Torchlight: Infinite Best Builds Tier List

Torchlight: Infinite Best Builds Tier List

One clear frontrunner, plenty of contenders. Our Tartarus build tier list weighs mapping, bossing, and the cost of getting there.

Torchlight: Infinite Build Tier List
Season 14 Tartarus

Last Update: October 20, 2026

Introduction

Four days into Tartarus, one Hero Trait has stolen the spotlight: Youga 3. The Clockwork Core already delivers exceptional damage with several spells, while established attackers such as Erika and Rehan remain formidable routes through Netherrealm. Beneath the headline pick, the season offers a healthy spread of cold casters, damage-over-time specialists and summoners.

This Season 14 tier list compares 20 specific Hero Trait and main-skill setups, with an emphasis on practical mapping, boss progression and the currency needed to make each build work. Variants on the same Hero appear only when they bring a substantially different approach. The tiers describe an early-season all-round assessment, not a controlled damage leaderboard.

Early-season (October 20, 2026): placements combine official balance changes, published build paths, creator consensus and early player reports from Tartarus. Previous-season endgame rankings are useful context, not proof of this season's results.

How We Rank the Builds

A fast league starter and an expensive boss specialist solve different problems. Our overall order favors builds that make meaningful progress before extreme investment and still have a convincing route into harder content. A build's ceiling matters, but so do its defenses and the cost of unlocking that ceiling.

Mapping PaceCoverage, mobility, downtime and the ability to repeat profitable Netherrealm layouts.
Bossing & ScalingSustained damage, realistic mechanics uptime and how far the build can grow.
SurvivabilityReliable defenses when Tartarus encounters interrupt an ideal damage rotation.
Starting Cost Early progression on ordinary gear, dependence on uniques, and the current premium on popular items.

S+ Tier is reserved for the clearest early-season standout. S Tier contains the strongest proven alternatives and other builds with convincing paths through Netherrealm. A Tier is powerful but more specialized, more expensive or less thoroughly validated in Tartarus. B Tier holds viable choices with a steeper investment curve or less consistent performance. These tiers can change as the season matures.

S+ Tier - The Early-Season Standout

The strongest overall recommendation right now. This placement reflects Youga 3's exceptional early reports and the popularity of Homing Frost Bolt, not a claim that every Youga variant has been benchmarked against every other build.

Youga 3 - Homing Frost Bolt

The Ultimate One · Clockwork Core caster

Best for: Starter to high-endInvestment: Medium → high

The new Clockwork Core is the defining toy of Tartarus, and Homing Frost Bolt makes its appeal immediately obvious. Send the Core into a pack and seeking projectiles pick up targets while Youga stays mobile. The result is a remarkably fluid mapping character, even before the build has its expensive pieces.

Against bosses, careful Core placement keeps projectiles on target when the arena gets hectic. Players are already reporting exceptional progression with The Ultimate One, including early SS20 success, though those reports are not controlled comparisons. Its popularity has also made specific late-game items painfully expensive.

S Tier - Best Season 14 Builds

Behind Youga 3's headline setup sit the season's strongest established routes: fast attackers, durable cold builds and a straightforward caster starter. Their strongest selling point is that players can already follow concrete progression guides.

Erika 1 - Thunder Spike

Wind Stalker · Fast attack farmer

Best for: Speed mappingInvestment: Medium → high

Erika makes repeated Netherrealm runs feel like a sprint. Thunder Spike is one of the best-documented Wind Stalker routes, with a full progression path from early leveling to geared farming. Other lightning attack variants exist, but this placement is for Thunder Spike specifically, not a compulsory switch to another main skill.

A fast character still needs to kill on contact. Keep weapon damage and appropriate attack scaling ahead of flashy movement upgrades, then fix your defenses as elite packs begin surviving the first engagement. The build has a long record of successful progression, which gives it a firmer foundation than many brand-new theorycrafts.

Rosa 2 - Frost Spike

Unsullied Blade · Cold attack / Mercury

Best for: Long-term all-rounderInvestment: Medium → high

Rosa is built for players who enjoy feeling their character grow heavier and harder to stop. Frost Spike drives the attack loop, while Unsullied Blade adds the Mercury and Mana decisions that separate this setup from a plain cold melee character. Its strongest versions combine sustained damage with a substantial defensive foundation.

The new season adjusted several of Rosa's familiar tools, so the campaign-to-endgame route matters more than an old showcase. Begin with a practical Frost Spike setup, then build toward the Mana and Mercury package your chosen version actually uses. She earns a high placement for the complete character she can become, not because every early rare item immediately feels amazing.

Rehan 2 - Frost Spike

Seething Silhouette · Mobile cold attacker

Best for: Boss rushing / progressionInvestment: Low → high

Rehan brings the aggression. With Frost Spike handling both packs and priority targets, his Seething Silhouette setup can push through early Netherrealm at an impressive pace. Spiral Strike and other movement tools give the character the momentum needed to chase bosses from one attack window to the next.

Cold conversion and Frostbite scaling define the damage package. A serviceable weapon gets this archetype moving; specialized late-game gear can take it much further. The danger is familiar to melee players: stepping into a boss mechanic for one more hit can erase all the time gained from faster clears.

Selena 1 - Wilting Beam

Sing with the Tide · Erosion DoT caster

Best for: Starter / steady mappingInvestment: Low → medium

Selena's Wilting Beam offers a calmer route through Tartarus. Erosion damage keeps eating through enemies as you move to the next safe position, and Reap becomes increasingly relevant once fights last longer. This is a welcoming caster for anyone who prefers repeatable results over a mechanically frantic opener.

Getting the damage-over-time component right is the key to progression. Prioritize modifiers that benefit the actual Erosion effect, improve uptime, and give yourself enough recovery to channel safely. Direct-hit bonuses that look impressive on paper may barely help the part of the skill doing most of the work.

Youga 3 - Hound's Fangs

The Ultimate One · Physical / cold Core variant

Best for: High-ceiling specialistInvestment: High

The same new Hero Trait can play very differently when Hound's Fangs replaces the cold homing spell. Physical Trauma and cold-oriented variants are both being explored, drawing on different Core branches and carefully matched support skills. This is one of the most intriguing high-ceiling directions in the season.

The catch comes at the Trade House. Exact damage conversion, equipment affixes and the chosen Hero Memories matter, and it is easy to purchase gear that belongs to a completely different Youga 3 setup. Strong endgame potential earns this build a place near the top, but Homing Frost Bolt has the clearer general-purpose entry route.

Budget warning: Youga 3 is attracting enormous attention. The Hero Trait itself has strong early power, but premium, build-specific items may carry a heavy market premium. An established Erika or Selena starter can be a wiser choice if your currency is limited.

A Tier - Best Season 14 Builds

Excellent options with a specialized strength, steeper gearing needs or less current-season evidence than the leaders. Several of these have a remarkable endgame history; that does not automatically make them the most efficient Tartarus starters.

Erika 1 - Corrosive Throw

Wind Stalker · Projectile attack farmer

Best for: Starter / rapid mapsInvestment: Low → medium

Corrosive Throw is the economical way to enjoy Erika's restless rhythm. Quick projectiles, constant repositioning and a clean attack loop make it a strong candidate for your first stretch of currency farming. The skill feels lively even before premium equipment enters the picture.

Its limitations emerge against tougher encounters. Work on the relevant projectile and attack modifiers, keep your weapon competitive, and preserve enough defenses for maps where monsters survive your opening volley. Erika's better-known Thunder Spike route may scale differently, but Corrosive Throw deserves its own recommendation as a coherent starter.

Gemma 2 - Chromatic Shot / Cold Tangle

Frostbitten Heart · Cold projectile caster

Best for: Mapping / controlInvestment: Medium

Gemma fills the screen with cold projectiles and buys herself breathing room through Frostbite and freezing effects. Chromatic Shot with a matching Cold Tangle direction brings broad coverage to crowded Netherrealm layouts, giving the build an appealing balance of offense and control.

Its strongest gear has to tell a consistent elemental story. Match the spell, Tangle and supports to cold scaling, then find enough boss damage for enemies that cannot be comfortably frozen. Players have continued to recommend Gemma 2 this season, particularly to those who want a classic spellcaster with a good defensive feel during mapping.

Iris 2 - Erosion Magus

Vigilant Breeze · Merging Spirit Magi

Best for: Comfort mappingInvestment: Medium → high

Iris fights through her Spirit Magi, but Vigilant Breeze adds a twist: merging changes how the summons deliver their stronger abilities. Erosion Magus can turn that into wonderfully smooth farming once the core sustain loop is established. Many players appreciate that the build can keep moving through content with limited button spam.

Start on more accessible Magi, then transition when your Erosion version has its required traits and recovery. A merge that leaves the Magus starved of Life quickly collapses, no matter how much minion damage appears on the character sheet. This is a comfortable long-term build with a technical setup phase.

Selena 2 - Frost Terra

Dance of the Deep · Automated cold DoT

Best for: Relaxed mappingInvestment: Medium → high

Few setups make farming feel as effortless as Frost Terra Selena. Once her free Terra activation and movement interactions are online, the damaging area travels along with the character. Whole packs disappear during the simple act of crossing a map.

That comfort has a price. Dance of the Deep received reductions in Season 14, and climbing from early Timemarks into the hardest content calls for a more deliberate damage plan. Dedicated progression guides still support the build, but its reputation from earlier seasons deserves a small discount when comparing raw power.

Bing 2 - Lightning Beam

Creative Genius · Technical spell setup

Best for: Boss progressionInvestment: Medium → high

Bing is the tinkerer of this list. Lightning Beam asks for carefully arranged interactions and rewards players who enjoy tuning a spell setup until it clicks. Season 14 guides document this direction and its potential scaling, yet public reports do not establish the same early dominance as the S Tier favorites.

This is not the simplest character to copy from a screenshot. Skill behavior, cast interactions and the supporting gear need to belong to the same version. Once assembled, the build offers an engaging route for players who find straightforward projectile spam a little dull.

Thea 1 - Splitting Lightning Bolt

Wisdom of The Gods · Blessing-focused caster

Best for: Active spell playInvestment: Medium

Lightning ricochets through Thea's packs while Divine Blessings give her the extra layer of timing that experienced spellcasters enjoy. Wisdom of The Gods makes this more than a familiar lightning-skill template: useful Blessing uptime is part of the offensive rhythm.

The trait received attention around the Tartarus launch, and Splitting Lightning Bolt supplies a direct progression route. Improve spell and applicable projectile scaling together, then judge your boss damage under real movement conditions. Thea offers plenty of control to the player, though the additional mechanics are not everyone's idea of a relaxing farm.

Youga 2 - Mind Control

Spacetime Elapse · Erosion DoT / automation

Best for: Budget starterInvestment: Low → medium

Youga's older trait still has a useful place in Tartarus. Mind Control establishes a steady Erosion-focused progression path, supported by channeling and time-related mechanics. The playstyle is gentler on the hands than a fast attack build and gives the character a dependable foundation for farming currency.

The explosive endgame showcases built around Fallen Star are a separate investment direction, with different requirements. For this entry, the recommendation is the established Mind Control setup: build DoT damage, recovery and comfortable uptime first. Its ceiling is less eye-catching than Youga 3's best experiments, but its accessibility is a genuine strength.

Sage 1 - Elixirs / summons

Licorice Note · Defensive high-end hybrid

Best for: Endgame progressionInvestment: High

Sage had one of the strongest high-end records in Afterlight, especially once Elixir interactions and a mature defensive setup came together. That legacy still makes Licorice Note interesting for players who love methodical gear progression; it does not establish an SS14 first-week victory. The Tartarus nerfs hit several of Sage's strongest interactions.

This is a seasoned player's project. Tartarus changes reduced some of its old advantages, and the starter experience does not reflect what a finished version can accomplish. It stays in A for established endgame potential, while easier characters will generally reach profitable farming sooner on a fresh budget.

Rehan 2 - Spectral Slash

Seething Silhouette · Endgame melee conversion

Best for: High-investment bossingInvestment: High

Spectral Slash gives Rehan an alternative destination once his character has grown beyond the first Frost Spike farming loop. Seething Spirit interactions open a more specialized damage pattern, and the finished melee setup can concentrate frightening pressure on difficult targets.

The switch is about more than changing a gem. Weapons, supports and other offensive assumptions need rebuilding around Spectral Slash, so a successful Frost Spike farmer is often the best way to finance it. Pick this variation if the late-game boss chase is the attraction; newcomers will find the other Rehan entry easier to follow.

Bing 1 - Lightning Shot Bombs

Blast Nova · Automated projectile bombs

Best for: Geared mappingInvestment: High

Bing 1 has a formidable endgame reputation from Afterlight, where Blast Nova converted projectile attacks into waves of automated bombs. A Lightning Shot setup can turn well-geared farming into a steady cascade of explosions, and the trait retains an appealing low-input style once established.

Its Season 14 position comes with a sizeable asterisk. Much of the spectacular performance predates Tartarus, and the early player reports are thinner than for Youga, Erika or Rehan. Survivability can also lag behind the damage, especially with high-end Dexterity stacking. It belongs on a list of promising expensive specialists, but not among the safest new-season starters.

Important distinction: the two Erika 1 entries and two Rehan 2 entries represent separate skill setups. Follow the skill links, supports and damage scaling for your exact version.

B Tier - Best Season 14 Builds

Capable specialists whose appeal lies in a particular playstyle, not the shortest route to power.

Erika 3 - Spectral Slash

Vendetta's Sting · Specialized melee attacker

Best for: Experienced playersInvestment: High

There is a sharp-edged version of Erika that trades Wind Stalker's established farming route for a demanding Spectral Slash setup. It can be exhilarating once the character has enough attack scaling and defenses to stay in the fight.

The trouble starts well before that point. Community discussions repeatedly describe the investment needed to make Vendetta's Sting comfortable, especially on a fresh character. A dedicated Season 14 guide exists, but it remains a specialist's choice with a steeper route to consistent results.

Carino 3 - Blazing Bullet

Zealot of War · High-investment marksman

Best for: Projectile boss buildsInvestment: High

Carino's Zealot of War gives projectile enthusiasts a focused long-range project. Blazing Bullet delivers an appealing marksman rhythm and can develop into serious damage when the weapon, projectile scaling and trait choices align.

Its early economy is not particularly forgiving. A mediocre gun makes every boss feel longer, while copying a finished Profound setup can mean buying several expensive pieces before the build begins to resemble the showcase. Treat this as a rewarding second character or a deliberate passion project.

Moto 2 - Synthetic Troop Self-Destruct

Charge Calling · Explosive mechanical minions

Best for: Fun / specialist mappingInvestment: Medium → high

Moto fills the arena with disposable machinery. Charge Calling turns Synthetic Troops into a chain of explosions, and few builds on the list can match the theatrical pleasure of watching an entire pack vanish beneath your own robotic army.

Against a long boss fight, the troop generation cycle becomes the real test. Summons must arrive, reach their target and detonate often enough to sustain pressure. Season 14 balance changes and the cost of specialized support leave this below the more dependable all-purpose builds, though it remains a fantastic change of pace.

Youga 1 - Chain Lightning

Spacetime Illusion · Classic lightning caster

Best for: Established nicheInvestment: Medium → high

Not every Youga player wants a Clockwork Core. Spacetime Illusion with Chain Lightning keeps the older, more conventional spell style alive, chaining hits between nearby targets and growing into a capable specialist with the right support package.

The modern alternatives have a clearer early-season case. Chain Lightning needs careful investment to match their clear speed and boss performance, and its strongest reports often come from highly developed characters. The build is viable, entertaining and familiar — just no longer the natural first stop for a player chasing the easiest Tartarus progression.

Final Thoughts

Youga 3 has earned top billing in the opening days of Tartarus, with Homing Frost Bolt leading our overall recommendations. Erika 1, Rehan 2, Rosa 2 and Selena 1 remain excellent choices through very different routes, while several established characters have more to prove after the season's balance changes.

Pick the build you can afford to finish, then follow its actual skill and Hero Trait progression. A smooth Timemark farm is worth far more than an ambitious endgame setup sitting half-built in your inventory.
