Last Update: October 23, 2026
Introduction

Hero: Oracle Thea
Hero Trait: Wisdom of The Gods (Thea 1)
Main Skill: Splitting Lightning Bolt
Damage: Lightning Spell Hits and forked projectiles
Season: SS14 Tartarus
Splitting Lightning Bolt Thea 1 sends branching lightning through crowded maps while her Divine Blessings strengthen every cast. Thea rewards active spellcasting, and Spell Tangle gives the projectiles a convenient delivery system: set up near an elite and let the attached spell keep firing as you move into position.
Our Season 14 version keeps Spell Tangle for the main T7-T8 setup. Two ordinary supports give way to Swift Bolt (Magnificent) and Disintegration (Noble) once the character can afford them. Both are designed for Splitting Lightning Bolt, and the fifth-slot Noble rewards the skill's remaining forks. The resulting package suits farming and extended fights, where projectiles have enough room to travel through several targets.
Thea's Wisdom of The Gods provides the other half of the build. We prioritize Agility Blessing stacks, God's Boon and Lucky Damage through Prophecy of Punishment. Intelligence, spell damage, a stronger Energy Shield pool and well-chosen Tangle gear support that direction. A full Spell Burst conversion is available later, with its own helmet and talent choices.
Pros
- Strong projectile coverage for quick Netherrealm clears
- Good boss damage growth through Blessings and specialist supports
- Tangle damage continues while Thea repositions
- Clear route into a more advanced Spell Burst setup
Cons
- Divine Blessing management takes practice
- Adding Max Focus Blessing can disrupt the selected Hero Trait interactions

1. Hero Traits and Memories
Wisdom of The Gods generates Focus, Agility and Tenacity Blessings in sequence. God's Boon consumes Focus Blessings for a temporary damage buff, making the way you raise the blessing limits especially important. Our trait route favors consistent damage and smooth projectile hits through the leveling and farming stages.

| Level | Hero Trait | How it helps |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Wisdom of The Gods | Provides the rotating Blessings and God's Boon damage window. |
| 45 | Predicted Justice | Lets the strongest Max Agility or Tenacity Blessing bonus also benefit Max Focus Blessing. |
| 60 | Prophecy of Punishment | Grants Lucky Damage and extra Max Damage when Agility and Focus Blessing stacks match. |
| 75 | Predicted Reincarnation | Improves God's Boon cooldown recovery and adds damage for the Focus stacks consumed. |
Predicted Justice is the cornerstone. Raise Max Agility Blessing through compatible modifiers; its higher maximum can feed the Max Focus Blessing bonus through the trait. Once Prophecy of Punishment unlocks, matching the current Agility and Focus stacks makes the wide damage range of Splitting Lightning Bolt more consistent thanks to Lucky Damage.
At level 75, Predicted Reincarnation improves the frequency and strength of God's Boon. For Hero Memories, prioritize relevant Wisdom of The Gods trait levels and bonuses that support the selected Agility/Focusing cycle. Hero Memories that strengthen the chosen Blessing cycle can remain useful for several tiers of Netherrealm farming.
2. Talents and Passive Tree
The four-tree structure below uses Goddess of Knowledge, Magister, Lich and Assassin. Our Tangle variant targets 101 points divided 24 / 27 / 24 / 26, developing spell damage, Energy Shield and support efficiency. The exact small-node paths depend on the order in which the major talents become available and how much defense your gear already provides.

| Talent Tree | Reference Points | Our Tangle Priorities |
|---|---|---|
| Goddess of Knowledge | 24 | Acquaintance for Dormant Entanglement and Spell Damage. Follow spell, Intelligence, Tangle and Energy Shield nodes. |
| Magister | 27 | Barrier of Radiance for stronger, more reliable Energy Shield charge. Invest spare points in Cast Speed and Spell Critical Strike. |
| Lich | 24 | Off The Beaten Track to improve support levels and their Mana multipliers. Further points support reservation, offense and recovery. |
| Assassin | 26 | Transition as our additional Hit Damage choice, with Lightning and applicable Cast Speed nodes on the way. |
Goddess of Knowledge provides a natural place to start. Acquaintance opens the Dormant Entanglement package for the attached spell setup; the surrounding nodes improve ordinary casting and Tangle performance. In Magister, Barrier of Radiance gives the Energy Shield layer a stronger footing during crowded T7 farming. These two trees carry the character through the early Netherrealm.
Lich rounds out the five-link. Off The Beaten Track adds Support Skill Levels and sets support Mana multipliers to 95%, helping the later specialist gems and the rest of the skill setup. Our final tree, Assassin, introduces Transition for occasional larger hits. Thea's Prophecy of Punishment already supplies Lucky Damage under its blessing condition, so this version has little reason to pursue another generic Lucky source.
3. Active Skills and Support Links
At T7, the main five-link is already complete. Spell Tangle occupies slot one, and the remaining supports develop Lightning damage, fork coverage and the repeated casts delivered through the attached Tangle. Stronger specialist gems enter at T8 as direct replacements for the regular third and fifth slots.
[Main DPS] Splitting Lightning Bolt
The electric projectile forks when it hits an enemy or reaches its maximum distance. It can fork twice, and Projectile Quantity improves the number of secondary bolts. Attached Tangles keep casting the spell near dangerous targets, which provides welcome freedom during busy map pulls.
Spell Tangle occupies the restricted first slot. Tangle Surge improves damage for each active Tangle. Wind Projectiles gives the bolts more speed, Electric Overload rewards repeated Lightning crits, and Grudge works alongside the Timid curse on elites and bosses. Timid and Grudge give the T7 setup a stronger answer to durable single targets.
At T8, Swift Bolt (Magnificent) replaces Wind Projectiles in slot three. Swift Bolt improves damage and Projectile Speed for each recent use of the supported skill, up to eight stacks. Its value depends on consistent casting through the Tangle setup. Keep track of the effect during longer fights, where it has the most time to build.
Disintegration (Noble) replaces Grudge in slot five. It adds Hit Damage for each remaining fork, turning the main projectile's early contact into an important damage opportunity. The performance gap between pack clearing and a lone boss may be substantial, since projectiles fork differently depending on what they meet. The Magnificent gem must remain in slot three, and the Noble belongs in slot five.
[Movement] Blink
A reliable escape from boss telegraphs and a convenient way to cross broken terrain. Reposition close enough for Tangles to attach to the enemies you want to kill. This usually feels smoother than dragging a weak projectile setup across the entire arena.
[Boss Curse] Timid
Timid increases Hit Damage taken by cursed enemies. Apply it to elites and bosses before the strongest God's Boon window, then let the Tangle projectiles keep working during movement. It also activates the Grudge bonus in the standard T7 link.
[Crowd Utility] Black Hole
Gather enemies near the target and keep the bolts forking through a tighter group. Black Hole helps on crowded maps and is a convenient tool for lining up Spell Tangles around a priority target.
[Recovery] Life Tonic
A simple emergency heal for the life-based version while Energy Shield and resistances are developing. Advanced Energy Shield characters can adjust the recovery slot to match their defenses.
4. Passive Skills and Auras
Two major damage auras are attractive on a Lightning caster, although their combined base reservation leaves no unsealed Mana. Begin with one complete offensive aura and expand when your Lich investment and support gems provide enough Sealed Mana Compensation.
[Main Aura] Electric Conversion / Precise: Electric Conversion
The first offensive aura for the Tangle version, supplying additional Lightning Damage to every suitable spell hit. Its Precise version offers a stronger bonus at the same nominal reservation.
[Second Aura] Spell Amplification / Precise: Spell Amplification
A broad Spell Damage multiplier that scales all the Lightning hits. The second large aura is an endgame goal that becomes useful when the reservation budget is solved.
[Defensive Swap] Energy Fortress
Adds maximum Energy Shield and improves the effective shield pool. Use it in the secondary 50% slot when tougher maps call for more durability. The Magister route makes a consistent Energy Shield setup a natural fit.
[Alternative] Elemental Resistance
Another practical defensive choice for encounters dominated by elemental damage. It can replace the second offensive aura while the rare gear is still fixing resistances.
5. Leveling and Recommended Progression
The campaign introduces the skill and God's Boon, while Netherrealm progression sharpens the Tangle setup. There is no reason to rush a complete Spell Burst conversion during the first profitable mapping tiers.
Campaign: Learn the Forking Projectile
Start with a comfortable early spell and unlock Splitting Lightning Bolt at level 14. Add Electric Overload, then Wind Projectiles as support slots open. Improve any weak caster weapon and keep the spell responsive. Movement Speed and basic defensive gear carry much of the early campaign.
Level 45: Predicted Justice
Take Predicted Justice and direct your blessing modifiers toward Max Agility Blessing. Watch the current Focus and Agility values during God's Boon. This is the right stage to begin collecting applicable Intelligence, Lightning damage and defensive Energy Shield bonuses.
Level 60-75: Lucky Damage and God's Boon
Prophecy of Punishment gives the blessing setup a stronger identity. Aim to match the relevant stacks during important encounters. At 75, Predicted Reincarnation helps deliver God's Boon more frequently. Complete the four-tree foundation and develop the regular Spell Tangle five-link.
Timemark 7: Build a Dependable Tangle Farmer
Use Spell Tangle, Tangle Surge, Wind Projectiles, Electric Overload and Grudge on the main skill. Timid helps against surviving elites. Add a solid defensive helmet, spell damage and enough Energy Shield to handle ordinary map hits. Improve Tangle count with appropriate jewelry when it becomes affordable.
Timemark 8: Upgrade the Main Skill
Add Swift Bolt (Magnificent) in slot three and Disintegration (Noble) in slot five. Raise spell levels and improve the weapon before committing to a whole set of perfect rare pieces. A good Tangle amulet and reliable Energy Shield are both tangible upgrades on hard maps.
Profound: Strengthen Tangles or Convert to Spell Burst
For the main version, seek better Tangle count, critical scaling, Lightning damage and safer defenses. A high-investment alternative builds around Spell Burst with Solid River, charge-speed scaling and different major talents. It changes how the main skill activates and has its own item requirements.
6. Gear Setup and Stat Priorities
Splitting Lightning Bolt is a Lightning Spell. Invest in usable Spell Skill Levels, Lightning Damage, Cast Speed, projectile coverage and critical modifiers. The equipment also needs to preserve the Agility-to-Focus Blessing interaction. For T7, ordinary rares can carry most slots while a Tangle-specific amulet or helmet adds a useful specialization.
- Elemental Resistances, Energy Shield or Life, and reliable recovery
- Spell Skill Levels and Lightning Spell Damage
- Cast Speed, Projectile Speed and useful Projectile Quantity for secondary bolts
- Relevant Tangle Quantity and Tangle Damage
- Critical Strike Rating and Damage for Electric Overload and endgame hits
- Max Agility Blessing and compatible Wisdom of The Gods bonuses
- Sealed Mana Compensation once a second large aura enters the build
Recommended Equipment

Weapons - Rare Lightning Spell Wands or Canes
Seek useful spell levels, Lightning Damage, Cast Speed and Crit. A well-rolled rare wand or cane is a strong investment on T7 because nearly every useful affix improves the main skill. Better bases and later crafted weapons can raise the ceiling substantially. Physical weapon attack damage and attack-only bonuses have little purpose on this caster.
Upgrade direction: improve the main weapon first, then compare the second slot against a defensive shield if you need Energy Shield and resistance coverage.

Helmet - Energy Shield Rare / Malign Embrace
A strong rare ES helmet is the safe default. Malign Embrace provides two additional Tangles and improves Dormant Entanglement through active Tangles, giving our Goddess of Knowledge choice an interesting late-game partner. Its drawback makes nearby enemies guaranteed to land Critical Strikes. That is a severe risk for a character with poor mitigation or inconsistent recovery.
Treat Malign Embrace as a substantial offensive commitment. It belongs on a character whose defense can cope with its drawback.

Necklace - Old Grudge / Crafted Rare
Old Grudge grants an additional Tangle, more Tangle Duration and Tangle Critical Strike Rating. It has a clear role in the T7-T8 configuration and is one of the first dedicated uniques worth comparing with a rare. A crafted necklace with levels, Lightning Damage and defenses remains useful if the Trade House price is high.

Body Armour - Energy Shield and Resistances
A rare Energy Shield chest provides protection and a convenient place to complete the resistance package. Look for a strong gear ES base, maximum ES and any useful spell-related affixes. A different body armour becomes attractive only when the rest of the equipment supports its special effect.

Gloves - Cast Speed and Defensive Rares
Use this slot to improve Cast Speed, Intelligence, applicable Lightning bonuses and missing resistances. Damage affixes become more attractive when the Energy Shield pool is already sufficient for the maps you farm.

Belt - Defensive Rare / Insulation
A rare belt with Life or Energy Shield and resistance rolls works well throughout Netherrealm. Insulation is an accessible Lightning-themed alternative, adding Lightning Damage and defenses linked to an active Defensive Skill. Choose the option that helps your character stay alive during T8 encounters.

Rings - Intelligence, Lightning and Resistance Rares
Rings can supply missing attributes, Energy Shield, Lightning damage and Cast Speed where available. Their versatility also helps keep the blessing setup intact. A small change to an attribute or Blessing modifier can alter how Thea's Hero Trait behaves, so inspect the resulting values after major upgrades.

Boots - Movement Speed and Energy Shield
Aim for comfortable movement, strong defensive rolls and resistances. A quick Blink and reasonable running speed make it easier to keep Tangles near elites while avoiding repeated boss attacks.
7. Hero Memories, Divinity Slates and Pactspirits
After the weapon, Tangle count and defensive core are established, Divinity Slates, Hero Memories and Pactspirits provide several ways to improve the character. Choose bonuses that scale the main Lightning hits and support the Agility-to-Focus blessing interaction.
Look for Wisdom of The Gods levels, appropriate God's Boon performance and beneficial Agility Blessing interactions. Verify the maximum blessing values whenever a Memory changes the hero's stack limits.
Useful nodes include Spell Damage, Lightning scaling, Skill Levels, Cast Speed and matching Tangle bonuses. An appropriate Max Agility Blessing line may also strengthen Predicted Justice.
Use practical spell damage and survival companions early. Specialized Spell Burst pets such as Squiddle become more valuable if you eventually make that full conversion.
Look for reliable debuffs and useful defense. Their contribution is most visible during longer fights, where repeated Lightning hits and curse uptime have time to add up.
The Optional Spell Burst Conversion
For players ready to rebuild the casting engine, previously mentioned Spell Burst offers another route. It requires a properly charged Burst system and a way to trigger the main spell efficiently, such as Solid River after meeting its Spell Burst Charge Speed condition. A different Goddess of Knowledge path can take Beacon for additional Max Spell Burst; Play Safe in Magister turns Cast Speed investment into faster Spell Burst charging.
Late-game items worth investigating include Brainwave Emitter for an extra Burst stack, Law of Greed for damage scaling with Max Spell Burst and a premium Lightning Resistance package with Legless Bird and Fleeting Sky. These belong to a dedicated alternative build. The Tangle configuration in this guide continues to serve T7 and T8 farming with far fewer moving parts.
Final Thoughts
Splitting Lightning Bolt Thea 1 combines powerful Lightning projectiles with a rewarding Divine Blessing mechanic. Spell Tangle delivers repeated attacks across the map, while Predicted Justice, Prophecy of Punishment and God's Boon add a distinct damage cycle. Once the skill links are complete, the most satisfying upgrades are a stronger weapon, more dependable Energy Shield and better Tangle coverage.
Our version stays with the same main spell and gradually introduces its Season 14 supports. Players who want to pursue a more involved endgame can rebuild around Spell Burst later, taking the talent and equipment changes together.
