This is our second Fallout 76 Tank build. This build utilizes Power Armor for massive defensive utility and Heavy Guns to deal very damage in close and mid-range, removing the necessity to chase down every single enemy. This build also provides a quite comfortable playstyle for solo players, instead of making you look for a team as soon as you enter a new game.
Below you will find all the recommended Perks for this build. We are also including brief introductions to this build's equipment options, recommended Chems, and Consumables, and beneficial mutations you can consider keeping.

SPECIAL Attributes and Perk Cards
STRENGTH [14 POINTS] |
Take 45% less damage from your opponents' melee attacks Gain +60 damage resistance while firing a heavy gun Your non-explosive heavy guns now do +20% damage Your non-explosive heavy guns now do +20% damage Your non-explosive heavy guns now do +15% damage |
Strength is a very important SPECIAL attribute in this build. It increases your maximum carry weight which will help you carry more ammo for the Heavy Guns that you are using, as well as it grants two extremely important defensive Perks - Blocker and Bullet Shield |
PERCEPTION [4 POINTS] |
You now gain +40 Energy Resistance |
Perception is the least since you are not going to use V.A.T.S. at all. However, we recommend taking the Refractor Perk for some extra defenses |
ENDURANCE [15 POINTS] |
Gain a total of +45 to your maximum Health Chance of catching a disease from creatures is reduced by 90% +50 Radiation Resistance. Gain improved Health regen between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. There's no chance you'll get addicted to alcohol |
Endurance is the most important attribute for this build. It increases your maximum Health, Health regeneration and increases your resistance to radiation and diseases |
CHARISMA [6 POINTS] |
Gain 12 Damage & Energy Resist (max 36) for each teammate, excluding you Reduce your target's damage output by 10% for 2 seconds after you attack Positive mutation effects are +25% stronger if teammates are mutated too |
Charisma is important for team play. It grants a very high defensive bonus when playing in a team, which is critical for this build |
INTELLIGENCE [3 POINTS] |
While below 20% Health, gain 30 Damage Resist, 15% damage and 15% AP regen. |
Nerd Rage gives you insane bonuses when triggered. It will save your Life countless times |
AGILITY [3 POINTS] |
Avoid 30% of incoming damage at the cost of 30 Action Points per hit |
Agility grants a nice defensive bonus at the cost of Action Points. Since you don't need much AP in combat (you are stationary and you don't use V.A.T.S. or Power Strikes) it shouldn't be a nuisance for you |
LUCK [11 POINTS] |
15% bonus damage means enemies may explode into a gory red paste Gain an 18% chance to deflect back some of enemies' ranged damage While below 30% health, gain a 45% chance to avoid damage You will never mutate from rads and Radaway will never cure mutations |
Luck is another important attribute in Fallout 76. It affects almost every action you take. It grants a number of very important Perks. Serendipity and Ricochet are extremely powerful Perks for a Tank, and Starched Genes allows you to keep your beneficial mutations forever |
Equipment
ARMOR: Power Armor is mandatory for this build. It grants terrific damage and energy resistances, bonus Strength and additional carry weight WEAPON: You can use any Heavy Weapon depending on your personal preference. One of the weapons I would recommend for this build is the Light Machinegun as it uses .308 Ammo which is easiest to farm and you start looting it right after the game. Also, Anti-Armor, Furious, and Never Ending are very useful Legendary weapon modifiers you should look out for CHEMS: Med-X (DMG Resist +25) and Psycho (DMG Resist +25, Damage increased by 15%) are the two best Consumables you can use. Also, we recommend resupplying your Whiskey stash. |
Mutations
Mutations can be a great addition to any build. Especially if you manage to get Herd Mentality you should prioritize getting the Starched Genes Perk which will prevent you from removing the beneficial mutation with Rad-Away
