From new skills and synergies to redesigned mechanics like Curses, Auras, or Summons, each class has received meaningful updates that impact both leveling and endgame performance.

Amazon Class
The Amazon in Project Diablo 2 offers much higher build diversity compared to the original game, with meaningful buffs to Passive skills, summons, and underused abilities. Multiple playstyles are now viable, including Bow, Javelin, and Summon-based builds.
One of the most important changes is the rework of Passive and Magic Skills. Stats like Penetrate, Pierce, and Critical Strike now scale more effectively and directly impact overall DPS. Valkyrie has been significantly buffed—it can summon up to 3 units (at levels 20/30), has improved AI, increased speed, and uses skills like Power Strike, making it a core part of many builds.
In the Bow tree, several skills were rebalanced:
- Multi-Shot → reduced mana cost, but heavily reduced range
- Magic Arrow → fires an additional projectile every 10 soft points
- Exploding Arrow → increased AoE, now triggers on Pierce
In the Javelin tree:
- Impale removed, replaced by Javelin and Spear Mastery (damage + crit scaling)
- Fend reduced from 10 → 5 hits (more consistent)
- Lightning Fury capped at 10 bolts, with adjusted damage
Overall, PD2 shifts Amazon away from a few dominant builds into multiple viable archetypes, including strong Bow builds, Lightning Javazons, and newly enabled Summon (Valkyrie/Decoy) setups.
Assassin Class
The Assassin in Project Diablo 2 retains her hybrid playstyle but benefits from targeted buffs to underused skills and improved scaling across all three trees: Traps, Shadow Disciplines, and Martial Arts. While not fully reworked like some classes, several key changes make more builds viable.
In the Traps tree, new and improved skills increase overall damage and clear speed:
- Chain Lightning Sentry (new skill, lvl 30) → powerful Lightning trap with chaining projectiles
- Fire Blast → gains additional projectiles every 4 soft points (up to 6 total)
In the Martial Arts tree, gameplay is smoother and more consistent:
- Dragon Talon → capped at 3 kicks (less clunky, more reliable DPS)
- Blade Fury → now has 100% weapon damage, benefits from Attack Speed, and gains Pierce
- Works well even with 2-handed weapons (no penalty)
In Shadow Disciplines, utility and survivability were adjusted:
- Fade → nerfed (lower damage reduction)
- Cloak of Shadows → now has a fixed duration
- Psychic Hammer → massively buffed damage + added synergies
Overall, PD2 improves Assassin’s consistency and opens up more viable builds, especially Trap builds (Lightning/Fire) and Blade-based setups, while maintaining her fast, tactical playstyle.
Barbarian Class

In the Combat Skills tree, several abilities were improved:
- Whirlwind → now grants +4% Movement Speed per soft point, improving clear speed
- Leap / Leap Attack → now deal AoE damage on landing, greatly improving mobility and clearing
- Concentrate → moved to level 12, now converts Physical Damage to Magic
In the Warcries tree, new utility and support options were added:
- Grim Ward (new skill) → grants Damage and Attack Rating bonuses to allies
- War Cry → now has scaling AoE, but stun removed
- Warcries overall are more impactful for both solo and party play
In Combat Masteries:
- General Mastery (new) → affects Swords, Axes, and Maces
- Polearm + Spear Mastery merged into one skill
Other notable changes:
- Bash → now requires a 2-handed weapon
- Multiple skills repositioned in trees for better leveling flow

Druid Class

In the Summoning tree, minions now provide additional utility:
- Carrion Vine / Solar Creeper (Scholar) → grant AoE healing or mana recovery when consuming corpses
- Grizzly → now summons an additional bear, greatly increasing DPS and tankiness
In the Shapeshifting tree, early access and scaling were improved:
- Werebear → now available at level 1, buffs Grizzly but weakens Wolves
- Lycanthropy → now grants Attack Rating and Maximum Life
- Hunger → reworked (lvl 12), consumes corpses for Life Steal, Crit, and Movement Speed
In the Elemental tree, several underused skills were buffed:
- Arctic Blast → improved and moved to level 1
- Twister → now spawns additional projectiles based on soft points (up to 14)
Overall, PD2 improves Druid’s flexibility and consistency, enabling strong Summoner builds, viable Elemental casters, and smoother Shapeshifter progression, all with better scaling into endgame.
Necromancer Class
The Necromancer in Project Diablo 2 has received one of the most extensive reworks, especially in the Curses tree, greatly increasing build diversity. You can now effectively play Summoner, Poison/Bone caster, or hybrid Curse-based builds.
The biggest change is the overhaul of Curses:
- Multiple Curses can now be active at the same time
- New debuff types added (Attack Speed, Movement Speed, Defense reduction)
- Curse Mastery (new skill) → increases overall Curse effectiveness
In the Summoning tree, minions were rebalanced:
- Skeletons/Mages → reduced max count, but increased Damage, Splash (Skeletons), and Pierce (Mages)

Paladin Class
The Paladin in Project Diablo 2 remains one of the strongest support-oriented classes, but with major adjustments to Auras, Combat Skills, and utility, many more builds are now viable beyond traditional setups.
In the Aura system, several important changes were introduced:
- Resistance Auras (Fire/Cold/Lightning) → now also grant bonus elemental damage
- Offensive Auras like Holy Fire, Holy Freeze, Holy Shock, Sanctuary → increased tick rate and rebalanced damage
- Conviction → significantly nerfed to reduce over-scaling
In the Combat Skills tree, gameplay is smoother and more balanced:
- Zeal → reduced from 5 → 3 attacks, but increased damage per hit (removes animation lock issues)
- Joust (new skill, lvl 24) → mobility skill that lets you dash/teleport to enemies and gain movement speed
New utility and hybrid skills were also added:
- Holy Light → single-target heal
- Holy Nova → AoE spell that heals allies and damages enemies (with cooldown)
Overall, PD2 shifts Paladin toward a more balanced class with strong support Auras, viable caster builds (Holy skills), and improved melee gameplay, making multiple archetypes competitive in both solo and party play.
Sorceress Class
The Sorceress in Project Diablo 2 remains a top-tier caster but has been rebalanced to reduce over-reliance on mobility while improving overall build diversity. Changes affect all three trees: Fire, Cold, and Lightning, along with core utility skills.
One of the most impactful changes targets mobility:
- Teleport → now applies a 50% spell damage penalty for 1 second after use (limits spam for DPS)
In the Fire tree, new and improved skills increase AoE potential:
- Combustion (new skill, lvl 24) → creates a ring of fire projectiles around the caster
- Meteor → falls faster, higher burst damage, but shorter duration
In the Cold tree, crowd control and new mechanics were added:
- Ice Barrage (new skill, lvl 24) → fires multiple projectiles that chill enemies (scales up to 5)
- Cold skills retain strong Freeze/Slow utility
In the Lightning tree, utility and scaling were improved:
- Telekinesis → now provides damage bonuses and has added synergies
- Lightning retains high damage variance (min-max range)
Additional change:
- Warmth → now also grants flat Attack Rating, enabling hybrid builds
Overall, PD2 makes Sorceress less dependent on Teleport while enabling more viable builds across all elements, including new options like Combustion Fire, Ice Barrage Cold, and improved Lightning setups.
