Retaliation Golem Necromancer Build for Last Epoch

Retaliation Golem
Necromancer/Acolyte Build

Updated for Patch 1.0

-Updated for Patch 1.0

Build Overview

Bone Golem can serve a variety of different functions, but in this build, it's used as the main damage source. It has a significantly improved chance to retaliate with Bone Nova and enhanced its effectiveness. Bona Nova is triggered only when the Golem gets hit, so to maximize the DPS output, it will be your character who hits it - with customized Rip Blood that will cause other positive effects. That's why Cast Speed is so important. To further increase the Damage output, it is recommended to use Dread Shade with Egoism, to make the Golem always hit with a Critical Strikes, Bone Curse, to cast it on Golem and increase its damage and utility, and Transplant - which is mainly used for increased Cast Speed and Bone Armor buff. For the Golem to sustain all the damage it is receiving it will be necessary to allocate Necromancer's River of Bones passive, it will make the Minions leech life from Critical Strikes, which is certain to happen with every Hit due to the already mentioned Egoism.

 Pros
The build is quite tanky due to the Bone Armor from Transplant, Health and Vitality from passives, and Health from Rip Blood and its passives.
It doesn't require expensive items, most of them are extremely common. It has excellent damage and good survivability for its price.
Cons
The build requires good positioning and relies just on one minion which might be troublesome.

Passive Skill Trees

acolyte
Acolyte Skill Tree (22 Points)
On the Acolyte Skill Tree, we've selected the most basic nodes for Vitality, Intelligence, Necrotic Resistance, and Dark Rituals with Soul Aegis for Minion-related Bonuses - Damage and Armour. Bone Golem will grow in damage and Health with Intelligence.
lich
Lich Skill Tree (10 Points)
Intelligence will be important later on, Mana Regen is also desirable. Both of these can be found on Lich's Apocrypha passive.
necromancer
Necromancer Skill Tree (80 Points)
Golem's own Attack or Cast Speed is not important, his only purpose is to cast Bone Nova by being Hit, that's why you don't need to focus on Minion stats, besides only Critical Strike Multiplier, Health, and Damage. It leaves a lot of room for defensive improvements to your own character, such as Health and Resistances. The Bone Nova is a Spell dealing Physical Damage and there are not a lot of ways to increase its base damage, but you can find it as Moonlight Pyre passive. Armor Shred Chance from Aegisfall is one of the best improvements to the build, it increases your damage output substantially. River of Bones is arguably the most important passive, it enables your Golem to leech life from every hit. Blades of the Farlorn and Heresy increase Minions' Critical Strike Multiplier and Intelligence, very important.

Skills

Note: Left-Clicking on any of the ability trees below will open the full-size version in a new window.

Summon Bone Golem

Summon Bone Golem - It's the main damage source in the build. It summons a Bone Golem which has a small chance to retaliate with Bone Nova.

Obviously, you want to go for the Bone Hail, Flight of the Femurs, and Betrayal - it's a core element of dealing damage with Bone Nova. Tower of Bones with Amalgam of Sentinels are used to protect you from enemies and enhance the Golem. The remaining points can be spent on defensive and offensive nodes nearby.

Summon Bone Golem

Rip Blood

Rip Blood - Rip Blood is the Spell used to Hit your Golem and cause him to retaliate with Bone Nova. In its base form, it's a very simple Spell that drains some Health from enemies.

To target your Minions instead, you will need to allocate Marrow Drinker. Nearby nodes are useful too, they grant you more Health and Mana. Rip Spirit is here only to make the Spell Necrotic, which will be great if you plan to use the Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros Item. Path your way to Blood Infusion for increased Minion Damage, and spend the remaining points on Hemomancer for more Cast Speed.

Rip Blood

Dread Shade

Dread Shade - This is a skill that buffs your Minions' Necrotic Damage and drains their Health. In this setup, it won't drain Health nor give an aura-type buff.

The most important here is Egoism. It ensures that all damage dealt by affected Minions is Critical. We recommend getting it via the Vile Ghast path to keep the Aura. Symbiotic Apparition will make the Dread Shade's Aura affect your character as well, and the reason for that is Dying Coven and Blind Fury - it grants much more Cast Speed. The remaining points can be spent on increasing the Area of Effect.

Dread Shade

Transplant

Transplant - Transplant Teleports your character at the cost of some of your Health instead of Mana.

Use this skill to gain Bone Armor and to enhance the effectiveness of you and your Minion for a short time after being cast. Bone Armor, Apostasy, and Plated Bone are all the components of the Bone Armor which grants you Armor and reduces damage taken for a short time. Last Laugh increases Minion's Damage. Acolyte's Fervour grants you more Cast Speed for four seconds. Pale Blood restores some of your Mana on use.

Transplant

Bone Curse

Bone Curse - Bone Curse normally is cast on enemies to make them take Physical Damage, but in this setup, it's used to enhance the Bone Golem.

Pick up Merciless for the ability to target your Minions instead, and aim at your Golem with it every four seconds. Spiked Bones will make the Golem Reflect the Damage to enemies when Hit. Barbed Construct makes all the buffs have a 200% increased Effect on Bone Golem. Don't put more than two points into Chilblains, your chance to Chill will be 100% due to the Blades of the Farlorn passive. Signet of Agony is optional. You will lose your Mana over time and will need to stand close to your Golem, but you won't have to cast it, and it will grant you Cast Speed.

Bone Curse

Items

Stat priority:

None of the unique items are mandatory, the build works well without any of them. but Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros introduces some interesting changes that will affect your Rip Blood setup.

All your Skills scale with Intelligence and so you should gather as much of it as you can. For survivability, we recommend the usual Health and Resistances. If your Golem dies, try to gather stats increasing his Health. One of the most efficient ways to increase DPS is to get more Cast Speed to cast Rip Blood Faster. Remember that your Minion already has 100% Critical Strike Chance, and gaining more of it is pointless.

  1. Intelligence
  2. Health
  3. Cast Speed
  4. Resistances
  5. Minion Damage (Spell, Physical, Critical Multiplier)
  6. Minion Health
  7. Armor

Recommended Unique Items:

Ribbons of Blood
  • +(28-45)% Fire Resistance
  • (28-45)% increased Fire Damage
  • (7-10)% increased Health
  • (2-4)% of Melee Minion Damage Leeched as Health on Hit
  • (20-40)% Minion Increased Leech Rate
  • +(4-7) Melee Physical Damage for Minions
  • Your Minions cannot be Crit

Ribbons of Blood - Grants Fire Resistance, increases Health, Leech Rate, and makes your Minions take no extra damage from Critical Strikes making them sturdier. Definitely useful if the Bone Golem dies too often.

Death Rattle
  • (5-35)% increased Minion Damage
  • (5-35)% increased Minion Critical Strike Chance
  • +(35-65)% Minion Critical Strike Multiplier
  • +(5-10) Intelligence
  • Your minions take (10-30)% increased damage
  • Regain 30 health on minion death
  • +1 to Sacrifice

Death Rattle - It can be potentially good, just be sure that the granted Critical Multiplier Bonus for your Golem is high, and the increased damage taken is low. It provides you with Intelligence, Minion Damage, and not much else.

Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros
  • (12-20)% increased Health
  • (5-8)% of Current Health converted to Ward when you directly cast a Necrotic Spell
  • (5-8)% of Current Health converted to Ward when you directly cast an Elemental Spell
  • +1 to Necrotic Spell Skills
  • +1 to Elemental Spell Skills
  • +(02-16) Strength
  • (10-16)% increased Cast Speed

Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros - If your Rip Blood skill has the Rip Spirit passive, it will make it Necrotic, applying the bonuses of Twisted Heart of Uhkeiros. It will convert your Health to Ward on each cast, while also increasing your Cast Speed. One of the best items you can get, definitely recommended.

Idols:

On your Idols, you will need only Health and some other minor defensive stats. The Large Immortal Idol (1x3) can get you a lot of Health and a small chance to cause "Marked for Death" on each Minion Hit, get at least one such Idol.

Mandatory mods:

  • Minion Chance To Apply Mark For Death On Hit

Other recommended mods:

  • Increased Minion Damage
  • Increased Health/ % Health
  • Resistances

Recommended Blessings:

  • The Black Sun Timeline has some defensive Blessings - Echo of Solarum for Void Resistance and Memory of Light for extra Health.
  • From The Age of Winter, you can obtain Bulwark of the Tundra for increased Armour, Protection of Heorot for Cold Resistance, and Resolve of Grael for Physical Resistance,
  • Spirits of Fire Timeline is also abundant with defensive Blessings: Body of Obsidian for extra Armour, Heart of the Caldera for Fire Resistance, and the one we recommend: Spirit of Command that increases Minions' Damage
  • From the Reign of Dragons, you can get Dream of Eterra for Necrotic Resistance, Persistence of Will for Poison Resistance, Resolve of Humanity that improves all resistances, and Survival of Might for Critical Strike Avoidance
  • In Ending the Storm you're able to obtain Bastion of Divinity for Lightning Resistance and Rhythm of the Tide for increased Health Regeneration

END NOTE

This is the beta version of our Assemble Abomination Necromancer Build for Last Epoch - presumable the most powerful Minion Build in the game (and possibly overall best as well). We didn't have much time for testing, but this build already shows a lot of promise and outperforms many other End Game setups. Obviously, as the game gets new content updates, we will be updating this guide regularly, though it may be impossible to be done after each Patch.
