Guide notes |
October 30, 2019 -Updated for Patch 3.8 November 1, 2019 -Added updated gameplay video |
Tornado Shot is the most popular Bow skill in Path of Exile. We have decided to make an entirely new variation of this powerful ranged build, which revolves around purely Physical Damage and Crimson Dance's multiple Bleed. It does not differ much in terms of playstyle and item choices compared to the Elemental conversion Tornado Shot builds, however, it has significantly less end-game potential and appears to be much more expensive.
On the other hand, this build offers decent Life Pool with solid Evasion Chance, and extra Dodge, making it quite reliable on higher Tier Maps. Though it shouldn't be treated as a tanky or HC viable build.
3.8 Update:
We have decided to refresh and update this guide because of the recent changes to Bleed DoT Passives. We can now add high Bleed Damage Multipliers which allows us to scale the damage further. It still, however, remains rather weak in that matter and will be capped at approximately 1.5 Mil Shaper DPS. This is more than enough to deal with any Boss in the game, but considering the expenses, there are better and more viable build options.
You can find our other Path of Exile builds right here The Best PoE Builds by Odealo
In terms of playstyle, this is a classic Ranged/Bow build. You are dealing very high Physical Damage over Time from a distance, and your Projectiles also apply multiple stacks of Bleed - each of Tornado Shots and Puncture Projectiles will have a 100% Chance to apply Bleeding, and with Crimson Dance Passive, we can apply 8 instances of Bleed DoT on each enemy. The biggest downside is the fact that there is not front-load damage, and farming will always feel slower than regular Tornado Shot builds. On the other hand, DoT builds give you more space for kiting and positioning while sustaining your typical DPS. This build utilizes two Bow Spells, whereas, Tornado Shot is used for general farming and pack clearing, while Puncture dishes out the highest possible Bleed Damage against Bosses.

PROS |
|
CONS |
|
Leveling as a Ranger is very easy. Since you are a Ranged Class, you can focus on your DPS, and fight from a distance, allowing you to survive most of the encounters with ease. There are multiple Bow skills that are good for the early levels. However, all perform more or less the same, and each of them should be replaced with Tornado Shot as soon as it is available for your level.
Suggested leveling Gem setups:
Puncture setup | |
Puncture - one of the first Attacks available in the game which has high added Physical Damage and is guaranteed to inflict Bleeding. It's the Skill you should initially use and keep it around against Bosses after you switch to Tornado Shot
Chance to Bleed Support - even though Puncture is guaranteed to inflict Bleed, this Gem still offers one of the highest DPS bonuses here
Lesser Multiple Projectiles Support - increases the number of Projectiles, allowing faster clearing
Mirage Archer Support - creates a spectral companion on your back that will use the Supported Attack with slightly reduced Attack Speed |
Tornado Shot setup | |
Tornado Shot - offers lower damage but much better clear speed making it the primary Attack for leveling and farming Maps
Greater Multiple Projectiles Support - one of the best Support Gems for Tornado Shot. Since all projectiles from Tornado Shot can hit the same target, it greatly increases single-target DPS
Vicious Projectiles Support - greatly increases your Projectile's Physical DPS
Chance to Bleed Support - gives you a high added Physical Damage and increases the Damage you inflict with Bleeding |
Utility Gems | |
Summon Lightning Golem - it's the recommended Golem for this build which increases your Attack and Cast Speed
Vulnerability - the best Curse for this build. It's also very useful for leveling against Bosses when you need to add some extra DPS. It has to be cast manually on lower levels
Herald of Purity - adds extra Physical Damage to your Attacks
Blink Arrow - your primary mobility skill for Bow Builds |

We recommend killing all bandits for the additional 2 Passive Points

Blink Arrow - your main mobility skill that can be used with Bows

Flesh and Stone - very good defensive Aura which will blind nearby enemies and reduce damage taken from enemies further away. You can also switch to Blood Stance for some extra damage instead
Precision - used at low level to slightly boost your Accuracy Rating and Crit. Chance. You may as well keep this Gem at level 1
Enlighten Support - reduces Mana Reservation cost of Supported Spells. Has to be level 2 or higher |

Vaal Grace - grants increased Chance to Dodge for a short duration. You will be only using the Vaal part of this Spell when needed

Summon Lightning Golem - grants increased Attack Speed. It will be summoned automatically |
|
While Tornado Shot can be fairly enjoyable on a very low budget and you could possibly use it a Starter Build, in general, it is a very expensive build when you want to do end-game content with it. Just the necessity of two different DPS setups significantly increases this build's price. Also, several mandatory Unique Items are listed below, and this build offers optimal DPS only when using expensive Fossil-Crafted Elder Bows.
We are also delighted to invite you to visit our Path of Exile marketplace where you can buy PoE Currency with real cash.
