's not mandatory but highly recommended.

Idols:

  • Adorned Arcane Idol (2x2) is the best Idol you can get for this build, you can have up to 4 of them
  • The Prefix "Increased Lightning Damage While You Have Lightning Aegis", and Suffix "Increased Lightning Damage (Doubled If You Have Over 300 Max Mana)" are the two best-in-slot mods for these Idols

END NOTE

This is the beta version of our Static Orb Sorcerer/Mage Build for the Last Epoch. We didn't have much time for testing, but this build already shows a lot of promise and outperforms many other End Game setups. Obviously, as the game gets new content updates, we will be updating this guide regularly, though it may be impossible to be done after each Patch.
